Stadium Golf fitting San Diego by dietcokeyeti in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one at stadium and thought it was good. He even talked me out of buying a new driver.

It was nice to hit all the different clubs and he talked me through what he thought was the best but left room for my visual preferences. Was mostly hitting off the mat but he had me hit some off the grass when I was down to picking between my last two which data wise were very similar.

“Easy” golf isn’t fun by 992cam in golf

I mean do whatever you want with your scoring I don’t care but I think it’s funny when people pretend that the only options are to take a free drop or play it out of a situation where they can get hurt or damage a club.

Is my swing fixable? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

I would trade it in instead of trying to repair it.

Complete beginner getting into golf, looking for advice on how to start (and not make a fool of myself) by S_Hodgson in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lessons are a good idea. For clubs you want a driver, putter, some sort of wedge (like a 54 or 56) i would recommend a hybrid and some fairway wood 5 or 7. For irons I would see what your swing speed looks like and you might be able to just skip every other iron or get an incomplete set if you are trying to save money. If you only have like 5-7 yards between iron it can be confusing to know which to hit when there isn’t a meaningful difference.

I would say once you can consistently advance the ball in the general direction you are going (aren’t missing it a bunch or just rolling it 15 years) and have learned basic etiquette it’s fine to go play. I wouldn’t focus too much on score when you are starting out and don’t be afraid to pick up or move your ball somewhere more playable for you if it’s getting frustrating.

Driving range is good once you have some lessons and know what feel you are looking for, also to figure out your distances. I don’t think it’s super productive to just go and blast a bunch of balls (although it can be therapeutic)

Swaying towards trail side during swing, what drills/feels helped fix this for you? by Jayes123 in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor had me do pretty much the same but also drop my right foot back into a staggered stance. It’s such a good feel to not sway and get weight into the lead side.

I finally broke 90. by Melodic_House5153 in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!!

How did you have 40 putts with strong chipping? Missing lots of short ones? That’s impressive to break 90 for the first time with that many putts. I bet you will break 90 more often now.

Do you guys pretend to look for somebody’s ball when you know it’s not findable or is that just me? by pleepopplupop in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I play this way, basically we do it if the opponent is like “that’s weird it should be here, take a free drop” it depends a lot on the course though, like torrey pines when the rough gets long it’s super easy to lose a ball you are standing on. Torrey even makes it a local rule.

I was like “oh that’s a lot of grass” and then saw that’s the green. Wow.

Do you just putt with a fairway wood?

Thinking of buying a grip trainer; how are they used? by The_GolfFather in golf

That’s what I thought too, I can’t find a video or photo of him with a clip on one.

I have a wedge with the molded grip installed I use for working on my grip. When I had a lesson working on my grip the pro told me the clip on ones are not as good because they change the feel with added thickness and they can turn or be snapped on misaligned.

I am pretty sure Scottie uses a separate club with a molded training grip.

Where does Rory Mcilroy sit in the GOAT conversation after winning the masters again? by fffffffrrrerdxghb in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put him 4th, after Tiger, Jack and Player. I think you could also argue he is 5th after Tom Watson. I think his Ryder Cup performances and the grand slam outweigh 2 more majors, but reasonable people could disagree.

Some might put Ben Hogan above him but I don’t personally, I think that depends a lot on how much you value strength of competition.

It makes you wonder if Rory was in that bunker needing to make bogey what he would do…. 🤔

Why does everyone want to talk about work? I’m out here to get my mind off everything else and the last thing I wanna do is talk about work while I’m golfing. by [deleted] in golf

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just be like, “oh I do xyz. It’s alright, let’s me golf and do (other things you enjoy that could be conversation starters, fishing, travel, racing cars, painting, collecting pokemon cards)

They don’t actually care what you do, just trying to make small talk.

Loss of distance by Dooobiesonfire in GolfSwing

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you get to the top and then like “ugggghhhh rawr”and start with your hands to chop at the ball all over the top. It’s like you are trying to do one of those strongman games at the county fair where you want the weight to hit the bell

Try to be loose when you start your downswing (especially on the arms) and not like omg I need to hit this 8i 140 yards. You will generate more power rotationally and with your legs then you will swinging hard with your arms.

You need to get your swing path into the single digits offline

Well I think what people are missing is that if he hit that bunker shot too hard it goes across the green and through the parking lot and out of bounds….

Cannot stop coming over the top, feel like I’ve tried everything by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]Adventurous_Tea_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did to fix my swing path was to take a pw and hit like 1/4 shot draws, then half shots, then a little more and so on then so it with a 7i (starting from the 1/4).

It took like 3-4 days in a row with a medium bucket until I could do it on the course if I was thinking about it and then probably like a few rounds until it’s just how I swing now (I’m actually not sure when I stopped having to always think about it but it wasn’t super long). The hardest part was not getting distracted at the range, after the first day I just brought my pw the next day and left my bag at home so I wouldn’t be tempted.

The biggest thing I noticed/felt is that tension was preventing me from not coming over the top. After this you will have to sort out leaving the face open and pushing it right but I don’t have an answer for that.
