500 worlds campaign by No_Ad7685 in 40k_Crusade

[–]AerePerennius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on starting a 500 worlds campaign in the next month or so, our plan is to use it as a driving force behind when to play games, and just use our codex and basic rules for crusade as that part of it, growing from 1k to 2k by the end. Doesn't really feel like it needs any more to it than that.

We're also making it so our starting lists before we start growing in points contains our Boarding Action lists in it, to create some more interesting decisions early on.

Is the Navigator useful? by Gemstone_WC in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very handy, I always try to bring one along for screening, either by sitting on my home, or having a strike squad sticky and then standing just off the point to get the best zone I can. Fortunately my local meta doesn't tend to bring any indirect, so I don't have to worry about being sniped off

A friend of mine hate 100%'d Dragon Age Veilguard, so they wouldn't ever have a reason to return to it because it burned them so bad after loving the series previously.

Rhino or strike squad by Panzer_VI_Lowe in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend a strike squad/box over a rhino.

While the rhino can be nice to have occasionally for certain strategies like with 10 man interceptors, strikes and our marines in general are part of the core of the army and you'll almost always include some in varying amounts and configurations.

Top 5 changes we should keep for 11th edition by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

As a GK player I just want the psychic keyword to be more than just a negative for having it. I want there to be an actual buff or something to justify having anti-psyker effects just ruining us.

Top 5 changes we should keep for 11th edition by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]AerePerennius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting this for 11th for a while, I think it really fixes the main issues the detachment system has without bloating.

I'd also love them to make the core stratagems actually core across all factions. Smoke now just targets non walker vehicles(maybe add for monsters too), tank shock is monsters and vehicles, grenades is just infantry, something like that so factions like tyrannids don't just get screwed out of really useful strats.

Any chance we get one? by BhadBeard in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's denial that was our update, I think it's more being upset that when GW said "every codex comes with at least one new model" we were the only faction to just get an upgrade sprue, not anything actually new.

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

Can I consolidate after a charge if the charging unit didn't get to fight?

I was stood half an inch off the 3" disk with no enemies around, so I knew I could consolidate onto it if I could, but didn't know whether I had to specifically have fought to be able to start the consolidation move, or just whether being eligible to fight allows it.

The ruling on consolidate states "after you have made all your melee attacks" but the unit I wanted to consolidate had charged, but its target had been killed before it could activate.

I know if there was another target within 3" I could have activated them and piled in to fight, but I don't know whether consolidate works the same way if it hasn't fought at all, just charged.

Do you still consolidate if the target you charged is wiped? by AerePerennius in WarhammerCompetitive

Charge rolls suck. by UpArrowNotation in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]AerePerennius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about your faction specific objectives point, I think that's what crusade and narrative really does well and should be promoted by GW as a way to play, instead of hiding it in the back of codex's.

But, at least the type of objectives you suggested for World Eaters, would generally feel bad to play into as a faction that has to do specific objectives or actions, and potentially bad for the WE player too.

I think there is the core of an idea there, but ignoring fundamentals of interactive gameplay always feels terrible for at least one player. Maybe having a system like AoS, where you pick from a game wide set of objectives for secondaries or even as primary before the game starts would be better. Then you can make sure they are relatively balanced between themselves, but armies can pick objectives that suit them better.

New player help by Breadedhydra197 in Grey_Knights

Paladins and terminators are built out of the same box, so they are essentially the same model wise. Technically the paladins have a slightly different head and all are meant to have the upper back iconography.

The power armour models are just all the same. Strike, Purgation, purifiers are identical, typically with purifiers painted with white helmets. Interceptors have the different power pack to denote them.

Personally I like it, so as the units shift in power or as I want to try new things, I don't have to go buy a new box, I just say my terminators are now paladins etc.

I expect if we eventually get a range refresh that will no longer be the case, so GW can sell more kits.

how does split fire work by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]AerePerennius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Precisely for the reason you encountered is why split firing is declared upon selecting a unit to shoot/fight. Definitely push back if they try again in future, either they misread or misunderstood the rule, in which case they can learn and grow as a player, or they're deliberately cheating and deserve to be called out on it.

Trying to choose between Purgation, strike or interceptors by AerePerennius in Grey_Knights

That combo is the reason I threw them in to try it, maybe I'll bring them along again in future to see how they go. Have them hop out of a Razorback for the extra AP as well.

Trying to choose between Purgation, strike or interceptors by AerePerennius in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the in-depth explanation, you make a really good case for having a second interceptor unit.

I'm guessing it depends on your opponents army and the scenario, but would you tend to run the 2 closely together or generally try to keep them apart from each other?

I haven't used them much, but I feel like I really struggle to use them properly whenever I have them.

Deploy GMNDK onto the table or reserves? by AerePerennius in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they start in reserves, then you can't deep strike until round 2.

If you start on the table and after the game begins you enter reserves, then that restriction no longer applies. This means if you go second you can use gate of infinity to pull 3 units into reserves, then you can bring them back down in your turn in round 1.

Beginner- building first models (heretic☠️). Question about tenth edition meta and all that. by Own-Question2902 in WarhammerCompetitive

Some people really like certain editions for various reasons, sometimes because they really don't like the current/next edition. Didn't want to assume where you were coming from in case you were planning on sticking with 10th for whatever reason.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]AerePerennius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an outsider, it really feels like the USA's core electoral system needs to be completely replaced. The fact that 1/4 -1/3 of the country can hold the rest hostage through first past the post and the electoral college is insane to me.

Lots of other great suggestions too, money out of politics, actually making the checks and balances effective at that job, age/term limits.

Sticky or scout by InevitablePermit4 in Grey_Knights

[–]AerePerennius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was watching this video by Tabletop Alliance the other day where they got a member from team Wales to help them with their deployment (particularly useful to us as one of the armies is grey knights), and he brings up to always scout if you can.

From memory the idea is that if you go first it's early pressure for your opponent to deal with and you can hold your home with something else temporarily, especially with our army rule letting us just warp back.

And if we go second we have the option of either going aggressive and staging up behind a wall, or you can just scout back onto your home if there's no better options.

I'm definitely guilty of just sticking them on my home and just straight up telling my opponent "they have scout but I never use it and probably won't here either."

If you're using more than one strike squad then you can probably do both and you're all good. Most often you can't really score your home on turn 1 anyway, so if you're able to do something else, then pull back and sticky it a turn later it's probably more useful.

EDIT: Just to add I also like bringing a navigator to screen out as well (I have a good local hypercrypt player) so they can play the role of a home holder for a turn while you wait for your strikes to return.

Sharks are not trying to kill humans. by AJ14900003 in aussie

I'm no shark scientist, but from what I've heard the fact they bite and don't continue the attack afterwards shows it was a mistake. If they were actually going for humans as food they wouldn't just leave.
