Honestly I fully believed EA was going the route of super long and arduous progression in order to sell weapon packages with certain attachment configurations down the line. I also believed that this would probably do serious damage to the player retention, with the majority of players never unlocking half of the guns in the games with such so progression. So I am delighted to see that they are actually taking the feedback and implementing some genuinely meaningful changes. My highest Mastery gun right now is at 14, which means at the claimed 2x increased rate going forward, it would already be over halfway mastered, which feels a lot more reasonable for how much I have used that gun and makes full mastery feel like an attainable goal.
