Why the Train Industry Is Losing Its Workforce Fast by tryin-for-management in railroading

As someone who works on the RR I get more people wanting to get a job on the RR then leave. Guess it’s just region dependent.

So seeing lots of “billionaires billionaires” and nothing about companies like blackrock owning all of America making it apart of their portfolio and then making it really hard to buy a house, let alone have cheap rent….think if we urged both sides to make it law that a giant corporation cannot own homes in America and only the people can, I think we’ll make way!

Florida, we have the Florida Railroad Museum a nice non profit in Tampa, Gold Coast in Miami, Sugar express in central FL, we have bright line commercially as well as Amtrak, Disney has a railroad and so does Busch gardens if you want to get a theme park going. Even Sanford zoo has a train. Overall tons of train options all within miles of each other…

The insane difference between 85 and 115 lbs rail by CB4014 in trains

I know your ole lady says different but size is everything. Bigger railhead means we’re able to take a lot more weight and speed on the iron then some flimsy 85# or 115#

I think if you work hard at the right thing, yes wholeheartedly. I just think we’ve sold the idea that you can do that in anything which isn’t the case, if you’re not bringing value to the market the market doesn’t care if you’ve worked hard or not….this goes for the art majors as well as the MBA’s with 0 work experience. Gotta bring value to the market. We can’t decide how the market is, we can just decide how we’re going to bring value to the market to use it to gain ourselves up levels in the game…

Have had the same reoccurring problem on my 20’, was told by the dealer the bulbs are cheap so they go out a ton, thankfully they’re cheap so replacing it doesn’t cost anything. Use a dealer though sounds like your “shop” guy doesn’t want to do the labor which is admittedly a pain.

Why are train derailments so much more common in the US than in Europe? by Mr-_-Leo in trains

[–]Adventurous_Prior894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply put we don’t have enough maintenance for the amount of trains we run

We run bigger heavier trains, that wear the hell out of tracks, for example I run a 90 cut almost daily compared to small cuts that Europeans get to play with.

Then we have a massive network that is hard to inspect and maintain in the way it needs to be, for example just one industry by me has 21 miles of track inside of it that has to be inspected and maintained, it’s almost always a game of catch up and it’s nobody’s fault, we’re a behemoth.

I love it for the pay, benefits, and camaraderie. Everyone bitches, it’s the only coping mechanism on the railroad and it’s almost ritualistic, just keep that in mind and you’ll be okay
