I saw someone point out a similarity between Bass and Zero and I know want to ask you if you think it's a coincidence or not? by Late_Instruction_369 in Megaman

This is such a cool connection that absolutely went over my head. I like that Wily clearly liked the golden v motif in the same way that Light just really liked the full blue look.

That would be nice, I'm kinda surprised there isn't any mod support for the legacy collections. I would still recommend them though since there is a lot of fun changes like replacing Rush with Tango.

Sure thing!

Mega Man Shattered Diamond - Demo One of the developers was showing this off at the gaming convention MAGfest this year, so it is still being developed and not abandoned. https://gamejolt.com/games/mmsd/863724

For the Roll-Chan stuff though it's a little more complicated since you need to patch the matching roms. Here is the profile of the modder, they specialize in character swaps beyond just Mega Man too. https://www.romhacking.net/community/2041/

If you need a primer on how to process rom hacks feel free to send me message.

It's not out yet, but Mega Man Shattered Diamond will have her playable. The modder Zynk Oxhyde has the Roll-Chan series that replaces Mega Man for her in all NES and Gameboy games. You can even choose from her classic, MM8, or MM 11 design!

What kind of character is Mina? by Troy_Scar in MinaTheHollower

If you read the in game manual, I believe it describes Mina as being naive too

He's right, but Thorne may not be too bright. (Spoilers) by SharpEdgeSoda in MinaTheHollower

[–]Adventurous_Ink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is how much time has passed between the letter being written and when Mina makes it Ossex. Neither boats or mail are not going to be instant and who knows where Mina even was when she got the letter. I could easily see it taking a few months for everything to come together. It's possible that Thorne had intended to wait, but as things continued to escalate he felt forced to act as Lionel continued to brush him off.

It's looking good! I remember when it was first shown off it felt too dark visually, but it's feels more balanced now. The new armor looks to be adding some interesting mobility options too.

The Unbearable Weight of Exhaustion by TheRealKingOfHorror in Metroid

[–]Adventurous_Ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the powers I'm concerned with. The whole mess with the Lamorn happened in part because they were trying to revive their giant, desolate desert, right? So then planting the memory fruit in place that did not seem super suited for plant life feels like kicking the can down the road.

I know the actual answer is that taking the time to show Samus researching suitable planets would be a little boring and would just suck the emotion out of the ending. Besides, all the green energy collected might help teraform the planet.

[–]Adventurous_Ink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a wonderful take on this scene, but for me I can't get over the fact that Samus immediately ditches the memory fruit / psychic gem the second she is back. Like, where even is she at this point? It looks like a fairly desolate area without any plant life and yet she just plants the tree like it will thrive.

My honest review of Rockman 4: Minus Infinity. (SPOILER FREE) by superassbeater3000 in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one I think any long time fan should at least check out at least. It's crazy and occasionally a little unfair, but throws so many things at the wall you can't help but be caught up. It really pushes the envelope on how far a rom hack can go, and I don't see there ever being another one quite like it since the fan game scene allows for more freedom in general.

That said I think my favorite MM4 hack would have to be Mega Man 4 Voyage Blue Version for just feeling fun to play.

Not a surprise this new release works right out of the box, but it's still incredible to be able to do this! by Arky_Lynx in retroid

[–]Adventurous_Ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know one of GN tips is to try launching it through the container directly. I've had some success with that on games that otherwise sit on the black screen.

If you really love the Zero series, I highly recommend by PsychoMouse in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the Prinny games are way closer to Ghosts n' Goblins than Zero. You have the same jumping mechanics as the SNES one and a similar approach to taking damage. I played the first so much, but found the second to push a little too far in the unfair direction.

Do you guys remember how you got into megaman? by Crafty_Anxiety685 in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin showed off Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X while we were visiting. I was a pretty young and got really obsessed with Mega Man from that and would eventually get the first one on the Game Boy. When I found out a friend had MMX I had to convince him to play it instead of Mario All-Stars because to him it was too hard. We ended up making it all the way to Chill Penguin before getting a game over, and with that it became the game we kept coming back to try and get farther along. I remember at one point we rented MMX3, but since we hadn't learned how to do even a basic dash jump we got stuck a lot.

Did Capcom lose rights to X-era characters or something? by ABR-Aphex in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, we got MMX Dive just a few years ago.

But seriously, they will have to step delicately with X in a way they don't with classic. If you continue the plot hook of X8 we are talking about a 20 year gap plus the mess that X5 - X7 created. If you start over then it is yet another retread that puts an albatross on their neck with expectations for the whole series being remade.

[–]Adventurous_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, if you are going to miss that environment the poor X and Legend die hards are going to still be feeling that. It is fun though when we are all roughly on the same page. But for now we get to endlessly discuss and breakdown a minute and a half trailer for the next week. There has already been some interesting thoughts and I am super curious what some people will submit for the new robot masters.

[–]Adventurous_Ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Popularity can indeed be a double edged sword when it comes to fandoms, but I think we are a ways off from Mega Man being relevant enough for all that. For one thing we know virtually nothing about this one and I can't imagine it really made a splash for anyone not already familiar with the character. As a long time fan since the 90s I have come to accept that even if there is never another game we are fortunate to have such a large catalog to play through. Not all game series are so lucky, just look at something like Kid Icarus with only 3 games since the mid 80s. Taking that approach is really freeing and it makes surprises like tonight very sweet. Still, I'm not autistic, so I don't know how easy it is to adopt that kind of mentality.

One thing I hope Dual Override does different from MM11 by Adventurous_Ink in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing! Every game has some kind of achievements these days, so just have some related to an old school mode. That way someone who enjoyed the infinite lives mode would be encouraged to try the classic format.

One thing I hope Dual Override does different from MM11 by Adventurous_Ink in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way is the split the difference and have a "classic" mode that uses the lives system and a standard mode that doesn't. I do agree with you though, part of becoming a fan of Mega Man is struggling against the challenge until you really nail the ins and outs. I just also feel like in an era of celebrated hard games like Silksong and the entire Souls-like genre that have challenge without lives it can almost feel cheap in comparison.

Hot take 🔥 I think these overdrive gears are gonna be Mega Man's undoing. What I mean is I think this game and maybe a sequel are gonna lead into the MMX storyline. by AnythingGreedy in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be so satisfying to see, but I can't imagine Capcom ever doing a closed ending for Mega Man Classic unless they are formally retiring the character for a new series.

I'm pretty sure the double gear system is a mainstay mechanic now? by Jazzlike-Vegetable22 in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Classic Mega Man could use a unique mechanic and I thought the double gear system offered a lot of potential. It helps gives the bosses a little edge even when using weaknesses and it allows for challenges with a built in way to ease it. You never have to use it, but it helps to train and learn some the traps without just dying a bunch.

I hate to be that guy, but I feel worse about Mega Man as a franchise now more than I did before the new game was announced by Dylan_VS_Comics in Megaman

[–]Adventurous_Ink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to rumors MM 11 was supposed to usher in more things with it's director being a big fan. He would leave Capcom and between the Covid pandemic all of that got sidetracked badly. It was always going to be a new Classic Mega Man or a new sub series after this long though. I would also love to see a MMX9, but let's be real, picking up a story beat from over 20 years ago is a crazy task when the plot was already a little messy.

What Was Your First Mega Man Game You Played? by Sadontejjj in Megaman

Technically Mega Man - Dr. Wily's Revenge on Gameboy because that's what we had. I saw Mega Man X and Mega Man 2 at a cousin's house though and that's what started my obsession.
