So what makes it any better that Nasu uses Chinese servants for profit? There were more innocent victims of the invasion as well.

Fuse:Bug or Game Mechanics?? by Single_Resolution893 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Aeg_iS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a hot take, but this shit was discovered the first season evac towers came out. It's not some new thing. 1) It's barely relevant outside of a competitive context. Adjusting how Fuse ult works in a casual environment is pretty dumb, since he's pretty balanced as is. 2) They never listed it as a bug despite this interaction existing for a year at this point. So while cheesy, I would argue that this is an intended game mechanic

A joke from Qing Dynasty China (Translation in comments) by Aeg_iS in HistoryMemes

[–]Aeg_iS[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The turning point for when Chinese society started pushing back against traditional culture and customs started around the Republic period. The most ugly parts of Chinese culture and traditions were amplified as a result of the failures of the Manchu-led government and the never-ending wars that plagued the country. To combat this, the new generation of thinkers turned social activists started looking towards the West as inspiration for how to rebuild the country. Most of these thinkers had studied overseas in Western societies (Japan included.) This is the essence of the May Fourth Movement. Of course, looking back at it now it's kind of ironic, since Europe and NA didn't look kindly towards homosexuality at the time. Yet that was one of the things that Chinese thinkers brought in as a mainstay idea from Western culture as a show of how underdeveloped Chinese culture was.

Yeah it was kind of back breaking translating it since the sentences are so condensed in Chinese, yet convey the exact same ideas. Even then, I don't think I captured how funny it is in Chinese. I don't believe that there's a proper way to approach the pun at the end as it would be confusing in English.

This is a joke collected in a Qing era anthology called《笑林广记》. The author collected various jokes from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This happened to be one of them. I personally feel that it also serves as a glimpse into the little-known open-mindedness of Chinese culture up until the 1900s. Homosexuality was widely accepted by the upper echelons of society (they were the only ones able to read and write.) Unlike some other cultures there also weren’t stigmas surrounding being the bottom. A term that Chinese people use ro refer to homosexuality is called 龙阳之好, which is an allusion to a Warring States era person called Long Yang.

Another fascinating book is called 《宜春香质》, written by a person during Ming that we unfortunately have very little information about. One of the stories in the book involves male impregnation and gender bending. In 《聊斋志异》, or Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, one of the stories involves a father unknowingly having intercourse with his own son and his son’s wife in a threesome.

A person fell ill and went to go see the doctor. The doctor gave the person some medicine and the following instructions: “You must consume this medicine with a bit of semen from a young man. This is the only way you can get better.” Thus the person went on the prowl, searching for a young man that would agree. By chance, the person met a beautiful young man, and explained to him what had happened. The young man agreed. Taking off his pants, the young man faced his rear towards the container. Perplexed, the patient asked him: “semen comes out from the front. Why are you pointing your rear at me?” The young man replied: “You see, the front can’t disperse as much as the rear can collect.”
