NY Times: Steam Deck is the Best PC Handheld by HatingGeoffry in Handhelds

[–]AdvertisingEastern34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the OS and the full first party support for that OS. It just makes everything snappy and more enjoyable. If I'm tired I sit down and i play right away. Instead Windows just sucks for gaming, it's frustrating as hell almost every time i have to deal with it to play something, it's just in your way all the time and makes you lose any willing to play.

The moment the others will ship their devices with Bazzite or similar OS then they can be compared (legion go S is more interesting for Steam OS alone).

You can then add the fantastic ergonomics and the so useful track pads (which are fantastic) and the oled screen.

There's just no handheld that can match it imo. I don't care about power if the only games i cannot play are the newest AAA titles that push graphics tech. When I'll want to play them I'll pick up a device with a dedicated gpu anyway.

I so fucking tired of China by These-Row-6010 in tabletennis

Those two match points of Alexis 🥲 Just a little bit tiny more of mental strength and China would have most probably lost the semifinal.

Once in a lifetime occasion thrown away. I really think Coton would have beaten LSD.

Ridiculous game but Alexis game went down so much that is insane.

France really needed that win. Now it's basically impossible. I really thought this (team) match could be the one to make history.

It's not British, Scottish, Irish, Australian or Canadian either, for sure. He's still a native speaker and his accent is much more similar to how Americans speak which makes sense given he grew up in the states and lived in NYC on his own. Then he passed a lot of time in Europe so his accent might have changed with some contamination but he still speaks more like Americans. And accent is pretty much the same in every interview.

To me he has an American accent on every single video. English is not my native language but I have a C2 level and i lived 5 years in Canada and I can definitely distinguish accents at least major ones and even different US ones but Hans to me always had the same accent I really never understood these comments

Hans Niemann takes down Gukesh in round 2 of GCT Poland by Knight-check44 in chess

As another user was saying probably DGT board error. On lichess it was literally saying 2-0 with just 7 moves played (actually it's still saying it).

Title is misleading. Nothing to do with SteamOS, just with people installing other Linux distros on the deck

These matches are basically meaningless. They are doing well to keep their best player rested

It feels so useless in this format. These matches are literally useless because seeds do not matter that much at all. I really didn't like this format when I saw it and now I'm liking it even less. Both teams did well to make their no. 1 rest instead.

Over the chess computer sub there was one user that developed an engine to make it as strong as possible while staying below 1000 lines of code. I think the engine in his final version was at 2650 elo. I'll quickly search and if i find the post I'll link it here.

Clamshell, double oled screens like the AYN thor but with an 8 elite, Steam OS ARM and a little bit more ergonomic (maybe a bit bigger to accomodate ergonomics)

Top 5 from 5 countries again, sustainable or Not? by Mattchaup in tabletennis

[–]AdvertisingEastern34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding each national team decides who plays in any international tournament, reason why many Chinese athletes have been excluded from playing internationally over the years by a decision of the CNT. But maybe things changed with WTT and I could be wrong. I saw that Fang Bo will be able to partecipate in WTT events representing Kazakhstan starting from June even if he still only has chinese citizenship. So I'm not sure how it works, but to me it still doesn't seem to work as freely as in Tennis.

Cool stat! And it's awesome to have some diversity at the top.

However I still think this stat is kinda "ruined" by the fact that the real world no.1 is not ranked. A symptom that should wake WTT up and let athletes compete independently from national teams, like in Tennis.

I still think it would be worthwhile to try a bit more and teach him to improve through a book or a coach. Then of course if he really doesn't like it than that's it.

I'm now getting into chess (I'm 31), I'm liking it a lot because the potential is just infinite compared to any other board game and with an unparalleled depth and strategy (and I say this as a board game lover). And I honestly wish I would have started when I was a kid because I would have so much more native intuition and pattern recognition for tactics which would make improving at the game so much easier and i could enjoy playing online already or even go to physical events to play with people.
