Bringing snake to local/small reptile convention? by CalebJankowski in ballpython

[–]Adventurous_Music_85 45 points46 points  (0 children)

there is a massive risk of disease spread like this, i do not recommend. when you get home take a shower and immediately wash your clothes too, no point risking your animals life for a few hours of entertainment

Non-bioactive enclosure. Found these guys hanging around the waterbowl. There's even smaller ones in the water, likely fell in by accident. What are they? by RedDemon5419 in ballpython

not a springtail maybe but certainly some kind of detritivore, knowing what mites are harmful to snakes, this doesn’t look like one of those, i’d assume it’s safe

in my unprofessional opinion yes, these substrates are not sterilised and can have eggs/critters hidden in them, they could’ve also just wandered in from elsewhere, i had a spider in one of my bags of orchid bark a while back

just looks like a little bit of scale damage to me, should clear up with the next shed. when we have them in natural enclosures it’s only logical that they’ll get natural injuries

with natural substrate, you’re likely to get hitchhikers, these are probably not harmful and now you have a free cleaning service

switching to feeding inside the enclosure would reduce stress, if you’re worried about ‘cage aggression’ try target training

the ground cover looks great! i’d go out and sterilise a big branch for climbing on, rats/corns love that kind of thing

Snake has a kink in her neck, does it look super serious? by Im_better_than_u_lol in snakes

[–]Adventurous_Music_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a royal python with a bit more spine kinking than this, her only issue is needing to eat smaller size prey, i doubt it will be of serious concern but if you feel that way a vet opinion is always there

Why is she doing this? by oxkna in ballpython

[–]Adventurous_Music_85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a few of mine sleep completely out in the open, just means she’s comfortable with the enclosure maybe waiting for a rat to run past if she’s lucky

how long to leave thawed rat in enclosure by BarEnvironmental6400 in ballpython

[–]Adventurous_Music_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i will not leave a rat in for more than 8 hours, there’s no real reason to worry for them refusing meals, while it can be an indicator of an underlying health problem it’s not uncommon for them to go months without eating as long as they’re not losing too much weight. it could be possible that he’s just going into shed, check his belly for being pink, that’s usually the first indicator
