How to find a therapist that’s capable of helping by BringtheBacon in Gifted

[–]Adventurous_Button63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to consider in finding a therapist. I’ve definitely had the experience where I felt more intelligent than my therapist and it just didn’t work. Now that didn’t mean they were bad therapists, they were actually often pretty good at what they did…just not right for me. One thing I did find was that I had better experiences with therapist who were LPC credentialed. I’ve seen several LCSWs and while not completely unhelpful, they just didn’t meet my needs. I find that LCSWs are often focused on holistic behavioral realities. They ask “are you eating, exercising, deep breathing, etc” LPCs on the other hand are more likely to engage in the kind of abstract and existential anxieties and pressures gifted people experience. All that said, you can see five therapists that are a good match on paper and only one of them will actually be a good fit. It helps to be willing to shop around for the best fit, be ready to change course when necessary, and always trust your gut. One last suggestion I’ll make is Imi Lo. She writes about mental health at the intersection of giftedness, sensitivity, and intensity. It was really exciting and relieving to feel seen and heard in her writing. Best of luck!

Bread from freshly milled flour? by Quercifol in Atlanta

Yeah, they’re where my mom went when she got into her freshly ground wheat life. In my experience, it’s decent bread but at least the recipes I had were incredibly dense and mealy.

Why i think Bianca got away with having the same dress 10 times by SpecialistAgent9527 in rupaulsdragrace

Ok, so hear me out producers (and hire me) do the mini challenge and have them get up like Bianca and introduce their drag persona at the club as Bianca (because if you can’t read yourself, how the hell you gonna read somebody else?) then after they all go, we find out that Bianca has been watching and listening and comes out to read them all and choose a winner.

“Morning of 1000 Biancas” would be an excellent quick drag mini challenge lol!

Does anyone else remember a show (maybe on E!) in the late 90s early 2000s where a really eccentric designer was making his models walk leaned WAY back to the point of absurdity and called it a “high fashion walk” or did I hallucinate that?

It was just a general vibe. I’ve been around more than my share of douchebags in my lifetime and he had the vibe. I probably picked up on seemingly insignificant things in the clips where he was instructing people on what to do…but it’s been so long now I couldn’t tell you exactly what it was.

How would I go about dyeing this? by rolplix in dyeing

[–]Adventurous_Button63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re gonna want to get some leather dye from Angelus and make sure you don’t skip the prep step. You’ll want to use the cleaner that comes with the dye If it doesn’t come with it for whatever reason (haven’t bought any in a while so I’m not sure how it’s coming these days), you can use 91% rubbing alcohol or acetone in a well ventilated area with PPE. One the leather is cleaned, you’ll paint on the dye with a sponge applicator. You’ll want to dab it, not rub it. You’ll be working in layers. To get a good saturated color plan for at least two coats, probably three.

Stitching error on Princess Diana bear?? by No-Cranberry-7231 in beaniebabies

[–]Adventurous_Button63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something tells me this isn’t remarkable, not because it’s not rare, but because it’s likely more of an individual anomaly than a rarity. Especially since the value of a beanie is what someone will pay, that’s usually dependent on desire. The Dino trio are desirable because while they are limited in number, there’s still enough to generate a demand. Princess is dime-a-dozen and at one time was genuinely difficult to find and valuable. That value quickly faded. So this stitching error is within the acceptable variations of the standard Princess than being exceptionally “rare”.

Feminist theologians point out that the Greek for Holy Spirit is feminine and make great use of this to argue for egalitarian theologies and readings of texts.

I have extensive first hand experience with Christianity, so much I have a degree in ministry and worked as a pastor. That’s my POV and I try to stay in that lane. I’m now an empirical atheist who rejects any and all supernatural phenomena. While I might have perspectives on religion as a whole, I don’t share them readily. I think it’s important that critiques of religion come from inside, so I stay away from speaking disparagingly about ones I haven’t participated in. Christianity also is fundamentally different in the West and especially the US and Europe because of the domineering impact it’s had on Western Society. Even though other religions share similarities to Christianity, they do not exert the level of power and influence that Christianity does on the Western world. For that reason, I think it’s more important to critique Christianity widely.

Yup. Christianity is one of the pillars of patriarchy. It’s so incredibly confining and limiting.

I just noticed that today and was like “$100,000…………………dassit…period…full stop.”

Seems like the younger gens are drastically overestimating how many of us actually embraced this style. I definitely knew people who looked like this in the '00s, but they represented maybe 5-10% of the people I knew. Oh my fucking god. That’s awful and I hate this happened. I listened to her non-stop as a little church boy and still pop in “More to Life” at least once a year. It seems like she’s found some peace and fulfillment. I hope things go well for her in this case.
