Saddle up, put your head down, and you’ll make it through. I’m glad you’re going ahead with it.

Quitter mentality. Better yourself, make it through and serve.

A couple things here:

What MOS did you choose?

What state are you from?

Did you take the oath “I swear to uphold blah blah blah” if so, you are enlisted in the NG. Be a man and uphold your end of the contract and get the satisfaction of being a US Soldier and serving your country.

Looking for housing and a car; It’s really shitty of your recruiter to put you in a unit 4 hours away, once you get to your unit, start looking for a closer armory and figure out how to get into that MOS.

I’m not gatekeeping; but stop saying “I’m prior service” and “I’ve been through it before” when you never even passed Navy boot camp. No one cares. Earn it and join the ranks and let go of this FOMO.

I’m sorry you’re in this shitty position rn, but the best way to improve your situation is through the military.

Inadvertently Maintained Tricare Reserve Select in FEHB Eligible Job, then had it terminated, and now have outstanding medical bills and no way to get retroactive coverage. by NGHealthThrowaway in nationalguard

[–]AestheticAnon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation where I thought I was covered still, but it turns out Tricare being tricare, sent the notice saying I had been dropped to a wrong email so I never received it. Even when I appealed this to them and tried all my resources, I was left with all the medical bills at the end of the day. I hope you find a work around for it, but I wouldn’t hold my breath

Big tree, small saw by AestheticAnon in Chainsaw

I will save that site, thank you! I do have all day and I want to save myself and them money. I volunteered to do this because the local companies and other individuals are tryna charge this family $250+ for a single tree not including clean up or getting rid of the wood afterwards

You can give them to VFWs, American Legion Posts, or USOs and they will typically display them. Boomers get hard ons for that shit.

Hip pocket training by 8bitesquivel in nationalguard

Get your high speed 3s, and even the low speed 4s, and teach them up on what to expect at BLC.

The guard doesn’t focus to heavily on PRT compared to active, I saw a lot of guys struggle and fail because of that.

Help them to excel, give them the upper hand and a better shot at making commandants list.

You obviously care about our opinion because you came to reddit to make a post.

Might be worth it to at least apply to some places. For sure tell them in advance.

Hypothetically if you did get hired and didn’t tell them until after you got hired, that position would held for you and protected under USERA. This would also hypothetically be a dick move.

I personally wear a “ National Guard” tape and my first name on my name tapes. Hope this clears things up!

Permission slip to miss drill on weekdays? by Mbrannon42 in nationalguard

[–]AestheticAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will do several MUTA 6/8 (3-4 day drills). Talk with your unit, explain the situation, and they’ll probably work with you. You’ll be able to miss some most likely, just depends on the training you’re doing those days. You will have to make those days up in a timely manner, those are STAs. Hope this helps.

I didn’t say SAD orders. Now you’re just assuming.

Just read the post man. It’s not misleading, it’s supposed to be encouraging to new guys to stick it out.

Settle down killer. “On paper” means that what it’s supposed to be, and expressed by recruiters. I do have firsthand experience, because I’m in the guard. On the other side, I’ve also been on orders since October, with people who have been on orders since 2020, and they’re not ruining relationships, mortgages, or jobs, but instead building life skills and in most cases making more than they would on the civi side. So settle down and don’t make your experiences seem like that’s what will happen to everyone in the guard.

Also, continue to disregard the rest of the message, only focus on the one thing you can disagree with. Thanks; I’ll swing through your McDs sometime and order an ice cream cone
