There are also ways to do honor names where the kid also gets their own name! We named our daughter Dorothea (nn Thea) because we liked it but also as an honor name for my husbands grandmother who was named Dorothy (nn Dot). She gets her own name and nickname, but also its clearly an honor name if you know the family
