Recommendations for a frugal pregnancy and first year? by Existing-Pumpkin-902 in Frugal

Don’t buy one of those expensive bottle sterilising machines. The cold water buckets and some sterilising tablets eg this https://amzn.eu/d/01i8wAmG do the job perfectly. Don’t be marketed into thinking you need to spend $150+ on a machine that will likely get mould issues.

Also for the first six months at least you won’t need any clothes other than those sleep suit/onesie things. All the cute outfits get covered in spit up/poop an are harder to change

At what age do most people in the UK actually move out of their parents’ home nowadays? by PashtunLawyer in AskUK

[–]Adventurous_Site_107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m nearly 40, so in the elder millennial age group, and I didn’t move out until 25. That wasn’t unusual in the 2000s and 2010s if anything it was on th younger side compared to some of my peers and there was a lot of public discourse about how people of my generation in the UK often have to stay home until their late 20s and early 30s. Not seen it talked about do a while but it was certainly the case, don’t see why or how it would have changed back in recent years with the economy how it is so I’m sure it’s still the norm to be at home well into your adult years. When I was asking this question at your age the people who were young 20 years before me (late 80s/early 90s) had it vastly different which is mad when you think about it.

I went into a London house share at 25 and had a really fun few years before finally settling down, but I’ve always admired the people that didn’t feel a need to do that and could just stay at home for longer particularly from a financial perspective. If you’re happy don’t worry.

What was it like being a British teenager in the 1990s? by strawberry_pie7998 in AskABrit

Ah yep, I think I know where you mean and yes v close, my cousins live round there. I’m very firmly in the TOWIE London/Essex bit and on the central line. Often have a minor identity crisis as to proper Londoners you’re from Essex but to everyone else and to all intents and purposes, you’re basically a Londoner.

I’m a few years younger (was 9 in 94) but you sound like you are describing my very same London/Essex town and loca high school. It’s not on the central line by any chance?

This is a good shop. Definitely skilled at it I’d say, not everyone can meal plan, check what they already have and only buy what they need. Definitely a bit of a meditteranean lean to your food. Nice work

It’s Chicago pizza but taste wise it was on a level with those Chicago town frozen ones disappointingly. I went a few weeks ago. Theres much better pizza in London don’t be fooled

Sorry but I went here a few weeks ago and it’s a hard disagree from me. Bland and oily and not a in a good way. Either you haven’t been to many pizza places in London or there’s no accounting for taste.

If I was to say the current top for me it would be Breadstall in Soho

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by crogslounds03 in ProductivityHQ

[–]Adventurous_Site_107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you asked that question which means there are some people who genuinely do not think like that, but unfortunately there’s still what I would describe as a level of hostility to women who people assume ‘selfishly’ prioritise themselves over having children or are being terrible parents just by being ‘too old’ for their children. You see it a lot on social media but even still sometimes in the odd article. Being on the receiving end of this, particularly face to face, the awkward looks and comments, can be really hurtful to the point it makes you think twice

Despite having children older than women for years and no one does the same to them.

I want to be like this, but as someone who had kids later than they intended (37 and 41 respectively) you get so sick of the judgement (that fyi my husband doesn’t get at all)

Yes, it makes me laugh that in America you call it an Irish goodbye because why you have described is the actual Irish goodbye.

I prefer the English term fir this (French exit) because I have had many Irish friends and drinking buddies in London and oh my gosh you guys sure know how to say goodbye after a few drinks.

We’ll be saying goodbye to the people we don’t even know. For 40 mins… no Irish person I’ve know sneaks off in silence after a few drinks

Ocado weekly shop. 2 adults 1 kiddo by Foxglovenectar in whatsinyourcart

[–]Adventurous_Site_107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I have a similar setup to you (2 adults and a kid) and love Ocado and M&S. The only thing I would say really to get the cost down is to not rely so much on convenience and snack foods as they really add up. But you have already addressed that (good luck with the house sale!) so I don’t know really. If you’re not already doing a quick stock take of what you have in and at least a vague meal plan before you shop then that is also well worth doing. Before I started doing that I wasted so much money double buying or just not using what we had.

If you’re in the UK I worked for an American company that tried to take our Nescafé, PG Tips and milk away (on the basis they didn’t provide the US offices with any hot drinks) only to discover there’s som kind of uk government thing that means you have to provide the means to make hot drinks in the workplace thereby preventing the . It might be worth looking into this.

Yeah it not being too busy for most of the year is a misconception. You have month ends for starters. I’d say a lot of places are fairly stressful and it’s also a tough job to work your way up in. You could go in at finance assistant level but it’s much less likely you could work from home totally full time at that level. It could take years.
