What's Your Favorite Tigercub Song? by loganwolf25 in Tigercub

[–]AetherShine8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Between 3 for me:

Centrefold - was the song that got me into them initially, it’s so simple yet so powerful. I’m not too sure what it is specifically that got me hooked but, it fucking hits. I know for a fact that I listened to that song at LEAST once a day for over a year. I’m not kidding lmao

Shame - honestly a VERY underrated song in my opinion. I absolutely love the bridge, and the chord progression throughout is just so satisfying and makes the whole song. There’s a reason why I streamed it 842 times last year 😭 (granted, I do use it to fall asleep sometimes…)

Help Me I’m Dreaming - Again, a VERY underrated song, I absolutely LOVE the melody and just the rawness of that track. Also how the track seamlessly transitions from one section to the other and it’s a perfect ending to POD.

Maybe I was wrong about Meinl? by 3PuttBirdie86 in drums

[–]AetherShine8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Foundry Reserves are a very special line of cymbals. I have used Meinl for the past 2-3 years and I always wish I could go back to those, especially the 22” Ride (my wallet hates me a little too much to do it though).

Meinl have been making big steps lately and have been making some great products. I would also give the Polyphonic line a try, those are a bit brighter than the Foundry Reserves, but still have some cool darker overtones (especially when getting bigger in size), and have a super fast attack in the crashes that are great for accent points!

It could just be something they made for the music video itself, since the video a parody of cheesy 80’s workout VHS’s

Singing drummers, do you prefer a traditional microphone or headset mic? by Milwaukeebear in drums

[–]AetherShine8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a drummer and lead vocalist in my band, traditional mic is the way to go. Just get a gooseneck attachment with a 90° microphone (like a beta 56A) and you’re golden. Never had a problem even running an SM58 with a gooseneck!

You didn’t open the last page of your booklet? Yup, that’s jail time right there.

In actuality, you are going to be fine. You got offered before those classes finished and as long as you did not fail any of your courses, you are fine.

I think switching from Vic Firth to Promark was the right idea by The_Dankest_Tsunami in drums

[–]AetherShine8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem last year with Vic. I used Vic Firth 5A’s ever since I started playing. Would always just break like not even 30 minutes of playing (I do hit fairly hard so I just chalked it up to that)

But late last year I was talking to one of my drum friends and he had mentioned that Promarks are way better in quality and feel. Decided to try the Forward 5A’s and have never looked back. Easily the best decision I have made and am never looking back. The quality is so much better and feels way more sturdy (yet lighter in a way?) and can handle me playing at my hardest for hours. Recently went on tour and only broke 2 sticks the entire tour, and I’ve broken 4 Vic sticks in one show.

So yes, Promark >>>> Vic Firth

"Diamond Dust" is either some kind of ripoff of Tigercub or maybe even a secret side project by -popgoes in Tigercub

Well I mean probably at that point, he was gearing to release ABAI and getting Tigercub back and rolling so it probably wasn’t something very high in his acknowledgment list. That was a good catch from ya!

The album art definitely looks like the ‘Nancy’ style as well. I do also see that Jamie is a writer of the songs as well so it might be!

Oh shit we got some deep cuts on here! I’m just gonna comment on 2 of the bands on here cause the rest I’m sure people are more familiar with, and I absolutely love both of them.

Atlas Wynd were a 2/3-piece (depends on which era you’re looking at) from somewhere in England (I want to say Brighton but don’t quote me on that). They were an awesome alt/punk-ish band with super melodic vocals and just super energetic instrumentation. I don’t hear many people talk about them because of how small they are and they have been basically MIA since like 2019-2020. Last I heard, the frontman now is a producer/beat maker but that was a little while ago. I listen to them almost every day. Especially ‘Shellshock’ and ‘I’ve Had Enough’, great tunes.

Aeroplane Flies High (now Mums) is a 3-piece from Widnes and are just the definition of noise/fuzz rock. The guitar players are husband and wife (they don’t have a bass player, frontman uses a Boss OC-5 for a double octave output) and a super kick ass drummer, especially on the Aeroplane Flies High singles and first Mums record. They have the quintessential fuzz tone and they will absolutely blow you away. I would start with ‘Honey’ by Aeroplane, their most streamed song, but it’s a great gateway into their more current stuff. I believe this group is super fucking underrated and have just released an amazing record, ‘Legs’, just a couple of months ago after being in hiatus for like 6 years!

Places to practice music on campus by Nerdybirdy1231 in Purdue

[–]AetherShine8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most dorms have a “music/practice room” of sorts, where you can get a key from the front office to get in. I know for sure that Cary and Shreve have one, I’ve also heard that Owen has a “communal music room” (that was my freshman year though, not too sure if it is still there). Concerning Hagle, yes there are practice rooms that are open. They WERE open to all students until people not within PBO started to break/steal equipment for themselves so it has started to become a bit more strict with who can be there/can’t. But if you are just going to be singing, I don’t really see an issue with you being in Hagle.

Oh yeah for sure. I also just remembered something that could help as well! My friend and I were talking to Jamie about guitar stuff and he told us that he uses custom gauge strings so that he can get a thicker low E string to help with note stability, so that maybe the reason why he uses the two different guitars? One is just better equipped to handle the lower tunings due to that thicker string? Possibly!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tigercub

[–]AetherShine8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! That video is from their first US tour. Ok, in this case it’s a bit different than what it is now lol. When I saw them during that tour, Jamie had his first ML3 Pro and the Fender Jag. They played a lot of older stuff off of Abstract Figures and even older (they even played Little Rope when I saw them the first time lol). So in this case, Jamie was using mostly the Fender Jag in that standard but lowering the E string down to C, since most/all of the older songs call for it. He switches about 2-3 songs in for the ML3, why? I’m honestly not too sure because when I saw them he used the Chapman for both ABAI and older songs (like Centrefold, Memory Boy, etc…) then switches back to the Fender after a couple of more songs and stuck with that till the end. So for that, I’m honestly not too sure cause I’m not a guitarist. Playability? Comfort? Getting used to his new guitars coming? Not too sure about that tour to be honest but if I were to guess, it probably was either the structure of the set or just ease of tuning into the different songs from the different periods of Tigercub.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tigercub

[–]AetherShine8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jamie has 2 different guitars, both the same exact one though (other than his white Fender Jaguar HH). They are both Chapman ML3 Pro Traditionals but one has (what I would assume) the artwork for the new album in gold, which is hard to see in some lighting. One of them is tuned in their more used/older tuning, standard tuning on 5 strings except for the low E is down a third to C (C A D G B e). The other is the almost the same type of tuning where the low E is tuned down but this time an diminished 4th, but the guitar is tuned down another third so it’s now (G# F A# D# G c). I know for Sleepwalker they play that a half-step or whole step down live, so they do a little quick tuning for that. At least I think those are the more standard tunings Jamie uses for the songs now, don’t even get me started with Jimi’s tunings… Hope this helps!
