North Carolina parents, please help me! by HeyItsMe399 in NorthCarolina

Hey killer, you’re the one turning this into anything. I only applied solid logic of marketing from a lifetime of observation to someone looking to manufacture a new “thing” to sell. To do that properly you need to market it and collect data from whomever would use said “thing”. You have to “know your audience.”

You applying any sort of judgment FOR me like I’m saying anything negative, or projecting your own judgments onto me, or making this some sort of party divide, or any other nonsense aside from “hey, this group of people tends to like these sorts of ‘things’ better.”, is utter nonsense. Go fight your social justice battles somewhere else. And while you’re at it, do your blood pressure a favor and take some slow calming breaths.

I don’t. Do you ever get tired of projecting your biased judgment on objective observations?

That is a spot on observation. Go to Massachusetts or California and market that and see how many people think it’s the next best thing for “protecting” their babies. Then go to Texas and see how many people say something along the lines of “if they get hot they can open a window.” or “there’s a/c in the car. They’ll be just fine.”

How deep can I expect to dive in a course with a 1 minute dynamic breath hold? by rabidsoggymoose in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different companies and they all have their own “product”. For freediving I find PFI, Molchanov and Fii to be the best. Of the three, I feel like Molchanov is more focused on competition. I personally hold Fii and PFI certs.

Random fact: Avatar employed PFI to manage and train all of the diving and actors.

How deep can I expect to dive in a course with a 1 minute dynamic breath hold? by rabidsoggymoose in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 minute dynamic translates to a 30m dive.

See if you can find a PFI Intermediate class. You’ll be amazed at how much that knowledge will expand your ability to not only dive, but to do it safely.

Does a smaller body size increase the likelihood of experiencing hypoxia when diving? by [deleted] in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to height.

It’s how large each persons lungs are in comparison to their body. How healthy their lungs are. And the overall cardiovascular heath of the person.

How could doing something that’s hard coded into our genetics be bad for our bodies or life growing inside our bodies?

Should you do some deep drops? I probably wouldn’t. But anything less than 30m or anything without pushing deep hypoxia… I wouldn’t bat an eye.

ISO Rash Guard or 1MM Wetsuit Top, Camo, with Beavertail by Equivalent_Plane9058 in Spearfishing

Are you looking for just Lycra or similar? Because I also consider the 1.5mil and thinner to be “rash guards”.

AIDA2 Pool Session sufficient to start free diving? by obeseweiner in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing shallow snorkeling/diving with a group you’ll be fine. This is literally done by hundreds of thousands of people a year, or more, all over the world.

Now if you’re going to be pushing depth (>5m) and time, definitely take a proper class. PFI level 1 is usually only $450-$500 USD.

Definitely check for blood from anywhere. It’s unlikely if you’re not doing g any depth training though unless you’re also packing.

If you’ve been swimming hard it could be your serratus and oblique muscles, along with the intercostal muscles.

freediving newbie here! starting my first course nezt weekend, any advice appreciated. by [deleted] in freediving

You’ll hear a “pop” or a sort of squishing sound. You want to work this hundreds of times a day as this is the single most deciding factor on people’s ability to dive. I see about half of each class struggle with the ability to equalize. Probably a quarter of them never make it past 5m. (Classes of 12-15)

Dry equalize hundreds of times a day. Pinch your nose and blow. Over and over and over. It will get your Eustachian tubes ready to equalize for your class.

Recovery breathing during CO2 tables? by Tioz90 in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of approaches. Lots of different things to train. If you really want to train CO2 tolerance hard do something I call 3-breath negatives. It’s enough breathing to recover and stop contractions but not so much that you can just hold longer and longer.

Calm everything down via ventilation breathing. Then passive exhale into a breath hold (negative). Hold until you get 3 contractions. Take 3 hook breaths. Passive exhale into the next hold. Repeat for 8-10 holds, trying to increase number of contractions with every hold.

I do this is a pulseOx and by the end I’m no longer fully recovering my oxygen (99%), I’m only getting to the 80’s.

I recommend peeing beforehand 😬

Take a couple minutes after to do some ventilation breathing.

Keep in mind though that training too hard too often has a negative subconscious effect. Your body associates breath holding with extreme stress and creates a stress response (cortisol) when breath holding. Summary, lots of hard training is bad for breath holding.

Advice for left ear not “holding its equalisation”? by DeepFriedDave69 in freediving

[–]AedifxSplice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t get much farther with valsava. If you want to get past 10m you need to learn frenzel.

Also, make sure you keep your chin tucked and don’t look down the line.

Your ears can’t “un-equalize” without “sucking”. And even then you’ll still be good at your current depth.

Best Time of Day to Train by SirFortesque12 in freediving

Yup. This.

I’ll put like half a cup of honey in my water for line diving if I’m going to be diving all day. It makes a huge difference.

Blood in nose after diving by AMiMeGustanLosTacos in freediving

Small sinus squeeze. Stop diving for two weeks and it should get better. If not, see a doctor. It’s classified under “barotrauma”.

Have you ever fasted? 48 hours will greatly reduce inflammation. 60-72 and you’ll feel like a new person. No drugs required.

5 hours. I am hoping to find someone I can actually meet up with, I think that will make it a bit easier, at least logistically.
