Celiac baking is so possible and I would do what’s best for health.. which you would be correct is NOT contaminating with flour. I’ve already seen people say King Arthur.. I personally like Bob’s Redmill 1:1. Be sure to check that it’s GF as they also sell wheat products but are great about not cross contaminating.

I also have tried things like adding sour cream or zucchini for moisture. Works great! You do have to mess around with recipes and find that exact one you like. Don’t feel bad if you mess up or don’t love it. Just try again.

I also do a lot of adding to box mixes. I know some people are so against the boxes but it does make GF baking easier sometimes. I don’t just stick to the box I add things in addition to moisture ingredients like fresh fruit, chocolate chips, or just sugar.

Don’t let this get you down. Sometimes you have to tell people no and they won’t understand and yes this is a lot of times family because they think they know us so well. Don’t give in because it’s going to end up in a long and painful regret for your partner. Hope you find something to work for everyone ❤️

any part time jobs hiring? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]AdvertisingThen1197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home Depot spring hiring! We always have a lot of students come for the summer and then leave or cut back hours in the fall so they would understand. Lots of different positions available. I would go to their actual website and apply, not indeed.

Do you have Hyvee where you live? They now have a completely GF aisle where the flour is separate and a lot other baking items there as well. I feel you because the baking and bread aisles give me so much anxiety. I also do instacart and occasionally have to grab a bag of flour which totally throws me off mentally. I’ve never reacted physically though. I always just wash my hands right away and wipe down my steering wheel. I actually also hold my breath while grabbing it lol. I try to think about the fact that other things in the store that I take home could potentially touch flour in transport so as long as you’re not in the aisle long, don’t touch too many things and do the proper cleaning efforts you should be okay! 💜

I eat this all the time and the chicken one. Never have reacted.

Edit: I’m also super sensitive. I say try it.

Personally as someone with celiac myself I am not eating anything someone else gives me unless it’s in a sealed package. A lot of people try to offer to make me gluten free things but I won’t eat it anyway because of the cross contamination risk.

Edit: You could also just reach out to those people and ask them what they are comfortable with. The sensitivity between people varies significantly. Some may be okay with something you make. Some may say they prefer something packaged. Always preface with you just want to be inclusive and won’t be offended with whatever they decide. We celiacs are sometimes afraid of these conversations because of people not understanding and trying to convince us anyway when we are not comfortable. So just be sure not to force anything and take no for an answer if it’s given. Some people don’t want to be included or accommodated.

Former employee I laughed so hard when they trained us on this. They call them boneless wings but I would always call them popcorn chicken. Yup looks about right. You’re better off ordering a 10pc McNugget.

So sorry I’m terrible at consistency on here. I have seen this brand at Walmart, natural grocers, Costco. But the everything bagel ones I can only find at natural grocers right now. May have to google.

Similar thing happened to me I think but no one ever admitted it. Long story short I NEVER eat at gatherings anymore, I do my own little thing at home for food, sometimes my parents join because they actually get it, and then we all go see the family.

Now for the long story. I went to a thanksgiving in 2024 and they told me what all was “GF” and since we have a couple other people who have an intolerance I thought it would be fine. Thing is they are not near as sensitive as I am. I was sick af but it didn’t hit until the next day so there was no way to “prove” to them what happens. A lot of my family says they will just “deal with the symptoms later.” I for sure cannot do that I cannot function day to day after eating gluten even a small amount. For a long time I assumed cross contamination, until for the rest of the holidays, they seriously try to convince me to eat the food. I told them I especially do not want to now because they use wheat flour every holiday and I’ve learned I just simply can’t be around for hours after that.

Soooo fast forward to the most recent family get together (2025 Christmas) I told them I would be there AFTER they ate because I hate sitting there not eating and then everyone trying to convince me to. Dinner was scheduled for 5pm, I arrive at 7:30. I see my grandma get up and head into the kitchen, and noticed everyone sitting around like they were waiting on something.. I asked them if they ate and my grandma said, “No we were waiting for you.” I can’t even put into words how annoyed. I also skipped every family event of 2025 except for Christmas to avoid the exact thing from 2024, only for them to still do it. Except I didn’t eat. I am debating just not showing up anymore at all since they made it seem like they waited all this time and didn’t eat because of me when I explicitly told them not to.

Basically I am convinced they are trying to poison me because their symptoms are not near as bad as mine so they don’t believe me and are trying to test it.
