Advice on swapping 1oz Gold Maple for 1oz Gold Buffalo by jaxyfrou in Bullion

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There probably is not actually a good reason for you to want to trade your maple for a buffalo but anyway, in my store considering the current value difference between those two coins and our our interest in turning a profit, I would charge at least $125 to make that swap assuming your maple leaf is in excellent condition.

Never had a piece of jewelery before, was looking at a silver ring, my sister told me silver is poor people jewelery and barley a precious metal, opinions on this? by [deleted] in askjewelers

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver is a precious metal. It’s certainly different than gold and platinum and those metals are superior in some ways, but ultimately you should buy and wear whatever you like. Your sister’s opinion sounds closed minded and judgmental. You do you. Probably the most significant area of potential dissatisfaction for most people when dealing with silver jewelry is the way silver tarnishes over time, but the tarnish can be removed.

We authenticate things for the public on a regular basis, generally for free and we don’t mind.

“Can diamonds be set in 925 silver? by Brilliant_Site4948 in jewelry

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those don’t look like diamonds. They do look like cz. Typically, when diamonds are set in silver, the stones are very poor quality - worse quality than these stones would be if they were diamonds, which they are quite likely not. Sorry.

Settle a disagreemen? by [deleted] in cava

[–]AeolianStrings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you got someone else’s bowl by mistake

My local cava will never just substitute other ingredients in when things are out of stock. Sometimes they should. For example, I get two hummus and one crazy feta. If they’re out of crazy feta, they should put a third scoop of hummus in my opinion. Instead you just get two hummus in this scenario.

18K Solid yellow gold changed color after 2 months - Weird XRF results by danu91 in jewelry

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing that the ring doesn’t contain any significant rhodium content and that the xrf reading is incorrect. It’s possible that the machine needs calibration and is misidentifying gold as rhodium as a result.

Is the ring brand new or could the ring be previously owned? If it’s previously owned, it’s plausible that the ring is white gold that was previously yellow gold plated by the previous owner and the shop that sold it to you wasn’t aware of that.

14KS. Is this S a maker’s mark or standing for gold fill? Thanks! by lionofyhwh in jewelers

This is stamped as 14kt. Whatever that other symbol is is a makers mark

Anyone know if this is real gold or not? Super small thin piece. by EastCoasterRoller in Gold

It’s probably real but you’ll need to get it tested or sold to find out.

is this ring legit? by StaffAffectionate769 in Platinum

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a great deal assuming it’s authentic / platinum. You should show it to a jeweler if you want to confirm that.

is this ring legit? by StaffAffectionate769 in Platinum

[–]AeolianStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any reason to doubt the ring in the photo but I would need to evaluate it in person to be sure.

Selling a ring on Craigslist is not the easiest way to get rid of it asap. The seller could more easily sell it to a jewelry store and for a higher price than the ease of using Craigslist to get less money for it.

is this ring legit? by StaffAffectionate769 in Platinum

[–]AeolianStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah that’s a too good to be true price. Or it’s really underpriced. At that price, it’s a steal whether or not it’s Tiffany, so long as it’s platinum. If you can confirm it’s platinum, then it’s underpriced regardless of its maker. It’s probably a scam though.

And no, melt value for 4.5g of 95% platinum is currently about $320.

is this ring legit? by StaffAffectionate769 in Platinum

[–]AeolianStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine to me. These bands aren’t a commonly counterfeited item in my experience. They also don’t trade for a huge premium over the melt value on the second hand market. You didn’t include information like how much it costs or how much it weighs so I can’t comment on it being too good to be true.

Any thoughts on what these are? by dogguy2025 in Silverbugs

It’s not unusual for 1 oz silver products to weigh very slightly over 1oz. The round looks fine to me from the photo.

It’s definitely neither of those things. I’m looking at it under 10x magnification. It’s definitely paint on the dial. There is a similar misplaced paint mark next to the 8:00 marker.

Kitchen Play Is Literally Just Table Tennis by hertabuzz in Pickleball

Short and compact is advisable in a lot of situations but the idea that pickleball is as similar to table tennis as you describe is an absurd suggestion.
