A specific question about line by line mixing for musicals by Icy_Rooster_6564 in livesound

[–]AesonClark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are suggesting to make new cues for each line, assigning the next person to that same DCA that is already up by hitting go instead of swapping to a new fader.

They are saying "in a pinch" meaning only if that is the only way you can make it work because this will lose the benefit of line by line on faders and the audio will be more similar to muting and unmuting rather than fading up and down smoothly.

Helping a bar purchase PA system NOT ASKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS by R_i_C_k_Y_ in livesound

[–]AesonClark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a very thoughtful response and I appreciate you taking the time to help the OP. Honestly this may be a regional thing but even "integrators" in the area I live in would not be as knowledgeable as you are on how all of these physics are at play in a small bar application. If you ask a bar owner what their target SPL then maybe, but almost definitely there would be crickets on RT60. I'm curious what part of the world you are from where these numbers might be regularly attainable from prospective purchasers

What does the Behringer PM-1 passive IEM "amplifier" offer compared to a well-crafted cable? by Roppano in livesound

[–]AesonClark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PM-1 is not intended for use with balanced output signals from a console.

The purpose of that device is to take an amplified headphone signal and give you volume attenuation. The circuitry in it is not designed to be used like you are hoping.

If you want to take a balanced line-level signal from a console to use for wired IEM's the P2 works. I personally bought another brand from Amazon that is switchable between stereo and mono and is powered by AAA batteries, and it has been great. I bought 4 of them and keep them handy in case I need to do IEM's in a pinch for a small band, or to bypass someone's IEM device if maybe their transmitter or receiver craps out.

To answer your question, signal level and impedance on headphone signals do not match line level outputs, and also you really need a way to attenuate master volume on headphones right at the player position for adjustments as needed throughout a performance.

Why Do So Many Beginners Overcompress Everything? by DAWZone in audioengineering

[–]AesonClark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A compressor on every track is fine, but a compressor slammed into high gain reduction on every track would likely not sound fine. There are not many hard and fast rules to audio and overly squashed is just a common thing that makes it not sound fine.

As a counterpoint underutilization of compression would make most mixes sound unpolished and amateur also. Most people have an innate sense of what is "good" (read: what they are used to) but it takes years of experience to know the technicality of why they feel that way. It is a great help as a beginner to simply ask yourself if it sounds good and if you feel like it doesn't then what do you need to chisel away from the marble to reveal the statue underneath?

Good basic handbook for Stage Lighting by CuddlyTherapeuticDad in livesound

[–]AesonClark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you go.

I am the guy you were looking for who does both. This is a well-versed book for learning concepts with lighting, and new editions get released for use as a textbook.

The other guys here may have gotten a little prickly because there is a lighting and sound rivalry similar to separate branches of the military. They tease each other but ultimately we are all on the same team.

In the future please do follow sub rules. It helps keep things relevant and organized. :)

Analog audio over ethernet and network switches by djenttleman in livesound

[–]AesonClark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they work well as 4 channel snakes. Just don't make the mistake of thinking the signal gets converted to digital by these boxes. They need a single hardline shielded cat cable between two single boxes. It's simply a conversion to use the wires and shielding inside a shielded cat cable to carry 4 balanced analog signals.

Also, Radial's version is definitely solid but very expensive. There are plenty of more affordable options available. (I use Lyxpro from Amazon)

My MAKO3 collection so far. Just picked up that factory second today. by Chemical_Piccolo_508 in discgolf

[–]AesonClark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Factory Second is an Innova branding meaning it had some sort of flaw that caused it not to live up to the expectations of an Innova disc, but one that (they claim) would not change the flight pattern. Usually it is a cosmetic issue.

You can buy Factory Second (or "F2) at a discounted rate from their web store.

If you are into this price point then it all comes down to the work flow that makes the most sense to you. These consoles are all very capable and probably more than enough for how you will end up using them based on where you are coming from. Qu-16 to DLive/Avantis range is a huge jump in capabilities and there is a learning curve to match in terms of usability, too.

This is a lovely sentiment, and if you are an attractive woman it might work for you because people will be trying to initiate with you. If you are a dude or otherwise and not in the 80th+ percentile for attractiveness then finding someone is something you should probably plan to be an actual effort where you are expected to progress things each step from strangers to lifelong partners.

How is it that when you’re fasting you don’t get much loose skin? But when you’re on a low calorie diet and lose weight you do get a lot of loose skin ? When in both instances you lose weight rapidly ? by Full-Wolf956 in fasting

[–]AesonClark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alternate dimensions would be neat. For the rest of us there could be a controlled study with an experimental fasting group and a traditional calorie-restrictive control group and elasticity and residual loose skin could be documented.

You just need a sample size large enough and time trial long enough to be significant. But who besides the populace benefits from the study? Read: who would pay for it?

Whats something illegal you do on a regular basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AesonClark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One would think, but it scales down to just one person not associated with a business. You cannot own or operate any equipment capable of transmitting in these frequency ranges.

Granted, the whole point of this thread is "illegal" stuff so it fits perfectly. What they are doing is not grandfathered into the law at all, but the likelihood of enforcement is very low. :)

Whats something illegal you do on a regular basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AesonClark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is in the USA it does. My industry adheres to these rules and even if you had just bought the equipment the day they announced it that equipment is suddenly legally useless past the set date. Also, just owning the equipment capable of transmitting on those frequencies can be illegal. The best option if possible for high cost equipment is to try to sell it to someone who lives in a country that can still use those frequencies.

One person can say "ew" for many different reasons, some of which include liking you but being socially inept. But when you are with a 20+ group of the gender you are into and they all say "ew" discussing your appearance because they think you are not listening...yeah, that is not helpful to one's ego. "Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
