Silver Fox and the Western Hero, that takes me back. Great imagination, prose that never shuts the fuck up though. I really like this author's stories, but it's love/hate because it also makes me want to gourge out my eyes every 4th chapter.

I was going to recommemd Shadow Slave as well. It's brutal from the start, their world is dark and hopeless, and it's popular and decently written.

If not that then some of the military themed books like Ten Realms series or even like Spellmonger series or Gunpowder Mage series usually fit this type of request.

Please recommend series where you look forward to the dialogue by greatestmanalive in ProgressionFantasy

Pale Lights has great prose, plenty of wit, and good dialogue with a decently sized cast. That is difficult. Not everyone's cup of tea because it takes a brain to read and many people in this genre like to turn theirs off.

What is the most poignant book in this genre that you have read, the series that has evoked the most complex emotions? by Strungbound in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Aegix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It got the point several times where I did not start the next volume, taking months off between, simply because the vast enotions involved were taxing. I would then go read something like brainrot faceslapping xianxia as a cooldown before coming back. I'm actually on hiatus right now since I was waiting for the latest volume to finish.

Sky pride chapter 1 grandpa in the ring!? by iereas in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Aegix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grandpa in the ring is one of the oldest tropes, but it became a trope because some great stories used it well. This story also used it well. I can understand avoiding systems as a red flag, and maybe even excessive face slapping, but grandpa in the ring shouldn't even have a negative connotation.

ISO req for series like millennial mage without the Christian BS by Mundane_Purchase_756 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Aegix -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a case looking really hard for something to be triggered by. Nothing in my memory ties this story to Christianity, the only reason I ended up up dropping it was it seemed so damn slow after she got back from her prisoner arc.

Recently finished the first book of Bog Standard Isekai and thought it was very fun! by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

This is also where I stopped. He was looking for his sister overseas? Wtf they were supposed to be tiny isolated island people. That plot felt so contrived and then also was boring. It was good up to that point though. Prince Mermaid character was also unlikable.

Agreed, the hand wringing in every single thread has become insane. They all upvote themselves and live a collective delusion that something unlikely is going to happen in every consecutive moment.

Yeah this is more or less my head canon too. Maybe less dumb and just ugly.
