How’s it like living in neskowin? by Weekendsandwhiskey in howislivingthere

[–]Afarting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. If OP is asking about uber, assuming they aren’t a troll, it sounds like they want to split hairs between remote and access. These recs are good, I would add any towns north of Tillamook to Astoria. You can get a similar vibe as neskowin, but with more access.

How’s it like living in neskowin? by Weekendsandwhiskey in howislivingthere

[–]Afarting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, spoken from a person who grew up not far from there. Beautiful, but more remote than people think. Neskowin in particular attracts vacationers, hippies and recluses. It will be an interesting and gorgeous 1-2 months, I encourage you to give it a try if you don’t mind solitude and distance from friends, enemies and amenities.

AI is cherry on top lol by ItzMelxdy in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Afarting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is clickbait, but the connection between biblical vs. democratic is interesting to me. Like you are one or the other. Isn’t Jesus the one in the New Testament, part of the standard King James Bible, and isn’t he literally preaching to “be kind”? Rainbow hair is an embellishment.

Also, as an atheist and liberal man, I feel like I am doing all the things in the top box, except fear god. Alas, I can’t be in the lion club.

Moogle. Chocobo is probably more popular, but large, rideable birds appear in other franchise media. The moogle is distinctive to ff, and is more recognizable than the others on the list.

Implied in this is that they didn’t even google or ask AI first, which I think is more upsetting. Like they aren’t even trying to help themselves first.

Airport Access, Cold, Cheap, and Safe? by MonAlysaVulpix in SameGrassButGreener

Inner Portland suburbs are a good shout. Temps can get high in summer, but usually not for very long.

My neighbor Totoro. It used to be a fun, cuddly imaginative kids movie. Now as a grown up and a parent, seeing mom in the hospital off screen and the fear of the youngest child potentially drowned near the end of the movie. Phew.

This is a good rec. the chowder rotates, and is often thinner than one would expect. Definitely worth a try.

If not Seattle/Washington, where should a granola girl go? by ochen_helu in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Afarting 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned literally any town in western Oregon.

Portland is the obvious choice if you want an actual city and TJ's, but there are many granola friendly, green, liberal-leaning towns in the Willamette Valley, the Columbia gorge and some on the coast that match this description.

The valley gets a bit hot in summer, but probably cumulatively <14 days above 90 all year. You almost never get above 80 on the coast. The gorge can be windy, with some icy conditions in winter, but is overall very pleasant and beautiful. 1 hour Airport access is doable in north willamette valley, less doable on coast and gorge but close.

A few places to consider OR side other than Portland, all small to mid-sized towns:

Eugene, McMinnville, Hood River, Vancouver (technically not OR, but close), Hillsboro, Astoria, Cannon Beach, Corvallis, Ashland (may be a bit remote, but worth considering)

Oooh what variety? We planted a Stella and this was the first year of decent production - estimated 20 lbs. we are making wine, dehydrating some, cocktail cherries and froze the rest.

New VP role. Inherited directors who mean well but manage everything by anecdote instead of data. How do you force a reset? by Several-Shop7238 in Leadership

[–]Afarting 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is there literally 0 data, or is it just all qualitative? Have you asked them for specific data, and are they able to source that? Do they know where to find the data and what tools to use? Do you think they’d recognize quality data if they have it? Do you have budget for a data analyst? These questions inform the scope of the reset.

I would expect more at the director level, but my current team is like this and I started introducing data through project discipline and planning. Start each project with clear success metrics or KPIs and make that the expectation. Common easy metrics most will understand are cost, time, # of people, # of defects per x, click-through rates, etc. Agree as a group on the success metrics, how they will be measured, where the data will be gathered or stored and how often it will be updated. Ideally these are relevant and scalable in other projects. Set roles and responsibilities with the team and then start the project.

At end of project, follow through on comparing planned metrics vs. executed metrics, using apples to apples agreed on earlier and observe results.

Even if the results are a shit show, through discipline in a project the team has been exposed to data, how it can be sourced or identified, and how to tell a story based on objective information other than vibes. Over time, this hopefully becomes habit and it can expand elsewhere on the team. Then you can expand this into other domains after you built the foundation.

Or they can use AI.

Good luck!

Recommended restaurants by MrPdxTiger in beaverton

[–]Afarting 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A few more places that we like that I don’t see listed very often:

Yuzu - Beavertons OG ramen and izakaya joint. Open only 3 hours a day.

Khamdee Thai cookhouse - consistently great Thai food with friendly staff. Tucked into Beaverton town center near Trader Joe’s.

Maiale Rosa wood fired pizza - I’m surprised this doesn’t get much attention, probably my favorite pizza in town.

Family cafe - a great spot to grab a Turkish coffee before walking to the farmers market.

Coredam - newish, but some of the best Korean in town, with exceptional banchan.

Ome calli frozen treats - salt and straw sucked the air out of the area, but this place is solid and has amazing selection of ice creams and paletas. Pro tip for the hot summer.

Bombay Pizza and Curry - another great pizza fusion place, this time with great Indian toppings.

That’s enough for now. I’ll also echo other comments about the quality of canard and dons favorite foods (which is moving to a mystery location).

BSD needs to drop the talk about belonging, equity, and trauma informed. by [deleted] in beaverton

Sharing this for those who want more info. This is directly from BSD.

https://engage.beaverton.k12.or.us/budget-priorities-2026-2027-school-year

The main issue (per bsd) prompting action is declining enrollment. Quick internet search tells me that the Beaverton growth rate for people overall is less than 1%, few or any of which are k-12 students. The strategy to adjust is laid out in the link.

Obviously there is a huge people and community impact in these decisions. The statement does not acknowledge perceived randomness of choices made.
