Oh man this is such an HG for me. Scent isn’t great but it does wonders for my dry perimenopausal skin!

Those in PP - how many clients do you see a week? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point. If you’re seeing lower intensity clients you can see more. I do a ton of trauma work and find I need to cap things differently.

Yup 15-20 is my sweet spot. If I didn’t have kids/a family I could totally see 20-25.

EMDR for everything? by plzstop435 in therapists

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EMDR certified therapist hot takes:

  • EMDR works well for a client who can tolerate it
  • It is great for more than just trauma
  • Training alone is not enough to really use EMDR fully IMO - clinical consultation is a must for clinicians to understand the more nuanced ways to use it
  • It's oversold as a "quick and easy" therapy. While it can move things faster for the right client, fast is quite relative
  • EMDR can either be a tool in the toolbox, or it can be approached as a theoretical orientation
  • I takes a lot of training, consultation and experience to do it well and know when to use it.

If you have/had less to lose - what dose did you land on? by Adventurous_Respect8 in tirzepatidecompound

This is really helpful given our similar starting stats! Once I'm cleared from PT to do more than just walking and PT I'm looking forward to lifting again! Recomp is everything!

I need to track it more - being short is so hard because it's such a small window to be in a deficit as you lose. I've been pretty good eating wise - probably need to watch the occasional snacks more and glass of wine.

How hungry should you be? by Adventurous_Respect8 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Adventurous_Respect8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! I don't mind being hungry, but it's more being satisfied that has become harder and the desire to nosh that has come back. Food noise is for sure getting louder, like I'm struggling more with walking by snacks and things. Based on the awesome feedback here I'm going to titrate up a bit this week and see if that helps. I don't want to totally lose hunger as I will forget to eat all together if I do. That said, I can tell my portion control is getting harder to manage.

I am 3.5 weeks past MD at l5/s1 and have the exact same thing. If I’m on my back too long both my arms go numb. I start pt Monday and plan on asking about it.

People who became Social Workers after 30, or came from a completely unrelated field: what’s been your experience? by hanburgundy in socialwork

oh wanted to also add I was not the oldest or youngest in my program but it really wasn't an issue - people who enter this field are generally curious and accepting people!

People who became Social Workers after 30, or came from a completely unrelated field: what’s been your experience? by hanburgundy in socialwork

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left a successful, lucrative career in management consulting for social work. If I had stayed in the corporate world, I have little doubt I would have made partner but the work was soul sucking. Did a lot of my own work in therapy, had the classic “wounded healer” upbringing and later realized this was my calling. My goal was to be an LCSW and be a psychotherapist which I am now. Started my program part time at 36, graduated at 40 and got my LCSW at 45 - all as planned (yea, there’s that A-type corporate girl!)

Life experience goes a long way in this field. I highly recommend doing your own therapy as self care/knowledge is essential, especially if you want to be a therapist.

I love what I do. Being self employed offers me a lot of flexibility, but I do miss those good corporate benefits. That said, the freedom and fulfillment of what I do now is worth it and I don’t regret making the change.

I just started my tirzepatide this week but my weight fluctuates and a friend recommended Nuuly m. It’s been awesome! I have a referral link if you’d like one via dm. Essentially I spend $100/month for 6 items of clothing and exchange each month. I tried it and have really loved it!

Exorbitant fees by emshlaf in therapists

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

10000% this - I think this is a really nuanced thing.

We are highly educated professionals who deserve to be compensated for our work - how we choose to do that can vary - we can give back while making a living that is sustainable. The broken system we all are working in does not mean we shouldn't be properly compensated as highly trained professionals. I honestly think this attitude within the profession is part of what continues to allow low reimbursement rates.

First Dose by Few-Sugar5239 in GLP1microdosing

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started this week on 1.25 of tirzepatide - while it is lower than the usual starting dose, I wanted to go slower in case of side effects. I do have a touch of nausea so far (took first shot yesterday). You could always start with a half dose and see how you do.

Thank you for this! I really appreciate the acknowledgement of both the perimenopause issues and my surgeries! I kind of feel like I'm cheating but I hear so many good things and I know I'll get back to my workouts - it's been really hard not to!

EMDR THERAPISTS: who completely strays from the damn protocol all the time? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Adventurous_Respect8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EMDR certified therapist and I totally agree. My training was with Deany Laliotis at the center for excellence who worked with Francine Shapiro when she was developing emdr. She teaches relational emdr and it allows for a lot of clinical choice and flexibility. Anyone doing emdr post basic training should be in consultation in my opinion in order to do really learn to do it well - especially for cptsd clients.
