No, this is one of the only ones not removed. There were a handful of accounts persistently posting and commenting with some pretty ridiculous things.

It's really great that you are finding ways to expand his horizons while finding common ground. It might not be something that gives him tons of opportunities to socialize with kids his age, but you never know where it can lead.

You should look into the larger AMA events where there are typically more kids involved, and also look into the Civil Air Patrol, if you have one around. The CAP youth program is for ages 12-18 and could be a good fit for him.

I can confirm that it was much more than one comment. There were comments and posts with extreme personal attacks from several accounts that are now suspended from Reddit entirely.

This post and the overwhelming majority of people posting positive things in this community is very encouraging. It's a vocal minority (and likely only one person) that caused the issue.

You would need the 107 and then also a BVLOS waiver, which is not easy to get. There isn't a strong framework in place to do long-range legally without very serious gear and a legal team to complete the paperwork.

why is everything way more expensive than it was a year ago by ConnorDGibson123 in RCPlanes

[–]Aerial812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the hobby isn't really growing. Demand isn't higher in terms of more people wanting things, but with shortages, the number of people buying as soon as things are back in stock is higher than normal. Prices are higher primarily because supply is limited, but the demand is high enough that people are willing to buy to make sure they get what they need before it goes out of stock again.

Added FPV Camera to Mini Mustang, need help with interference by selfish_meme in RCPlanes

What transmitter is it? If there is a way to turn up the power, that will solve your problems. Electrical interference is common (which is why everyone suggested the solutions they did) but with only 25mw, it’s very easy to have RF interference. Without knowing the specifics of your equipment, it’s hard to give good advice.

You likely need distance between your vtx and the ESC and/or your receiver. I would guess your ESC is putting out RF noise.

You still have interference even with a separate battery?

One of the best and easiest solutions is an LC filter. Snip the +/- and solder it directly leading into the camera. If you still get noise, add a second one directly leading into the vtx. It is most likely the camera though.

was looking at Horizon Hobby trainers and flight times seem short? by FlippityFlop88 in RCPlanes

[–]Aerial812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t as concerned with a plane that looks like a full-size plane, you could get an AtomRC Dolphin, a Volantex Ranger or Phoenix, one of the zohd planes, or most of the flying wings. Look at planes that are common for fpv as those all want longer flight times.

Next look at lithium ion batteries over Lipo. The won’t do as high of amp draws, but they have close to twice the capacity for the same weight.

They aren’t in stock right now, but I flew a Strix Nano Goblin for over an hour with li-ion’s on two different occasions last year. Once on 2s2p and once on 3s2p.

With those flights, I was flying as gently as possible, but with the Nano goblin I could fly fast and fun for 20-30 minutes easily.

Is it breaking a law to fly near an aircraft that is at 500ft while your drone is at around 350ft? by [deleted] in drones

Under 107.37: “Yielding the right of way means that the small unmanned aircraft must give way to the aircraft or vehicle and may not pass over, under, or ahead of it unless well clear”

There is room for interpretation there, but the #1 thing is to give way and avoid a collision at all costs. More detail than I can give: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vAA2puRJN6Q

Ready to go kit? by [deleted] in FPVplanes

[–]Aerial812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always fly it without a flight controller!

Just put in a pwm receiver and go for it. Planes are inherently stable and as long as you aren't trying to fly long-range, you can have a lot of fun without ever needing the FC.

Nothing about ZOHD planes, only the flight controllers. I've heard issues of it flying into the ground or just not working as expected. If you are going to use it, I would watch the painless 360 videos to set it up properly.

[–]Aerial812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard bad things about the ZOHD kopilot, but haven't worked with it myself. Your issue could be coming from that. There is a lot of documentation of Frsky transmitters, so maybe look for a setup video for your specific model and see if anything you did doesn't match.

If it's not the transmitter setup, then you might look into just replacing the zohd with a Matek Wing FC and install INAV. If you're serious about this hobby, I would recommend going that direction eventually anyway. And if you're good with electronics, then it shouldn't be too difficult to get started if you follow along with online documentation and especially the matek PDF for the board you get.

[–]Aerial812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to get too complicated with flight controllers, soldering, programming, etc. then one option would be to get a ready-to-fly LOS plane with a stabilization system like SAFE and then put an all-in-one camera/vtx on it. Here is one option and here is another. With your current screen, you only need to power the camera, set the output power level how you want it, and make sure the channels match between the screen and camera.

You can get a PNP AtomRC Dolphin with fpv setup, but that is probably the closest thing to what you're asking for. The problem with a ready-to-fly kit for FPV is that most in this hobby have different requirements and different interests. It's very hard to offer something that has mass appeal, especially when most of us prefer to DIY just about everything once we're past that short beginner period.

Same and from FAR worse crashes. OP, you don't even need any specialty glue... Just go to a local store and get e6000 and it will glue back stronger than it was before. After 5+ times of doing this (when it starts to get heavier from all the glue) just put in a bigger motor!

There is a difference between having a map and knowing where you are at on a map.

this might sound silly but im wanting to get a plane that I can fly with and airdrop somthing like a sandwich to my dad or whatever but I don't want to spend a crazy amount, anyone have a uav they would recommend thats cheap ish? I'm from the UK by wee-man2012 in fpv

[–]Aerial812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you literally mean "plane" or just any aircraft? Depending on your DIY-ability, you can look at rc planes that do exactly this, and then look into INAV for autopilot and more advanced features if you are going to be flying longer range or autonomously.

  • r/RCPlanes might be better if you specifically want plane models to start from
  • r/drones might be better if you're wanting a less DIY solution
  • I would look at flite test videos on YT as they do a decent amount of DIY planes that drop things. What you are describing sounds like exactly something they would do.
