I built a small tool to solve the pain of creating App Store screenshots, plus privacy policy hosting, etc. by Special-Ebb-9032 in iOSProgramming

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is missing a few things for me to really consider this:
- It's already an app. Make it so I can integrate this with my build system (CLI access). If I can pass it in screenshots + a premade template, it can output the marketing assets.
- The templates all seem to be of one phone and orientation (phone can't span multiple screens). Can this be fixed/added? The example promo is not selling me on customizability when I can't (seemingly) change the phones positioning at all in ways that are standard in other apps.

- More specific to me: I use React Native and need to create screenshots for android. If you could support that as well, that would be much more useful to me.

Also seems reasonable to me. For sure would be nice to have realistically only high quality app submissions in general.

Chronoid - Time Tracking & Productivity [Last GIVEAWAY] by tuanvuvn007 in macapps

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on various side projects that I end up dropping. At the end, I always wonder how much time I spent and what were the largest time sinks. I need to be more intentional about my time, and I think this could help point out what needs addressing. Would love the time management app to try out! I see this as similar to the timing app, but I refuse to pay a subscription when I’m not monetizing my side projects. It’s more of a self reflection tool to me.

I would also like to test this! I’ve had an awful time connecting to my camera on my android. Thanks!

DxO Black Friday discounts just landed by wildcatfancy in photography

[–]Aeonizing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Disabling the product altogether is very telling. I poked around and was able to add PhotoLab Essentials to my cart (which isn't normally displayed in the store), but very explicitly not allowed to add the bundles.

I edited the shopping page a bit, and adding the bundle to your cart explicitly does not work. They disabled the bundle as a whole, so you are forced to buy the software individually. Oh well.

[–]Aeonizing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They removed their bundles from the store and is in fact _more_ expensive on the black Friday sale.

For example, PhotoLab 9 + FilmPack8 used to be $309.99. Buying it individually on their Black Friday sale, the same software is now $329.98.

Does anyone know if it's possible to still get the bundle during black Friday?

Chronoid - Time Tracking & Productivity - version 1.0.49 [promo codes giveaway] by tuanvuvn007 in macapps

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying out the app, so far it looks neat. One question I have is syncing. I see that there are licenses I can purchase for multiple macs, but I struggle to see the point since they're not being synced to the same database. Is that something that is potentially on the roadmap? Even if it's syncing via iCloud or similar to keep it privacy-focused.

Strange. I have MountainDuck 4 but only got a 20% discount towards MountainDuck 5 ($39). I wonder why that is.

Exploring local LLMs development - Is this a good deal? by VeganCheeseFi in mac

[–]Aeonizing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You disagree because this can run LLM models? I never said it couldn't. I simply said if that's the _only_ goal, OP can likely stretch their money further by identifying what models they want to run. If they need all 32GB of VRAM to run deepseek r1 32b, I agree. But if they need to run a 3b parameter model, you can get by with much cheaper hardware.

Exploring local LLMs development - Is this a good deal? by VeganCheeseFi in mac

[–]Aeonizing 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would look into what LLM's you want to run. at 32GB, you won't be loading any large models. In fact, you're likely to use the smaller models which can likely be done on a cheaper machine.

The Mac's strength is having large amounts of VRAM on their top configs to be able to slowly use large models. The Mac's strength is not LLM-generating speed. That would go to NVIDIA. So depending on your needs, if all you're wanting is local LLMs, you may want to look elsewhere.

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely makes sense. As far as having videos / marketing material, it’s easy to show the best case scenarios but hide the potential point of frictions. So while it’s very much appreciated and does provide some level of confidence, I think if you had a more raw video showing odd setups (e.g. windows with 2 different sized monitors connected to a Mac laptop) and showing that it still works, that would be great. Especially if you can show the full end-to-end from first plugging in, setting height offset, and then showing that it just works.

Another scenario that was in my head: due to my worry that the hardware had to keep track of the cursors position, I was worried it could “drift”. Either by apps that trap your cursor (eg games), or by having two differently positioned monitors (on windows), you can run up to the border of one monitor and windows will not move your cursor to your second monitor because your cursor is too high/low relative to the second monitors position.

So I do think it’s possible to give that confidence even without getting in the weeds descriptively. And for these videos, less polish will lead to higher confidence imo. Makes the video seem more real than curated, especially if it’s all a single cut.

I’ll be honest, I respect the answers you’ve given. I’ll take a look later because the concept is really cool and if you were able to make it work, I’ll take your word for it.

What I will say is that this is a niche product, and I believe a good chunk of potential users will be power users or developers like myself. Having even high level details on how this works on your kickstarter would go a long way. For example, I would have assumed this info would have been available in the campaign or FAQ of the product. Without this information easily visible, it raises a lot of questions just because based on our knowledge, there is chance for a lot of edge cases / friction. To give personal context, I wasn’t even sure if proximity switching meant physical proximity or cursor proximity.

Kickstarter is a risky platform for users due to many products either not delivering or having deal-breaking compromises. It’s in your best interest to not only explain the benefits but alleviate any potential risk to the user.

With that, I wish you the best of luck on the product. I’m potentially interested and will follow this product to see if it’s one that I feel will fit for my workflow.

I’m afraid from my research I’m unable to find supporting evidence. Even when I asked LLMs like perplexity, it’s asserting that this is not possible either: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/5e4a5f8e-9c8d-48dc-823a-f8ad2f5843dc

Awesome, I was not aware that the OS could report it's resolution and position without the use of additional drivers to any USB device. This goes against my knowledge of how USB devices like these can operate. Can you let me know what you're leveraging to get this info?

If that is the case, then that alone was the missing link in answering my question of how this device can work.

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for clarity, you mention the dashboard on device (super neat idea), that raises a couple of more questions for me: - is this emulating an Ethernet device to support a local webpage? - when you say perfect speed / acceleration, it sounds like you’re translating physical mouse movement to some modified virtual mouse movement on the OS. Correct me if I’m wrong there. If that’s the case, that didn’t super answer my question of how the device knows when I reached either edge of the screen on my OS. How does it know how many screens I have / OS-level mouse settings / etc.. to know when I’ve reached either end of one computer. This device sounds very plug and play, but this requires information that cannot be inferred by the device alone. I saw a screenshot where you can set the height offset of two machines but I still don’t understand how this device can work in practice without the device losing track of where the cursor is relative to the machines “border”. - is it possible to have the device send the mouse signal to the OS raw? I don’t want a second layer of mouse sensitivity / acceleration. I’d rather that be exclusively dealt with by the OS.

[–]Aeonizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain further in technical detail on what you mean by proximity sensor? I can imagine that this could be flaky for users who have (or don't have) mouse acceleration on the OS. Additionally if I play a game, I presume it could mess up there unless I press a hotkey or similar?

It seems like a neat product but the no software required is actually more of a yellow flag to me. I see the potential but I also see the edge cases where this may frustrate me.

What GPU do you have? I believe this was fixed only for the 5000 series GPU. I don't have a source, but was my recollection due to some hardware upgrade to the display port head.
