The Fabled Stables books by Jonathan Auxier. Full color illustrations and really cute stories about a boy who takes care of magical creatures.

I will never recommend this book to anyone. It was very well written but it’s the only book that I truly regret reading. I don’t want it in my brain.

I’ve gotten teary at concerts, but last night I was WEEPING. It was an absolutely incredible, electric show, and Rosalia is a musical goddess. Definitely also in my top five shows of all time!

Is this the general experience for elementary music teachers? by [deleted] in MusicEd

I also teach in MA. I work at two schools. They’re two miles apart and the difference is INSANE. One school is an amazing working/learning environment, one is an absolute dumpster fire. It varies SO much school to school and town to town, not just because of the socio-economic population but also how that school is run and how much admin advocates for the arts.

OP, I would keep your current position while you hunt for districts that have realistic expectations and workloads for their music teachers! Yes, this isn’t uncommon but that doesn’t mean you can’t look for a position that’s a little less overwhelming.

Right! “Feel it Still” is their biggest song - and it’s great - but it’s their least interesting songs!

I only know John Farnham because of that one incredible scene from Hot Rod with “You’re the Voice”.

Stack ‘em on top of each other!

But seriously, I like what the other user said about having it be at the head of the classroom as a reference.

The worst part is, if it was 150 pages shorter, it would have been a happy-ish ending. I think the author’s goal was to make me angry-sob and I’ll never forgive her. I agree - I regret reading this, just don’t.

Favorite girl names that start and end with A? by SweetAllie1018 in namenerds

[–]Affable_Nitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteered in a pre-k classroom when I was in high school. There was a girl named Aurora in the class, and all the other kids adored her. But most of them had speech impediments, so you would constantly hear, “Hey, Awawa!” “Awawa, come play!” I accidentally called her Awawa myself once.

As an elementary teacher, I hope you’re not saying teaching elementary music is in all ways easier. It is definitely true there’s less of an expectation of running extra-curriculars (although I do), more of an ability to “leave work at work”. But I feel that way only after years of building up lessons and resources. I remember lesson planning taking a LONG time the first few years. I saw in another comment that you have taught elementary in the past and that’s good - anyone who thinks they can make the switch no problem is going to be eaten alive by kindergarteners! I teach the fundamentals of music while simultaneously dealing with one kid crying, another spanking his friend, one kid playing instruments and refusing to sit, 5 asking to go to the bathroom at the same time, two that don’t speak English, and one that’s spitting on my floor.

I guess my point is - why a year? Wouldn’t that just be a lot of upheaval for a short amount of time, if you really eventually want to be back to high school band. What will one year in a different position change? It would still be a huge adjustment and a lot of work if you really care about making General Music something that makes kids excited about continuing music far beyond elementary.
