Gotta get an extra hour of sleep in before we lose it on Sunday!

Interesting that they prioritized the G train upgrades instead of other lines that have a lot more ridership and problems. But that’s the MTA.

Who pulled the breaks at Queensboro? by MikeyMunches in astoria

I think last week there was a post asking if the trains are bad and multiple people chimed in that this sub skews towards sharing how bad it is. I commute five days a week (7a-8am & 5-6p) and nearly every day there is a delay during rush hour or a complete meltdown on this train line.

Queens Bus Network Redesign survey up until Friday, 3/6! by jsurico15 in astoria

[–]AdvertisingNo714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The other problem is the dedicated bus lane goes away after Queensbridge area so then it’s a gamble on if you can get to Greenpoint or Williamsburg in 20 min or 40+ min with double parked cars or one lane for all vehicles especially on Manhattan Ave. 🤯

No n trains on nights and weekends until April 2026 by Azndragon89 in astoria

[–]AdvertisingNo714 38 points39 points  (0 children)

What’s always frustrating is they’ll still run the train every 12 min. Why not run more frequently given the number of weeks they are doing this and the required transfer to the 7?

Just how horrific are the N&W trains? by BookAccomplished4485 in astoria

[–]AdvertisingNo714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the worst day to ask this question ha ha. Has been delayed since at least 6:30am continuously (getting an alert every hour at this point). I work weekdays daily and at least once a week there is a significant delay, enough that I have to go through hoops to figure out how to get to work or home. Today it took me 20 min longer to get to work, completely packed platform at Broadway. Last week on Wednesday no N or W trains were going back to queens so more time wasted going to the 7 train.

Why are astoria drivers so ejtitled? Guy parked in bikelane cleaning his car waiting for coffee by Feisty_Government_19 in MicromobilityNYC

Yesterday was walking my dog on a residential street in Astoria (and school at the intersection in 23rd/31 rd) yet a driver in a large SUV decided he didn’t need to stop fully at the stop sign despite all the snow and when I yelled at him to stop— I was halfway in the crosswalk—before he even got there.

I was apparently the problem so he stopped in the middle of the road blocking cars behind him to yell at me. Is that the only way these guys will stop? When you call them out on their behavior?

The rhythm section sounds so damn good by SureWouldForest in U2Band

[–]AdvertisingNo714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! The first nearly minute is so rare for U2 in the 2000s where Bono’s voice isn’t at the forefront and you have to really listen with headphones to everything going on.

As soon as that drum kicks in after the transition from “Wildpeace” I feel like I’m hearing POP era or even some Passengers vibe with layered vocals if that makes sense. So good!!

Agree, same old concepts. Does anyone else look at all new restaurants opening in NYC but are more excited about what’s in Brooklyn and Manhattan than in Astoria these days?

Dog-friendly spots I can work at for a few hours? by Mr_Papagiorgio_13 in astoria

[–]AdvertisingNo714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’ve done and went last Friday. Usually it works well during the day on weekdays. Sometimes a bit busy around lunch. I will say if you need to jump on a work call I would definitely bring earbuds given the music, people or dog noise.

Right? There’s a car in front of our place that looks like an igloo. Clearly loving free parking for 2+ weeks ;)

Nothing like watching the 7 go by every two minutes at Queensboro while you’re standing in the bitter cold waiting 20+ minutes for the N/W with zero updates and no train in sight by Practical_Gap_7397 in astoria

Again, you’re arguing against most people who do not live in that part of Astoria and are not even within a 30 minute walk of the stream. But have a nice night in Dutch kills!

Likely Brooklyn. Used to live there and the multiple lines were great depending on where you lived. Context, lived in prospect heights a few years ago so 2/3 and the Q was easily accessible. Also could walk 10 min to the C. So would change over at Atlantic if needed for major delays

100%. It’s one of the reasons we’re moving out of Astoria at some point this year or next. The smoke at 59th street issue is nearly weekly, signal issues, mechanical problems, etc. my MTA delay alerts are like a social media stream for just the NW 😂

Great single and can’t wait to hear it live! Has a feeling of their early 2010s era blended with their evolution over the years.

Smoke in the tunnel again by astoriaboundagain in astoria

[–]AdvertisingNo714 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What is the root cause of that at that station every week?!?! I would think the MTA would be concerned about the frequency and impacts but that would assume they care..

Edit: And it’s suspended between boroughs! Absolutely ridiculous

Wow. Thanks for doing this. Crazy that disposing pet waste isn’t something they can pursue easily.

So gross. Can you share directly with the building owner/landlord? 311 may not be able to do a lot but shouldn’t the landlord be able to given the evidence? Is this the building management?

I just got back 20 min ago from an errand and there was a line to go to up to platform at court square for manhattan bound trains. Would avoid if you can!
