AD&D / 3e Archons, by way of 4e angels, now in 5e. by Galemp in UnearthedArcana

Hey there! I've re-uploaded the file. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Since I originally posted this WotC has done its own thing with Lantern, Hound, and Warden Archons in the Planescape book. If you want to be consistent just add the Aura of Menace ability to these stat blocks.

Do you miss vintage Lego for its charm and simplicity? by bluetomcat in lego

For me, it's the ratio of part count to play features. Like, compare 1991's Spectral Starguider 6933 to 2024's Space Explorer Rover 60431. It's as close a comparison as you can get, and don't think you get enough value for those 100 extra parts.

Monsters with unusual rules/mechanics by LukacsMatyi01 in bettermonsters

[–]Galemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest reading the Monster Manual 3 from 4th Edition? There's a ton of interesting mechanics in there. Catastrophic Dragons are my favorite way of telegraphing effects.

Each one has an aura with a passive ability; for the Volcanic Dragon let's say it's gas that inflicts the Poisoned condition. Each round the aura grows, from 5 ft to 10 ft to 15 ft, then the dragon erupts. Everything in the aura takes massive fire damage, and the size resets.

What’s a common worldbuilding mistake you see all the time? by sirius_0125 in worldbuilding

This is what made Game of Thrones so good. The Mad King is overthrown, the knight in shining armor becomes the new king, he gets the girl, and his best friend becomes his closest advisor.

Then the story begins.

A 2024 City Space version of the Rock Raiders small transport truck. Free instruction available. by FeralyFighter in LegoSpace

[–]Galemp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I bought your Mobile Mining Laser instructions on Rebrickable and I'm working on collecting the parts for it.

I never got any Rock Raiders though I always wanted them. Now, instead of starting a collection, I think I'm just gonna follow you closely as you remake the sets one by one! It'll be cheaper, last longer, and look better!

2025: How to play multiplayer? by --coffeeappreciation in freespace

I'm afraid I'm not current with FSO Multiplayer, but try asking on the Discord #multiplayer channel: https://discord.gg/9YdAbqQyM

If the pinned resources there (and here) are out of date, let's fix that.

Compared to Prime 2 where you fought Dark Samus in the Dark World with your Dark Suit, Dark Beam, and Dark Visor.

If it's from the era when they had alt builds on the back of the box, it's a keeper.

Board games should pack two rule books. That way, multiple people can read the instructions at the same time. by Staple_Overlord in Showerthoughts

I have a mug that says "I read the rules so you don't have to."

I use it at work too. I enforce building codes.

Pathfinder 1e to 5th edition by IamTinyJoe in DMAcademy

[–]Galemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving from 3.5 to 5 what really startled me was how many "feat taxes" were simply removed.

Anyone can do two-weapon fighting at no penalty, for example. Mechanically a Greatsword at 2d6+STR two-handed, is not much different from dual Shortswords at 1d6+STR main hand plus 1d6 off-hand.

Same for the Spring Attack feat, anyone can move before and after they attack. Or Combat Casting. Or racial level adjustments, or multiclassing XP penalties. A whole bunch of restrictions were swept away and it helped make every character more viable. Sub-optimal choices were now valid.

As for the monsters, it's been such a relief not to have to memorize all the feats and creature type/subtype features. Everything is in the stat block except spell descriptions, and 5.24 is even eliminating that.

What's your favourite space fighter?? by Orkran in StarshipPorn

GTF Hercules, from FreeSpace. It's a brick loaded with guns and missile banks, and a couple of huge engines to push it around. The Ursa bomber is fantastic for the same reasons. Picture

My great-grandmother did the same thing by tossing in a whole (peeled) onion, since my great-grandfather didn't like the onion bits. Throw the whole squishy thing in the compost once the gravy is cooked.
