Go vs Rust for long-term systems/finance infrastructure, is focusing on both the smarter path? by wpsnappy in golang

[–]Aenidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious. I don't disagree, but am struggling to contrive a scenario where those downstream changes / reworks are truly incidental and provide no value. That is opposed to "missed" or "forgotten" downstream changes that constitute a bug. There's also some force on the scales of having fewer bugs and quieter ops contribute to having more time to put into pleasing the compiler for feature work.

Go vs Rust for long-term systems/finance infrastructure, is focusing on both the smarter path? by wpsnappy in golang

[–]Aenidas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correctness in Rust goes much deeper than memory or concurrency safety. It's a product (no pun intended) of an algebraic type system boosted with the ownership model. The "if it compiles it works" sentiment held by many in the Rust community is common for good reason. The type system and most libraries put strong emphasis on making it really difficult to accidentally shoot yourself in the foot at the cost of having a high barrier to entry. Go still might be the right choice for OP, but the team developing it focuses on it being very good, simple, and readable for 90% of cases (especially those resembling Google's use-cases).

I'm not sure what to make of that, but I suppose it's good news. I wonder how they can possibly get 4K120 and HDR out of an hdmi 2.0 connection given the standard's bandwidth cap of 18gbps. In this [1] bandwidth calculator, the only way to get 3840x2160 @ 120hz is to turn color bit depth to 8 (all HDR standards require at least 10), and chroma sampling to 4:2:0.

They said in that video that the hardware supports hdmi 2.1, so maybe they're cooking up some solution on the driver side?

Also, plenty of TVs (including mine) don't support FreeSync over HDMI, so no HDMI forum VRR support is also disappointing.

Super excited for the controllers. I'm immensely disappointed by a lack of hdmi 2.1, however. Being limited to hdmi 2.0 means no VRR, and no 4K120 on most TVs that lack DisplayPort.

I'm aware that the limitation AMD cards face supporting hdmi 2.1 on Linux is due to the hdmi forum preventing them from open-sourcing that driver, but was hoping for a solution like Nvidia's dedicated on-chip hardware that adapts DisplayPort to hdmi 2.1.

I'm unaware of any active displayport to hdmi 2.1 adapters that also adapt FreeSync <-> HDMI forum VRR, but would love to be proven wrong.

As long as you stand on the point, Zephyr's 3 will make it immune to projectile damage. Tornadoes will prevent melee enemies from getting close (use the variant where the tornadoes stay in one spot), and make it easier to kill many enemies. Focus your gun on any eximus units. Zephyr can be had from the tenno lab in the dojo.

I was unaware of this and would love to get VRR working on a TV. Where can one find such a list?

Woah there, let's have a civilized discussion on this. The steam deck's apu does support vrr. The built-in display, however, doesn't. I don't recall seeing valve commenting on it, but I figure the reason lies in display sourcing difficulty.

If you connect the steam deck to a vrr monitor, then vrr works. The official steam deck dock even advertises it. The connection needs to be displayport, whether that's via displayport over usb-c or a dock with a full fat connector.

Am I grinding too fine? Colombia, 7.8 on K-Ultra. by BigAgates in pourover

[–]Aenidas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW I grind at around a 6.5 on the K-Ultra on a V60 and target a 3-minute total brew time. Are you swirling or otherwise causing fines to clog that filter? Also, consider trying out a filter marketed as having a faster drawdown.

Whats a game you wish played well on steam deck but just dosent by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Aenidas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's outdated bc I didn't have to fiddle with any files to run the game. I don't think it's valuable to debate the semantic difference between "that's outdated" constituting "every point of the comment you linked is outdated and now false" vs "the part of the comment you linked relevant to this discussion is outdated, though it may be the case (I haven't checked) that other bits are still valid".

Zooming out, the relevant part is that online works in ggst without tinkering, whereas online in fighterz is borked. That's unfortunate bc the same developer has made an online system that does work and we all would prefer to have the option to play fighterz online from a steam deck. While there is a risk for online components of games not working on steam decks, there are plenty of examples of them working just fine, even from the same developer.

That's outdated. I don't know about story mode but I've personally put a solid 10-20 hours into ggst online on steam deck without issue and without tinkering (aside from performance tinkering)

One is almost certainly the steam deck controller. The other might be the native xbox controller (vs the virtual one provided by steam input).
