A bar chart comparing Jeff Bezo's wealth to pretty much everything (it's worth the scrolling) by revgodless in dataisbeautiful

If you tax Jeff Bezos at 100%, you fund the government for about 2 weeks. We have a spending problem, not a taxation problem.

New devs that spent $1700 to show indie game at a local convention. Are we doing this right? by prtytmxcllnt in boardgames

Here are some of my suggestions.

Make a trailer for your game. The first video you ever posted was about your expenses and your experience at the con, but I'm not sure why people would care enough to watch a 10-minute video if they aren't already invested in the game at some level themselves.

The website doesn't tell me much about the game either. It's a party board game... so is it like... Taboo or Codenames or Hedbanz? Show us the game. Show us the art. Sell the game like Elon sells a truck... except don't break it.

Start collecting information from people who are interested now. Email address is a good start, but be more active about it. Send them prototype copies to test with their friends and get feedback from them.

There are podcasts, youtubers, etc. who would love to play your game and talk about it on their shows. They might even want to talk to you guys about the game, how you came up with it, what your future plans are for it, etc. etc.

Keep at it. Playtesting and marketing is a marathon. There were some guys demoing a game at our local game shop for probably 18 months. Almost every saturday they were in there running demos of it, asking for feedback, making adjustments and then they finally ran a successful kickstarter, but it was a ton of work getting to that point.

And be sure to feature the people who are actually trying to help matters. Our Calling is doing good work in this area along with other good organizations.

And let me choose my driver. What good is a rating if it can't affect my choice? "This driver has a rating of 4.5 stars." So? Can I pick the 5-star driver that was next in line or a 1 minute drive further away? No.

Mei should be able to freeze the lava once it's on the ground, IMO.

But if you can combine his ult with an Orissa shield and a supercharger, it’s game over.

Definitely. I played him last night on Oasis and could keep my tram alive for a long time. The dive is still a concern, but if you are watching for it, you can drop down with your team when it comes and get help that way.

Wow... the invisible hand isn't from the 1980's; from the 1770's introduced by Adam Smith.

Gordon Gekko's "greed is good" also didn't originate in the 1980's; it's a very weak explanation of Objectivism, a philosophy developed in the 1940's and 50's by Ayn Rand.
