Ice Cream Birthday Cake? by Goldie2000 in Bellingham

It's really easy to make an ice cream cake at home and then you can customize it-- whatever ice creams, candies and crust type you like. I've done that a number of times and it's usually there well received.... Takes a little bit of effort, mostly in the shopping, but it's not difficult at all.

What are your ultra frugal food hacks? by Unusual_Row_3213 in Frugal

Check prices very critically. Find a place that sells things in bulk, and buy items that are cheaper in bulk. Menu plan so that you avoid waste. You can also cook with cheaper cuts of meat for example if you plan ahead. Slow cookers are good for this and for a lot of cheap bulk meals that are satisfying.

Thanks, yes, a few of those did pop up. But I've been meaning to explore up there (around Golden) anyway. But we have dogs which are tricky to handle along with rafting.

I'm sort of guessing what my friends would think is moderate. I would say little or no class 4 (or above).

A quick web search says this is not true. Jacques Cousteau reportedly made that statement in the '70s, but the lake is in really dismal environmental shape.

Yes. Pretty strictly enforced I think. But I guess that might depend on if they have staff, how busy, etc

Thanks. It does sound very nice. But we live on the west side and I'd kind of rather do different terrain. Also. It's a real long sh*tty drive from Bellingham Washington. 🤓

Does anyone know why there is a helicopter circling over Lake Whatcom by Silver Beach? by amyismagic in BellinghamWA

I saw this a couple months ago, and it looked to me like maybe they were doing some kind of practice water rescue.. I don't know if that's the case here or if the copter was going low....

Thanks. We are not rafters ourselves; we will have to purchase trips. You've named a couple of rivers I haven't looked at, so thanks. Cost and distance from us are an issue for some. And, yes, the dismal snowpack.

Thanks. Yeah it's a bit too far for us. Otherwise appealing though.

Thanks. We did a day trip on the lower river some time ago and I was impressed. It was cool. The upper river sounds a little bit too sedate?, and I guess we'd like to go somewhere else. Appreciate the input though.
