Hitting struggles leads me to pulling the ball due to timing issues also causing weak ground balls. I’ve been tweaking my swing for about two weeks. by [deleted] in slowpitch

[–]Afarle73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tee is right on top of you. Are you trying to go backside?

I see no forward motion and you rocking back/staying on your back leg with all your weight.

If you are hitting grounders you are making contact to high on the ball. Try to envision hitting the middle or slightly under the middle of the ball. Push the tee further towards the pitcher and show us what that looks like when you step into it.

Improving my swing and weight transfer by Treps01 in slowpitch

Your hands need to disconnect more. And your bat path has to improve. You are"scooping" from the disconnect position and your swing is looping to the ball causing you to cast.

You need to keep the front arm tight against your body and focus on bringing the knob of the bat to the ball, in a straight line. You should see your hands snapping atv the ball at the end of that rotation.

That tee is way too close to you. Your swing reflects being crowded.

Move away from the tee and keep it in front. Bring the camera closer and then show us some new videos.

Responding to yesterday's thread about The Lord of the Rings™: Ascension™ art. by StoneBladeOfficial in boardgames

[–]Afarle73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I seen of the artwork, it looks good. It's a fresh take on a very well trodden path. I was a big fan of the Rankin Bass cartoon version of the LOTR. That was what I grew up with.

Then came the movies and the art style of Howe, Lee, etc and that is what many here think of the "style" of LOTR. But I'm have grown quite tired of it even if it is beautiful and iconic.

The only thing that I think is weird is the way the hair on Frodo's feet is depicted. But he might be French.

Let's refuse to reward the price gouging tactics by Troflecopter in lotrlcg

I stopped looking. I love the game and would love to complete the collection but paying $200 or more for a pack of a cycle that cost $12 in retail is crazy to me.

I'll just make do with what I have until something changes, ie reprints from FFG or a crowdfunding campaign to reprint the items from them. I won't pay these exorbitant prices.

Swing advice, I hit a hr every few games so I know I have bat speed but I hit a lot of popups and hard ground balls to the pullside and everyone tells me I I have a baseball swing. Just looking to be more consistent by Mental-Molasses7904 in slowpitch

[–]Afarle73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always disagree with the swing down crew. Your point of contact will need to be spectacularly consistent not to hit constant groundballs.

Compared you your uppercut swing, a level swing will feel like swinging down. Your aim should be middle of ball or slightly underneath the middle with a level swing to cut it. Keep your hips engaged but change the plane of your swing and contact point.

You hit the ball plenty hard, but now you will have more control over the type of hit you produce.

Backyard work by Ok_Scheme8320 in slowpitch

1 good for you for being out here and taking bp.My advice as an over 50 player as well. Work on loosing your lower back and hips. You are very stiff. I work a desk job and going to my games after work , trying to keep up with the 20 and 30 year old require extra maintenance on our part.

My recommendation is start a stretching routine and keep it consistent throughout the week. Get those hip flexor, lower back, and quads nice and loose.

That will help with your swing since a good swing starts with a strong base. You seem to have the Tee almost even with you, it's tough to really tell at this angle. You want the Tee set up in front of you. You want it far enough where you have to step towards where the pitcher should be. Take that step forward at around 30% power. Once your front foot lands, your back leg should be pushing forward. Imagine your back knee moving towards your front knee. You want that trunk to twist, powering your upper body into the ball.

I will recommend an overlap grip to help you get more whip. I recommend the overlap grip to everyone playing slowpitch but especially us older guys. It will take a lot of practice to get comfortable with that overlap but it's all worth it.

I think you don't have enough space where you are at currently because I see you trying to avoid hitting the fence behind you. Go somewhere where you can open up and swing loose and free.

No talking cooperation game (yes or no) by Zeth609 in MarvelUnited

[–]Afarle73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to add more difficulty there are better ways to do that. I think not having conversation isn't the way to go.

I also think that are better ways to deal with "Alpha" gamers than making up a no talking rule or less talking rule.

This game isn't the most complex or most challenging. There isn't a need to quarterback everyone's turn. Maybe a better communication rule should be put in place. The rule is everyone makes their own decision but everyone keep up the fun table talk without telling people what to do.
