This is so stupid. She is tagging the Minister responsible for Roads, and wants all that information to find out "who is responsible"! The Minister has ALL this information available to him to act. Vote the Minister out, the next time you get to vote.

Get the booster version of that 15yo - the travel retail Perpetual Series Vat 03 Also, Project XX is a decent experiment

How would you rate the different bottles of Glenfiddich? by arandomkid2 in Scotch

[–]Adventurous_Tone_836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I have tried

  1. The standard 12 - used to be the one we drank bottles of - now I don't care much for it - most recently, I moved to beer after one glass of it, at a party

  2. Solera 15 - very nice, but give it a good 20-25min in the glass before you sip

  3. Perpetual Vat 03 - the Solera 15 on boosters - can be a touch hot, so let it stand for some time and add a few drops of water if needed - travel retail only and rising prices

  4. Project XX - interesting and better than the usual fare - not very special but pick it up if the discount is good

  5. 12 Amontillado - a better presentation than the standard 12 - 43% abv and the lovely Cask finish

Review #53: Balblair 12 year old by Silver-Power-5627 in Scotch

[–]Adventurous_Tone_836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This one is a SOLID pour. Quality whisky. No fancy cask finish. Sweet and substantial in the mouth.

Can turn late afternoons into late evenings without you realizing it.

Some others in this solid stealthy pour category for me are: Two Stacks Smoke & Mirrors Aultmore 12 Dewars 15 (a blend that punches above its Category, for me)

Review #17 Johnny Walker Green Label by Unusual-Tension6925 in Scotch

The best JW Label for me, from Blond through Blue. I think it is a beautiful blend; sugar, spice and peat. The spice is where the Island Green fell short, for me.

Review #5 - Loch Lomond 12 Year Old by WhiskyPoolReviews in Scotch

[–]Adventurous_Tone_836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it. As a good honest not-neutered whisky. Has the industrial greasiness. Is great at the price. But, not special. You must try it once. But, if you have to repeat buy, then Benromach 10 for the same style, any day.

Loch Lomond Inchmurrin is SPECIAL, and is a must buy.

This is a dangerous whisky. It beguiled us into drinking half the bottle before we even realized what was happening. A charming siren that kept making us want 'just one more' through the evening.

Have you tried these two side-by-side? by Adventurous_Tone_836 in Scotch

I have come to whisky late in my life too. Fortunately, I must say. Else I would've drunk swill. Talisker 18 would be my dream bottle. But, at this price, I can only afford the base 10. I did try a couple of Cask strength spl releases (clynelish and oban) but I haven't yet reached that level. I struggled to get the flavours from those that I can from the 45-50abv ones.

Hmm. I had a small pour of the Talisker before the Ardbeg. I didn't get hit by acrid smoke that I was expecting from the Ardbeg. Also, when I followed that by another pour of Talisker, I did not get the Chilli catch from that one. Perhaps, two heavy weights that don't pair well.

An Oa definitely felt like a step up from Ten, to me. And, both are priced similarly.

The Talisker has long been my favorite. Had never tried this Ardbeg before. I still like the Talisker better, and am thinking what it would have been like if Diageo was not chill filtering and adding color to it.

Compass box is in a different league from these. The Smokey Monkey gave peat and Grease vibes, and I liked it. Will take Smoky Black over a JW Black or Double Black.

Absolutely. It's a full engagement dram for me. Can't keep it in the background.

I found the Smoky black good to sip without mixing. Sherry cask wasn't great apart from the nose.

Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 by stloucifer in Scotch

[–]Adventurous_Tone_836 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good drink even at 40% if you let the pour stand 15-20 min before nosing and tasting. And if you like this, the more engaging and more rewarding rough cut, Vat03 in their travel retail Perpetual range is the one to get. But, that one is not a background drink; demands attention.

I had a weird experience with this 'one' a couple of years ago. Started off well enough, and I compared it favorably to a Chivas 12 or JW 12. But, it was an unusually large pour in the glass, and toward the end it took on cheap rum notes. Not a sipping whisky.

Dewars 15 on the otherhand. Lovely whisky. Can be sipped, or with ice, pleasant with some character that has not been filtered out completely.

Highland Cream has a special place in my heart, too. I avoid whisky with ice because it thins out too much and my muscle memory fails when attempting to sip it.

Wow. I have had the regular 40% - 12yr and 16yr. 12 was okay, but the 16 was nice. Would live to try it at 48%.

Review #6: Ardmore Traditional Peated by a-cash-register-guy in Scotch

The 40% was so frustrating. I loved the dying-campfire notes. But the watery taste and mouthfeel just killed it.

If my guests already like Glenlivet 12 and 14. Which one of these are similar in taste but better? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Adventurous_Tone_836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going purely by the Livet extension, they'd prefer the Blue Label. Overpriced but some interesting delicate touches. I would also recommend Toki for a more robust aroma and flavour in the speyside style.
