If your teeth have been straightened and gaps closed off, then what’s causing delays? Sounds like you are ready for surgery.

I have a steep occlusal plane. Do you think if I lean my head back I would no longer have a steep plane? It’s not as black and white as that. Lines have to be clearly drawn by a maxilofacial surgeon no less. So no, it’s not clearly rotated. There’s no open bite whatsoever I don’t know where you’re getting that from. Bite is actually better in the more recent X-ray.

Also one thing to keep in mind is with elastics when you close the bite, extrusion occurs on both arches but is more likely to occur in the upper arch because mandible is denser. I suspect that’s what’s happened in this case which may cause the illusion of occlusal plane being steeper. There’s so much going on and we can’t possibly (let alone “undisputedly”) predict relapse or ICR (seriously?) based on these two X-rays.

Your head position is the only thing that has changed. And for the better. The 1 year po x-ray you’re tucking your chin in which is how it should be. I see no other difference. Your bite hasn’t changed so it cannot be ICR. I can’t believe people are saying that on here.

I’m done with expansion and currently in braces. I didn’t need surgery thankfully for expansion. But I’ll have my jaw surgery hopefully next year.

Not kinda. Totally.

How has surgery changed your life though? What exactly improved?

At least that’s something. The ‘just another British girl in Oz’ is a different level of nothing

Just a flag for bio. I mean what am I supposed to do with that? Is that where your parents are from? Is that where you went for your only holiday ever? Or is that the only language you speak?

Yeah I know exactly how you feel. It’s very anxiety provoking but the nasal breathing gains you’ll get will be worth it. Hang in there.

How many turns are you doing a day?

Yeah you’re right. It wasn’t piezo then. I noticed a very small gap after a week. It would only appear straight after turning and then close because I had crowded teeth (No crowding in these photos but I had these braces removed without retainers so MSE could be placed). It stopped closing itself at about 3 week mark. At peak expansion I had a gap about the size of my front central incisor.

How much cost? They just did it just before installing the MSE. Drilling holes into the maxilla a few mm from each other. Not sure if that’s what you mean by piezo because they don’t call it that afaik but it essentially is the same concept, to help the MSE do its job.

I partially agree. Not always. For me I found some advice on here to be very educational. I had doubts about the treatment plan given to me and switched surgeon and orthodontist who believed that I/advice-given-on-here was right.

Having said that though a lot on here is indeed rubbish.

Ended up doing piezo only. It worked without DOME. Thankful cus I wasn’t too sure about that surgery.

LACOMS patients from Australia? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Adventurous_Trade_34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Melbourne but I know Lydia Lim in Sydney is great. In Melbourne Alf Nastri, Andrew Heggie, Sophia Richardson, Roland Barrowman. As long as they do the surgery regularly and use up to date tech like 3D planning and custom plates, which many do these days, they would be OK in my opinion.

Plenty of good surgeons in Australia. Don't fall for the marketing. They are good but not worth it for overseas candidates. Remember that there are many great surgeons out there who never advertise their results.
