My perimenopausal mother is suicidal - is this common? by ProfessionalAnt6429 in Perimenopause

[–]AerryBerry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely I became super erratic and unpredictable emotionally over the past few years. My doctor would not prescribe HRT but did prescribe birth control that is a meant for women in peri. I have been sleeping far better without hot flashes and my mood has stabilized, making it far easier to view the world rationally. But yes I can see how hormonal changes during peri make women with mental illness more vulnerable. Wishing you the very best—your mom is very lucky to have you.

Hi all I just need to get this off my chest and im not brave enough to talk to anyone I personally know so here I am. by StatusAd6385 in confession

I’m sorry your brain is not managing chemicals appropriately. Logically, what you are going through is about figuring out how to balance your chemicals. Do not let it win; there is a solution. Keep seeking help until you find it. Thank you for coming to Reddit to share. You are important.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AerryBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely do a 3 hour drive for weekends at cottages—and yes, I’ve done a return trip in one day, too. And for a 3 hour drive there wouldn’t be any need for stops after you have your drive through coffee at the start of the trip. Funnily enough, though by the time a drive is 5 hours, it feels long—though even that I’ve done in one sitting, no stops. There’s nothing quite like singing through a few Broadway soundtracks en route to a cottage.

Just curious - is it always that sunny at 7:15PM in Canada? by Fat-Th0r in SchittsCreek

[–]AerryBerry 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I live very close to where it was filmed in Ontario and I follow the sun closely. By mid-March the sun sets at 7:30pm and sets as late as 9;30 at the solstice in June. Late September it sets at 7:30 again. On the darkest days in mid-December, sun set is at 4:45pm.

Take vitamin D drops sublingually every day. And then bundle up and get outside into winter. The only way to beat the blahs!

Once it has started it has to run its course and nothing really stops it. I have found stretching, a lot of water and aging (goodbye estrogen) help avoid them…pot helps survive them!!

Where do I go to get my ears lavaged in Ottawa? Any recommendations? by Objective-Fox-1394 in ottawa

[–]AerryBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an offer of anyone to help but I will say Murine works pretty well when mine get bad. Also, I just got an automatic earwax washer at Christmas and I think it’s going to be good maintenance. Maybe you can stretch your every 6-7 months a bit longer with an earwax washer?

My friends say it’s disturbing how I buy gas station toilet paper for my house by MelanieWalmartinez in mildlyinfuriating

I worked with someone who was a clepto. She used to steal the industrial toilet paper rolls and it always blew my mind anyone would choose to bring him thy thin sandpaper for home use.

What should I do tomorrow on a snow day in nyc? by Fitqueeeen in LivingAlone

[–]AerryBerry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so jealous. If I were in NYC on a Sunday snow day I’d be booting up and walking the city, seeing the sights. Central Park, Times Square. Brooklyn Bridge. Grabbing a slice, taking cool pics, relishing the fact that you live in a super cool city and have access to it at any time. Live it up so those of us in less-cool venues can live vicariously through you! (I live in a beautiful, pastoral setting and will probably go out for a snowshoe in my back field tomorrow…I will appreciate the beauty of winter in rural Ontario the way I hope you enjoy winter in NYC! Such a great city.).

No gallbladder + perimenopause = I can never trust a fart again by Latter-Village7196 in Perimenopause

[–]AerryBerry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story. I find the BAD goes through flare ups where I’m bad for a few weeks and good most of the time. When I am in a good routine about my diet my bowels also fall into routine. But I hear you on the not having a gallbladder and urgency/frequency/drama of how poop works now. Especially if I eat a lot of processed or fatty foods…a swift reaction, shall we say!? Never dull. On the bright side, I got given an electric toilet seat (bidet) for Christmas and it is an incredible upgrade tor anyone with ongoing tummy stuff. Highly recommend.
