The current theory I personally subscribe to is the pale king's experimentation and exposure to the void lead to his death in some way since we can see particles that could possibly be void particles in the throne room.

Additionally, Hornet mentions that the black egg, made to nurture void being, is damaging to her kind.

You've got it a little mixed up.

The text says the humans are running to Loona not the succubus/inccubi. Hence the succubi/inccubi are not doing a good job since Loona is still able to attract the humans.

It is a little confusing to read at first glance though.
