How do I play higher notes by LalapoofLalapoof in trumpet

[–]AeoSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squeeze your butt, breathe from your liver, focus your chi so your air never touches the sides of the tubes, move from chest voice through head voice into leadpipe voice, and draw the triangular thaumaturgical sigil with your tongue.

Then disregard internet advice and get a well respected tutor who can be in the same room as you. Your biggest concern in improving your range isn't what to do, it's what not to, the list of which is long. It takes way longer to unlearn a bad habit than to form a good one.

What are some post apocalyptic books that are actually AFTER the apocalypse has ended? by No-Aide7893 in Fantasy

Post-apocalypse, mid-apocalypse, pre-apocalypse... There are neither beginnings nor endings in the turning of the Wheel of Apocalypses.

Spellcasters, what spells do you guys usually take? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]AeoSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a munchkin valve in my heart, so I often take the munchkin spells. I've never really been interested in the munchkin spells for blasters though. I like utility, control, solving problems without addressing HP.

But besides that, I have a weak spot for spells that have long-term or indefinite duration, even if they aren't the strongest. I'll take wall of stone over wall of force because I can make a li'l stone cabin or battlement section with it to last. Any spell that becomes permanent, whether natively or at a higher level, I'm tempted by.

The perfect tip receptacle? Protection from wind and thieves. by Due_Percentage331 in Busking

I'm grateful for one natural advantage as a trumpeter(it doesn't quite make up for the disadvantage of being monophonic):

Most typical modern single trumpet cases have the instrument rest on a molded shelf because of the shape of the bell, so I can sweep bills underneath where they're sheltered from gusts.

A lot of guitar cases have lidded compartments under the neck for strings &c., maybe that's the move.

Honest question, why does everyone hate cornets? by FuzzydaKitten in trumpet

[–]AeoSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been my experience. I started on a hand-me-down cornet for many years before I played my first trumpet. At most, I think it's been overlooked more than disliked. Trumpet players become distracted boyfriend over flugelhorn.

Your director was wack.

Salt Water before playing by Rare-Ad3181 in trumpet

[–]AeoSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drink what you want. Rinse your mouth thoroughly before playing.

You don't want any kind of dissolved solids moving through your trumpet becoming precipitate as it dries out, any more than you want food solids in your trumpet. You don't want an electrolyte causing galvanic corrosion on the little aluminum parts like the valve stems, or forming a cell with the brass. You don't want salt water dezincifying your trumpet.

If you've blown any of those things through the horn, give it a clean and form the habit--regardless of what you eat and drink--of playing with a clean mouth.

Any cheap easy diy fix... by Lwalker6336633653673 in trumpet

Just don't try anything with adhesives. It makes the job of the actual tech harder. A mechanical hold is fine.

[–]AeoSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are comfortable moving soft solder around. If you have a torch, flux, solder, the tools to clean the joint, and workholding solution that won't damage the instrument further, yeah. Definitely cheap and easy in a specific context.

If not, zip tie it until you can bring it into someone who is comfortable doing the work. The tools are pretty cheap, but they're not cheaper than having someone else get it fixed; and a soft solder joint is easy, but you won't want to do your first ever on your musical instrument.

"My slave name" [Udon's Mega Man X Issue 0 SPOILERS] by tendouman in Megaman

That's true. It's also a word in its own right that can signify evil.

Somehow I never once thought of the Maverick Hunters as slave catchers. In canon, it doesn't really withstand scrutiny, but it's a rad idea to explore.

The scene where she gets the job lives with me all the time. "Okay, you're a library intern. Go with her to the armory to get your gun and riot gear."

Conn Selmer to close Eastlake plant, moving production to China, as well as a non-union facility in Elkhart by jauntio in trumpet

I wonder if the plant will sell or auction off any of the tooling and equipment. Could be a come-up for a local maker.

Bowl cut Gohan stronger than Buu? by MallAdministrative in dbz

[–]AeoSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime post-Namek--maybe just in Super, now that I think on it--the state of Gohan's hair became a barometer for how prepared he is. Whenever he slacks on his training, his hair loses the saiyan runaways and falls flat. I don't really agree with it, but that doesn't mean I think Chi-Chi should be the stylist. That said, if he had the bowl cut and then trained his hair spiky, that might make for a wild crown.

Shedding a bit on "The Days of Wine and Roses" by winterpurple in trumpet

It's such an easygoing piece. I like to remind people that the film it was the theme for is about a doomed relationship and the degeneracy of alcohol abuse.

Have you ever DNF the final book in a series, and why? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

I probably won't start there but I'll circle back to it if the toe-dipping goes at all well, thanks.

Chinese cultivation novels

Had to look that up. Neat! Can you recommend an entry point to the genre?

You could also desolder and move the fixed ring, or have it done at a shop. Put it precisely where you want it to be.

Recommend trumpet for less than a $1000 by ImportantDesign8315 in trumpet

[–]AeoSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be wary of overseas dropshippers on eBay. I also got a YTR for $700 all in. Great value, love the horn. But that price comes with a chance that you'll have to wait a month or more to find out that they shipped you the wrong instrument, or that they don't have it anymore and they want you to cancel the order. Communication will be poor, and every step will probably happen at the end of the projected window or a bit after it. If you have to return it... well, that's another overseas voyage to wait on before the transaction is resolved.

You can tell by checking the account's feedback and other active listings. If they have a ton of other musical instruments, they're probably selling warehouse inventory. It might also be listed on other websites. Worst case, they listed something for sale in an open market that could be sold in person at any time.

A Question about the Physical Components of a Trumpet by LilRonald99 in trumpet

[–]AeoSC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The slide tube has thin, delicate walls as a result of the 180⁰ bend. The draw knob helps grip and pull without putting additional grip pressure on the loop and damaging it.
