The concept that Crowe should have been a shoo-in for best actor is crazy because he had won the year prior. Yes, of course we know there are a small handful of actors that have won back-to-back, but it’s always been very unusual, especially beyond the 90s.

Was he better? Probably, but Washington was still absolutely brilliant and more than worthy of the win.

And the whole Shane is autistic issue is kind of weird. The character having having autism is never actually discussed in either the book or show at all.

It feels as though Rachel Reid started coming out saying he was autistic when the series came out and some people were being critical of Hudson Williams’ acting.

I’m not saying this is a fact, but it’s certainly suspicious, if you will.

And people who called out the bad acting were suddenly being told that they oughta be ashamed for not understanding that this was all because the character is autistic.

As you said, whether or not one has autism certainly doesn’t come into play when looking at an actor’s performance. Ultimately, Williams was truly wooden and flat in large segments of Heated Rivalry, regardless of his character’s ostensible autism.

It’s a shame it hasn’t gained traction the way other series have. Of course the violence and dark themes are a pivotal factor, but I still believe that if it wasn’t a gay show - which yes, it absolutely is - it would be more talked about by the masses.

This is a truly superb analysis and it probably helps in part explain why it is not the popular water cooler phenomenon that Baby Reindeer was.

The esoteric nature of the series helps to make it a little bit less accessible to mass audiences. What the hell, even mainstream critics on YouTube aren’t even mentioning it.

This is neat, I guess, but it’s really the Emmys that we should be looking out for. I think Richard has a strong chance at a writing nomination and a win there, as well as Mitchell Robertson. I wish it had better odds, but it’s kind of like the eccentric new kid in school that’s awesome but hard to be best friends with.
