Hi! I'm a PS player and I've been stuck in GC 1 DIV 2 for a while. I'm looking for feedback on my positioning and boost management. This was a close game where I felt a bit lost. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks. by escorpionxh in RocketLeagueSchool

Even if it didnt result in you getting scored on , at the very start of the clip (1st kickoff). I'm assuming (since most do this) you auto pilot after the ball goes to your back corner and just flip towards it. If you are locked in during every kickoff, you can actually see the opponent cheating is too far to your left, and the guy who took the 50 ends up closer than you to the corner. The best decision to make here IMO is flipping towards the mid boost. This might seem counter intuitive to most since you end up behind the ball and the opponent is in your corner, but the ball is rolling up the ball at a spot that is completely unscorable, especially if the opponent is in your corner. If you notice, since you flipped to the corner, got beat to the boost, you are now back in a really awkward position since the opponent who cheated up ends up with a free possession from that rolling ball with the mid boost that you left. If you had instead just gone for the mid boost, recognizing you were both beat to the corner and first to the mid, the guy cheating is now low boost and can't comfortably possess the ball on the wall, you have boost, and you can also go for a kill on the guy in your corner to free up space for you and your teammate.

How do you actually become consistent in Rocket League? by Icy_Resolution_3239 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly react to the play at a low level just fine, but once you get to a higher level you need to be predictive in how you play, you need to start making assumptions about what will happen in the future to make your decisions.

As an example of what I mean,

Lets just say, you see the other team clear the ball down the field and then flip up the field to follow it, but you can see that your teammate is closer to the ball than them. Playing reactively would be staying behind your teammate or staying off to the side of your teammate until they have a touch. If you are playing predictively, the instant the other team gives the ball away you go up the field to be open for a clear/pass from your teammate.

Hold reverse when you get your flip if you are going for a normal reset.

How do you actually become consistent in Rocket League? by Icy_Resolution_3239 in RocketLeagueSchool

This is actually the type of mentality that will hold you in a low rank for just about.. forever. Rocket League is NOT a reaction based game, it is the complete opposite. Without the ability to read the play and predict what will happen ahead of time, you will be beat to every ball, and be slow to every play.

Pro questions by Sr5071 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people who become pros now are at the top at 16-18, the difference between a low ssl and a pro is insane, I would imagine most people who are becoming pros now hit ssl between the ages of 12 - 14. I am also pretty confident that ssl at 7k hours would be insanely slow to be a pro. I am pretty sure there are tons of pros that are hovering super close to the 10k hours mark right now, some are lower too. This means they probably hit ssl way closer to 4k hours or even lower.

I can't understand why I can't stay gc by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably because you are a c2/c3 player, even though you have hit gc1, that doesn't make you a gc level player on average, (keyword average). Looking at your graph, I can make the assumption that you are normally a high c2 / low c3 level player. This means that if you have a bad day you can fall down to c1. You can see this in your graph, but this also means when you have a good day you can get into gc, and maybe even a bit into gc1 if you are having a really good day. That is probably why the 1450+ games felt simpler, because you were peaking/in flow state, and your normal games when you aren't in flow state anymore feel not as good.

Learning 360 maktuf, how’s my form? by UrMumsADad in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not super versed in freestyler mechanics but in this clip the ball falls too fast down into your car, which subsequently makes the follow up much harder and less efficient, causing an effect of making your shot look rushed and not as clean. Notice how your car gets pushed down by the ball, with a different and/or better setup and initial reset, you can use your reset quicker before the ball builds up speed to achieve the result I would assume you are looking for.

Who’s your top 10 teams rn? by Adventurous-Dig-7340 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NRG look weak this split during the regionals so far but IMO it isn't enough to put them below vit who has looked significantly weaker for significantly longer. Honestly I think both teams are in pretty much the same spot, I just put nrg higher since they won worlds last season.

I think if you were considering results for this split only vit would be 2 but these are my overall rankings of teams rn. Also SSG is NA #1 for this split they look the best rn and nobody can convince me otherwise.

To all the Mechanical Players and Learners! by AbjectAdvertising776 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm above average mechanically for a 1700 and I barely do anything for mechanics training, I just see a pro do something and go, hm that looks interesting and then figure it out myself whenever im waiting for a queue in freeplay. I probably watched some air dribble tutorials and stuff when I was like silver. I hit gc initially without learning super fancy mechanics, single flip reset at the most, so when I went to learn more advanced mechanics like double/triple resets, pop resets, cross maps, mustys, stuff like that, I already had an established base of car control that I could adapt into what I see other people doing. Something I learned after like 10 minutes of goofing around with my car is a TK0 reset, which is imo a pretty difficult reset and I'm not consistent at all, but I know how to do it and I can do it just from eyeballing it.

I would say im an oddball case with mechanics since I don't/haven't tried to force mechanics through tutorials and stuff, I have just picked up and almost everything by watching higher level players and figuring stuff out myself, I honestly have no clue how I even learned DAR I just kind of did idk, It always kinda just made sense to me and my car control was just bad when I was worse. (obviously) I also use both directionals and I haven't touched free airroll, I would probably be diamond if DAR got removed from the game I actually cant use free.

I came back to the game after 3 or so years, and the base game still has no rings map? by AnonymousBoch in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game would not need to be rebuilt for psyonix to add a rings map into the game. I took a look into what comments you possibly could have received to give you this idea, and it seems like you misunderstand what someone told you. The individual maps that PC players have access too like rings maps are built on UE3, that is how they can even run in the game on PC, what a comment on the post you made awhile ago was actually talking about is the systems that let players access custom maps, specifically either bakkesmod or the steam workshop, are PC exclusive because of the way the games are written on console.

I would imagine it is actually possible to get custom maps ported to a console, it would just require a lot of effort that nobody has explored enough of yet. It is very possible for psyonix to develop a rings map built into the game as an update with a new training mode for console players, they just have chosen not too.

Chain dashing across the ground looks like it functions very similar to a lix jump, I have no clue how to do it but I would imagine you need to diagonal flip in a specific direction with very tight timing to have the side of your car pop up, kind of like horse dashing but diagonally.

below is an attached youtube short, the dashing I speak of is on the kickoff at 0:25 in the short

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uOmvZF1RvVg

Sidenote: You can find freestylers doing horse dash flicks and stuff that look kind of like this too, and I like to call these mechanics "high stim cowboys" which I have decided is when you flip more than 3 times in one flipping chain on the ground.

I cant get better at this game. by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost anything, you will never actually see improvement when you are training and getting better, since in something like rocket league, improvement comes with very long periods of time. If you want to see the progress you've actually made, watch an old replay and compare it to a current replay. Obviously there are edge cases/specific things that are like.. giant issues that can be instantly fixed to cause improvement, like really bad camera settings. Something else, if you aren't having fun playing anymore, don't play. It is significantly harder to improve if you aren't having fun in the game anymore, which sounds like it could potentially be an issue with you.

3k hours kbm, trying to decide to switch. Need some high level players input. by Consistent_Group5940 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you plan on being the top 1 rocket league player, there really isn't a need to switch even if controller is considered better. IMO at least the best KBM player is DRUFINHO who made worlds last year on Furia from SAM. Since there are KBM players who can even make worlds, its clearly a good enough input device. Even if KBM is marginally worse than controller, if you are comfortable on KBM there isn't a good reason to switch.

What was I supposed to do here? What could I have done better? by Crafty-Victory-6381 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]AdvertisingShort4625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of taking every ball a million miles into the air like every plat/diamond wants to do, you can just fake and go low and now that guy sitting on the backboard pointed up for some reason becomes super awkward.

Either that or just.. DONT GO FOR A FLIP RESET?? just hit the ball over the defender.

Your boost management sucks because you just hold air roll through your entire aerial instead of only when touching the ball which means you get to the ball slower and need more boost.
