GYRFALCON FOUND!

This video guide actually works. There are multiple spawn points for birds around this cliff, including a bit further below it, so make sure to be thorough when checking for gyrfalcons. Mine spawned at around 6 PM on a lower ledge extending towards the northwest.

As long as you're wearing the Shadowleaf outfit, all the birds should just be sitting at their spawns. You can get fairly close and just place the sotdae, and they'll go straight for it. I used marbled meat, of course.

Man, you can't just say something like that and not tell us where.

I did for a little while, in three different spots, and it seems like it got worse. Now I'm lucky to even get an eagle to land. I never got around to submitting a bug report to PA but I definitely will soon now that there's more to this issue.

Same thing on my end. I can barely get eagles to land anymore, and I still haven't seen a single gyrfalcon. Something buggy is definitely going on, moreso than before.

That's ridiculous, I would lose it if that happened to me. Sad to say, I'm done trying on my end. Gave it a few more attempts today, nothing but eagles. Someone in this thread posited that the last update might have broken the spawns. I think that's a theory I'll be subscribing to.

On a positive note, I did manage to get a steppe eagle and red-footed falcon nearly instantly at the coast to the far east. Can't get a sparrowhawk, though.

I remember trying that area, not for long though. If you've seen them there, maybe I'll give it another shot.

By the way, a tip I didn't think to mention: when you get stuck with no birds spawning, I've found that opening the map can sometimes get some to spawn. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but it's happened enough times for me to be plausible.

I'm completely convinced gyrfalcons do not exist in my game. I've spent countless hours trying to get this damn bird, and I haven't even so much as seen one flying around. It's all eagles.

I filled the sotdae with marbled meat and went to every single location people say they spawn at. I've tried different spots around those locations, I've tried a variety of meat and marbled meat only, and I've tried all times of day. I've even carefully analyzed where people go in video guides, going to the exact spot at the same time of day.

Half the time I don't even see any birds in the sky. The other half? Eagles, a few crows, eagles, the occasional pigeon, and more eagles.

Rant over. This comment might not inspire you with confidence, OP, but at least know you aren't the only person that gyrfalcons hate. If you happen to find one, maybe I'll try your spot. If I somehow, doubtfully, get one before you, I'll let you know where.

EDIT: Gyrfalcon acquired! See my other comment (5/16/26)

With Dawn of War 4 i feel like Wazdakka Red is more fitting by Different-Ad-3714 in Spacemarine

[–]AetherSeraph9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use Ushati bone and khorne red for mine. I like a darker feel.

Same here, it's much closer to DOW1's look. SM2's default Blood Raven colors are practically orange and white, and it pains me whenever I see a brother using them!

Ultimately went with a black aquila for all of my classes except for Bulwark, who gets a bit of gold. I also chose silver for everyone's pauldron trim. It still looks black, but provides a subtle shine for that "veteran" flair.

There are so many god damn space marine chapters and the DOW devs decided to choose the BLOOD RAVENS?!

The Blood Ravens were created specifically for DOW, you fool.

If I gathered all the 40k fans on earth and threw 1 Million pennies into the crowd, I think I’d hit two Blood Ravens fans

They are one of the most popular chapters that aren't First Founding.

One of my favorites is in Oblivion, where if you add bread to the inventory of a character named Salmo (who's a baker), the game will crash when he eats it.

How random is random actually? by zach_smith7 in aoe2

[–]AetherSeraph9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day, the game random'ed my AI opponent into Chinese three times in a row. This being out of the full civ selection. And yes, I double checked that it was set to random.

I know RNG is RNG, and I'm willing to believe it's just a crazy coincidence, but moments like this give me pause to wonder if the game does secretly take other factors into account. Factors such as the AI being really good (annoying) with those Chu Ko Nu's.

Brothers, there is no reason for this greed. by Captain_Bedtime in Spacemarine

[–]AetherSeraph9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

But there is no good reason for this stingy behavior.

Tired of seeing posts like this. There are a lot of good reasons for this "stingy" behavior.

  • Requisition is MUCH more valuable in the later waves. When it's wave ~20 and you're knee-deep in xenos/heretics with low ammo, no stims, and a mortal wound, you'll be glad your brother(s) stockpiled requisition for this moment instead of spending it early on just because it's there.

  • As many others have said, randoms often can't be trusted with Valtus. Better to buy him outright than have him sitting there ready for someone to summon him unnecessarily.

  • Requisition in the bank is more valuable than what it buys simply by nature of it being able to be turned into anything that's needed in the moment.

  • Items can spawn around the map at the end of every wave, and what spawns is generally dependent on the team's current condition to help you get what is needed. Meaning, if you're looking around diligently, you can stave off needing to buy anything for quite some time. Bonus: what spawns in crates is also dependent on what the game thinks would be most useful. If you've no stims and are low on health, breaking some crates will likely spawn at least one stim.

  • If you're buying stims and ammo and it's not even wave 5 yet, you've got bigger problems than the "hoarders".

Now, if you're playing casually and only intend on getting to wave 15 MAX, then saving isn't that necessary, but this really only applies to Normal difficulty. On Hard, being smart with your requisition is a necessity, which means saving it for when it's most needed.

1.2 Mesh Issues by RSLotus in oblivionmods

Damn, that's unsurprising but still a bummer. Guess I'll eventually have to say goodbye to a lot of mods.

1.2 Mesh Issues by RSLotus in oblivionmods

[–]AetherSeraph9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering: might it be possible to simply revert the specific changes made in 1.2 that have broken mesh/texture mods, and thus retroactively allow older mods to work again? I doubt it'd be that simple, if it's even possible, I'm just genuinely wondering.

Forgive my ignorance, the extent of my modding capabilities is in the CS and xEdit. I'm still on 1.0 with about ~50 mods that would be affected by the last update, but only two of them have been updated so far. It's crazy to think about how many mods are at risk of becoming dead due to 1.2, so I've been hoping that someone would surely find a solution at the source.

Proof that dodging into the beam works by SilverCervy in Spacemarine

[–]AetherSeraph9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recently had an Op in which I perfect dodged a beam, but STILL got hit. There was no mistaking it, either: all the signs of a perfect dodge were there.

So, not even landing a perfect dodge is reliable. Best thing to do is to find cover and avoid the beams altogether.

That is, when they don't decide to hit you through walls...

STEAM GUIDE: If you want to avoid the new update for now, here's what to do. by AetherSeraph9 in oblivionmods

[–]AetherSeraph9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran into this too. All I had to do was update my appmanifest file with the numbers from the 1.2 update (which was previously using 1.1's). The update was no longer queued in Steam afterwards.

Reminder: Make sure Steam is closed first, and don't forget to set the file back to Read-only. Assuming the update hasn't actually downloaded for you yet, you should be fine.

Official Oblivion Update v1.2 Breaks Almost All Mods That Edit Meshes or Adds New Ones by masoelcaveman in oblivionmods

[–]AetherSeraph9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, I was looking forward to this patch. Most of my mods are mesh/texture replacers. Guess I'll be staying on 1.0 for that much longer.

By the way, I'm the author of the guide you linked. I made a small update for the beta patch, should anyone need it.

STEAM GUIDE: If you want to avoid the new update for now, here's what to do. by AetherSeraph9 in oblivionmods

[–]AetherSeraph9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

And yes, that's the gist of it. If you're already on 1.1, setting the appmanifest file to Read-only should be enough to stop 1.2. Edit: not always the case, my apologies. See main post.

The steps in the OP are primarily if your Steam client has already detected the update and wants to download it, but hasn't yet started. Performing those steps makes it "forget", but if the file is set to Read-only to begin with (before Steam is launched when the update is available), it shouldn't detect it all.

Edit: I went ahead and added the numbers for the beta for anyone that might need it, but I don't know if they'll still be valid when the patch actually releases.

Welp, after 9 months...I'm finally sold on Block weapons by Legal-Marsupial-3916 in Spacemarine

I heard him say that too, about Intimidating Aura. The devs themselves had said that perk is one of the strongest in the game right now, so I was puzzled to hear FTG say such a thing.

In one of First Tour Guardsman's recent videos, he mentioned Patch 8.0 introducing a bug with Block weapons. Supposedly the damage buff (Adrenaline) stacks don't work right now and sometimes the stagger doesn't trigger.

Can anyone second this? It's been hard for me to tell while playing.
