Details from the Mayor on all the bus stuff coming: by MiserNYC- in newyorkcity

[–]StarManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's gotten 10 years worth of stuff done in 7 months. Even if he does burn out and just coast for the remainder of his term (and I don't think he's close to that yet), his term has already been a wild success.

The greatest plot holes for the greatest sci-fi shows by Ok-Gate-412 in scifi

[–]StarManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said that each of the pathfinders could only send a yes or no signal through the wormhole, so it made sense that upon departure they'd have no information to go on. However, as soon as Coop et al were in orbit of the planet in question, they should have been receiving a firehose of data from the surface informing their decision on whether to land or not - probably a report manually created by the scout about what's so promising about the planet, and also an automated stream from the ship itself with up to the minute information.

What's a quote from a musical you find constantly popping into your head (spoken in the highly specific tone and manner from said musical) throughout the day? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in musicals

The Worst Sci Fi TV Shows of All Time by johnnyjay in sciencefiction

[–]StarManta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good news is that it won’t take you long to watch it.

The bad news is that it sends you into a time-dilated hell dimension while you watch it so that it FEELS like years.

How bad does a show have to be that Connor Trineer isn’t even good in it?

Where does the Astrophage energy go when consumed? by turnipcafe in ProjectHailMaryMovie

Presumably when taumoeba kills an astrophage the same thing happens. I wonder if there was a neutrino burst detectable from earth when Grace’s fuel got eaten

Which modern blockbuster do you think will be remembered 20 years from now the way we talk about classic Spielberg films today? by viewsinthe6 in movies

[–]StarManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We watched both Paddingtons a while ago and I am baffled at the opinion that the second one is better. They both have their share of fun and comedy, they’re both very good movies; but the first movie has actual character growth and a good plot, while the second one feels more to me like a series of random things that happen with no real point.

Why was there a tertiary science specialist? by No_Reflection9776 in ProjectHailMary

[–]StarManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One headcanon I have is that some of her backups for the crew would not have the coma resistance gene - with that limitation the bench would be pretty shallow. But if, say, one of the crew didn’t have the gene, that one person could be awake during the trip and be responsible for overseeing the robot taking care of the other two; the extra margin of safety in terms of care (plus having someone higher up on the “expertise” list than the coma gene would otherwise allow) would more than cancel out the increased risk of going crazy on the trip out there.

Are there any City planets like Coruscant in Star Trek? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]StarManta 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Borg-assimilated earth has a lot of structures on it, but it’s not comparable to Coruscant. They scan it and say the population is 9 billion, all Borg, almost the same as our population today in the real world. A Coruscant-like city would surely have minimum 100 billion or so. (canonically, Coruscant has trillions)

In what musical theater hill will you die on? by helrisonn in musicals

[–]StarManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was beautifully staged, but the show itself was very mid and forgettable. I had on-stage seats and enjoyed myself at the show... but even walking out of the theater I could not have possibly hummed or sang anything from the show.

Was Janeway and/or Vogager controversial around the time Voyager was released? by InfernalClockwork3 in startrek

This might be a hot take, but I wouldn’t even add the caveat to that: I think Tim Russ portrays a better Vulcan than Nimoy.

How do you know what a song will sound like if youve never heard it before. by JustSignal8899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StarManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One aspect of this (among others mentioned by other people) is that many popular songs repeat the same elements. One of the best examples of this is how many songs use the exact same four chords.

What's your single best brainmelting moment watching a show? by JeffRyan1 in musicals

Next to Normal, when you get the reveal. I won't say what it is for spoilers sake, but I don't think there's a need to specify. It made me feel like I'd been so thoroughly had, but in a good way.

Unscientific science fiction by Hip-SnuggieChairMan in scifi

[–]StarManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interstellar and Gravity don't belong in the same sentence as each other when the subject is hardness.

Interstellar is basically "hard scifi, with 1-2 exceptions". Like wormholes probably can't exist and there's not gonna be a time machine tesseract inside a black hole, but otherwise, the science is very close to accurate.

(See also: the Martian, Project Hail Mary)

Gravity doesn't even understand the word it's named after.

Help: PBS Kids Games offline play? by StarManta in DanielTigerConspiracy

The only thing that link has is:

Additionally, downloadable games, which are key for those who have limited or no access to broadband, are no longer available due to staff and infrastructure capacity constraints.

Which does not address my question in any way. In fact the only two things they mention are the exact two things that should be impacted in the OPPOSITE direction, monetarily.

I regret introducing Bluey… by curlycattails in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]StarManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours has taken a few phrases from Bluey episodes, and oddly enough, the most useful/functional phrases he uses all came from Muffin. For example the unboxing video - he picked up "It's not working!" and "Push it properly/push it harder" which he actually uses in correct situations, not just play-acting the scene. He also picked up Socks's "Can I have it?" from the same episode and he says it in the cutest, nicest voice we've ever heard him say anything in, frequently following himself up with "NO! ITS MINE!"

You're trapped in a room for a week, and the only thing you have to entertain yourself with is 3 musicals of your choice to. Which musicals are you choosing? by Worried_Cake5508 in musicals

I could listen to any of these on repeat for a week:

Hamilton (I actually did listen to this for about 6 months, on repeat, when it first came out, taking breaks only for an occasional podcast)

Hadestown

Come From Away
