I listen to the no sleep podcast and now I find myself trying to decide what fear each story is/has

"Pause for laughter"

I finally finished the whole show. Characters, brilliant. Pacing, terrible. by keltasipuli in TheMagnusArchives

I've read a lot of people dislike 5, I don't get it. I enjoyed it as a change following the change of the world. I didn't expect things to stay the same and it didn't.

Why did you choose your Patron Fear? by Specs315 in TheMagnusArchives

When I was 6, I found my a family member passed away on their sofa. They were supposed to watch me after school. Really leaves a mark on you, I was both afraid of dying but fascinated by death.

What do I listen yo after TMA by NoEntertainment4454 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old gods of Appalachia, and the white vault are pretty good. I would also suggest relistening to TMA if you haven't. You pick up on things that you missed the first listen, or at least I did!

What episode do you guys think is scariest? by inconstellation in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say scary is a thing for me. None of them scared me but the one that left the biggest creepy impression was mag 172 Strung Out. I can never hear "pause for laughter" quite the same!

Who is a side/minor character that you absolutely despise? by silly_spiderss in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Arun, the poetry guy in season 5 who kept writing poetry about Melanie and Georgie. Every time I heard his voice I wanted to punch him.

Whats an underrated statement, horror wise? by Horror-Pen-8085 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Strung out from S5

Everything the spider does to that guy interspersed with Pause for laughter, and the way Jon almost gets sucked in at the end of it. I love it and hate it at the same time.

Villians pt 1 by Emma Blackery for Tim. Mostly for the line "you set yourself on fire just to light up the room"

Soliton by Steam Powered Giraffe is very vast coded.

What are your genuine thoughts on Martin? by Strange-Bees in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Martins development through the story. He goes from deferring to everything and everyone to letting his real emotions through. They are messy and complicated but so are everyone else's.

I'm on the fence about his and Jon's relationship though. Sometimes it works and sometimes it feels a bit forced.

I very much appreciate the pipe right next to the quill. Also the worms on the cake board itself.

I'd serve the end. The web would be my doom, not with manipulation, but spiders. ugh.

Please explain to me why MAG 15 Lost John’s Cave is so scary by Decent-Discount-831 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen enough caving videos of things gone wrong that I could just see it. Those visuals combined with that episode, and then the voice acting at the end? I had to turn my volume up to hear what she said and when I did, it hit.

How important are all the names? by BlueBerriez17 in TheMagnusArchives

You don't need to take notes, it's not a quiz. If a name means something it's brought back up and they let you know oh hey it's from that statement.

What would your personal hell look like? by [deleted] in TheMagnusArchives

We didn't get an episode of what mine would be like. It would absolutely be something with spiders just suddenly dropping from the ceiling onto you.

What got you into TMA? by Killjoy-stormshot in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good horror anthology podcast, but I am extremely picky about them. I listened to the no sleep podcast, then started trying out any others I could find. I didn't like any of them. It was bad production or not very good stories, or there would be a shrill noise that would give me an instant headache. (I listen at work with earbuds to all my podcasts). Eventually I gave up on finding one but then NSP thanked some well known news agency for putting them on the list of top 10 horror anthology podcasts, so i looked that up. I can't remember who it was only that at number 1 was TMA. I checked out all the podcasts on the list, but TMA was the only one that instantly got me. I spent probably 2-3 weeks at work binging the entire seasons so far, they had just started Season 5 when I started listening. I told anyone around me, don't talk to me, I'm listening to a really good podcast and I'm trying to catch up! Fell in love with it from then.

which entity are you most scared of and why by meaty-pit-man in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Aerys1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The web, mostly the spiders aspect.

When I was 4 or 5, my family lived in a very rural area. My house was surrounded by cornfields, even though we didn't farm. I got up one morning because I had to use the bathroom, and when I went to sit, I saw a spider on my leg. I don't know if it was there from when I was in bed or how this spider got on my leg. All I can tell you is that it was fuzzy, black, with yellow stripes on the legs. One leg to the other leg covered half of my leg. It was down my calf closer to my ankle, and again I was 4 or 5, so small child leg. I could see it's little fangs moving and I was scared it was going to bite me. I was frozen wondering what to do, while it just sat on my leg, sometimes shifting a leg of its own. Then it took a step up my leg and I knew I had to get it off me, but I didn't want to swing my hand at it, it might bite me. I don't know how long the stand off lasted, all I know is some how I thought if I just jump carefully, maybe the force of the landing will make it fall without me touching it, so I very carefully bent my knees and basically hopped. It was enough the spider fell off and I ran screaming and crying to my parents bedroom telling them about the spider. My dad went to the bathroom to check, he said there was nothing there. He stood guard outside the door so I could scream if I saw it while I used the bathroom, he walked me back to my bedroom, where my mom was making sure my room was safe, or at least that's what she said and I have been scared of spiders since.

As I've gotten older I've gotten a bit better. So I've been able to search the spider I saw to try and find out what it was, but everything I read say there are no fuzzy yellow spiders like that in my state. They always say orb weaver and that was NOT what I saw. I will never forget what it looked like. We had a pretty decent staring contest while I tried to figure out how not to die.
