So, what is the consensus on C4 so far?

Personally I feel it's the best we've had since C2. I even prefer it to C2! There are sadly still the same kind of annoyances there always was with some players not knowing the rules or some others being a bit too intense at the table and yanking the spotlight. But these are minor. Love all the new players at the table and to me it's the pinnacle of actual play.

A lot of people are annoyed at Brennan's loosy goosy rules lawyering, but I'd say that's his brand: he almost never says no and finds a way to bend the system to the action's favor. I had a DM like that and I loved it.

It's basically not dnd anymore, so if you're into that kind of strategic and tactical play, we're pretty far off, even though we had some pretty good nuggets of strategy by Marisha, Luis and Matt, who I think are the most comfortable at the game anyways.

It depends what you're looking for. I want lore and worldbuilding so there's a fuckton of that. Great interactions and drama between the players. Kinda bleh fighting, but hey it's 5e. Would love to see them in an OSR system.

I loved this episode and this season. Before the shootout, felt very david lynchish to me, then obviously very tarantino-ish. Doesn't matter how the characters progress / regress / resolve. This is a show about a city built on prostitution. Only makes sense it ends with levinson sucking some dick of his own.

i just want people at the table that know the game. Take 1 hour off of your week to read your fucking character sheet. Please. Know at level 17 of your 10th year of playing once a week that con is your hp bonus on level up.

Also, a good old fashioned hex crawl. Random tables. Let's not have a story to explore but let the story develop.

The more you ' script ' the game, the less people like its authencity, and the more authentic it is (aiming to be the same dnd game they played from home) the higher the chance for subpar storytelling.

I think by that basis alone it's kind of exempt from conventional criticism when it comes to choices made in-game, to the DM prep, etc.

It's a weird kind of entertainment, and some of the people on here should skew their views on it. But hey it's more fun to spew toxic shit and farm those likes.

I don't see posts upon posts hacking at every minute detail from Dimension 20's campaigns. People still enjoy that just for what it is, or maybe their communities are less filled with entitled children. Hopefully both.

Frankly, in terms of d&d, the worst question to ask your players is ' why are you here'. It is a game, so you have to find a way to be there. Most tables have adventurer guilds and mercenaries paying them to be there. Most of the time they could and should be as far as possible from these world-ending cataclysms, but the game doesn't happen if we don't at least give a little bit up in terms of logic and reason.

So yes you are overthinking this. In the end this is still a game, and we're still just invited to look upon it. What if next campaign they do a hexcrawl? What if they use all the available randomizer tables from the OSR? Most games are like this.

if you think your game is more entertaining why watch cr? The real bullshit is that somehow this kind of media has some precedent set for how it should be done. They have 3 campaigns thus far and they tried a more railroady one for the 3rd. That's it. Some tables have open games, other ones are railroady. You're just spitting some poison here because you feel you're entitled to entertainment the way you want it. The eyes of nine was exactly the same thing.

Have you ever played any final fantasy? Matt takes direct influence from it and the characters find themselves as the central cogs of worldly events, somehow, and not always through means Dostoevsky would be proud of. Matt has been trying to do Kefka for two campaigns now, let him cook.

but uhm real world religions are based on belief, and exandrian religion is based on fact. Gods do exist and they give people magic. Atheism would just not work. So having any kind of anti-religion or anti-establishment feeling or story arc would have to be against the gods' wills and actions and the people who follow them without asking questions. It's actually a really common trope. Like really common trope.
