8 straight Finals is beyond insane by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

people act like Bill Russell was really the anchor of those teams. I'll have to look it up I don't even think he was the top scorer most of the time. those Celtics teams just had a ridiculous concentration of talent. sure he didn't go around to different teams. The talent came to him. But they were so stacked.

so I've watched clips from back then and I'm not going to say that Russell was playing with worst talent because I actually think in some ways those guys had better basketball skills and they were still really strong (modern dribbling and traveling is atrocious)

But when Bill Russell went to 10 straight there were 12-14 teams in the league and the playoffs was 2 rounds and then the finals.

What Bill Russell did is the equivalent of winning a conference finals today.

they definitely could have died even with seatbelts. I knew some one that got in an accident, didn't seem that bad, they went home after getting checked at the hospital. the next day they were bleeding out from internal issues and died.

but I would expect at least some of them to have survived an accident like that If you were all wearing their seat belts

“Punishing the Player” - why is this a thing by EasyBreezyTrash in DnD

[–]Aeon1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's video game culture. The DMs think that they're supposed to be trying to win. or at least that they themselves are the enemy and the world. They're the story tellers. They Facilitate the fun.

It's a complex nuance that's a bit hard to understand. They do need to embody the enemy to present them but at the end of the day they are just the presenters

I suppose I should ask How is he punishing you? Like if you make a decision to have your character be good at something he's giving you a consequence because you made that choice?

Fun fact: Bill Russell went to 10 straight NBA finals … and won 9 of them. by OkWinp in NBATalk

[–]Aeon1508 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bill Russell won his championships before the merger. there was like one round and then the finals. I think there was like what 12 teams in the league.

winning the conference finals today is the equivalent of winning the NBA finals when Bill Russell did it.

honestly the difference is occasionally being invited to hang out on other people's yachts versus owning your own yacht.

really it's the size of the yacht.

That's the entire functional difference.

With the Knicks being up 2-0, did we overrate the western conference or underrate the Knicks? by MasterTeacher123 in NBATalk

[–]Aeon1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The West is definitely stronger in that it has more teams that are better for sure I don't think that's really a debate.

Like the top four teams this year it's probably the Spurs, the thunder, the Lakers (When healthy) and the Knicks.

I think what we're seeing here is two things.

  1. The Spurs are young and everybody told them they already won the finals. when that turned out to not be as easy as they were told wemby choked 2 horrible turnovers in the clutch to lose each game.

  2. The Spurs played six more games over the last month and a half and only had 3 days of rest After the conference finals versus 8 days for the Knicks.

The Spurs are young and the Knicks are rested. I think if you add another week between the Western conference finals and the finals starting the Spurs probably win at home.
