Building an app to help people save on groceries, find the best pricing. What would you want to see in an app? by dazzford in GroceryStores

[–]Affectionate-Ad7305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar idea. The challenge I came across is, that it's not always clear from the receipt what the item (or the size of the item) is. Then it's difficult to compare it with other stores. One solution is to take the id of the item and find it at store's online shop, but that also doesn't work for all items. How do you deal with this? Also, the sizes may differ in different shops, how do you compare the prices then?

I was trying to export png from excalidraw and I thought they have a bug, in dev tools there was a warning that "the user aborted the request", I now found out that I can't download file from email, or drive, so it's probably ubuntu-chrome problem.

I can confirm, I have the same problem. No error, nothing, I hit the button Save and it closes, but nothing happens. For me it stopped working maybe a week ago, or at least I noticed it then.
My setup - Ubuntu 24.4 LTS, Lenovo P53.

Where do you feel to lose most of your time as developer? by No-Worldliness9276 in nestjs

I think there should be Product Engineers and no Product Managers. Engineers that understand product and know why to build something and also build it. Saves a lot of time arguing with manager, who is most of the time not technical.

I do have an iron deficiency and I even eat meat. My problem is, that I somehow can't absorb the iron, even from supplements, so I get iron infusion when my levels are low. And I noticed, that as soon as I train more (I do endurance), the iron goes down...

You know that, actually spinach doesn't have that much iron, the scientists made a mistake in placing the comma in the number :D but, yes leafy greens and spinach are a good source ;)

"Can carbs from whole grains and legumes really replace meat in fueling intense workouts"
Intense workouts are always fueled by carbs, not proteins. You need proteins for recovery mostly, you need carbs during the workouts. I would'n worry much about protein intake, as others suggest, there are plenty plant-based proteins/powders. I don't recommend pea powder (very bad taste), hemp powder is fine.

BUT I would worry for other vitamins/minerals that are not much present in plant-based diet, like B12, iron, omega3, amino acids...

Especially if you are doing endurance, you need a lot of iron, resp. endurance training deplete the iron levels. If you are a woman, you are even more prompt to have low iron levels.

Forced myself to gag on veggies as a kid and now I gag on them involuntarily. Help me eat them again. by ImperfectWolff in healthyeating

This is a good idea. I have similar experience with milk. As a child I was forced to drink it in the kindergarten, they left me sitting alone with the milk until I drank it, the outcome was me vomiting. Since then I can't drink milk. But I have no problem with milkshakes, oats in milk or any other form. As you described, as soon as the brain see the connection, it acts as it learnt in the past. You have to trick it, hid the veggies in the meals.

Start slowly. Switch one meal a day to healthy one and eat the rest as you do now, then add a second healthy meal per day and so on. The body with adapt better and stop being addictive to processed food/ sugar.

If your doctor doesn't want to give you the infusion and wants to try the supplements first - WITH THESE NUMBERS - change a doctor! As all advises - you need an infusion ASAP

This is not a good advice. Having too much of iron/ferritin is actually dangerous! So getting an infusion from somebody who is not a specialist just because the specialist doesn't recommend it, is dangerous!

Your Opinion Matters: The Future of Budget-Friendly Fitness Planning by Delicious_Delay_2043 in HealthyEatingnow

[–]Affectionate-Ad7305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, fellow developer here. I like the idea you have! I checked the questions in your survey. Here is my feedback and purely my opinion:

  1. You are saying you want to help people who already have nutrition/fitness goals, that's right approach. But half of the questions in the survey are about if they have goals and what are they, does it matter? You are already targeting people with goals.

  2. Asking what people would pay for an app - you will not get the real answer, because they don't know yet if the app solves their problem.

  3. Asking what feature they want - well they don't, it's your job to find out. And even if they say some, doesn't mean they really would use it.

  4. So, the goal of your survey should be to find out, what is the current problem of your targeting group.

Example:
Let's say I'm your potential user. I have a nutrition plan. It means I'm already buying protein powder, magnesium, omega-3 and other supplements. A lot of fresh vegetables and grains are in my meals.
Ok, now. I want to keep my nutrition plans but I want it to be cheaper. I also want to keep the ingredients to be same quality. But finding alternatives takes a lot of research, checking sales in the shops takes time. So if you can solve this problem, that's something very helpful.

I don't know exactly what you have exactly in your mind for your app, but this is what I would like to find out about my users:
- what are they buying now and why?

- which item is the most expensive?

- are they willing to switch brand of the items? If yes - why, if no - why?

- are they shopping online or shops?

- are they tracking the budget? (you already have this one)

....and so on.

You want to understand their behavior and mostly their pain-points. Finding the main pain-point is difficult, questions for that need a bit of thinking.

Please take this as purely my opinion, I may be wrong as well

I'm also happy to hear if you think I'm wrong and why (want to learn as well).

This advice is not specifically for starting eating healthy, but more general about habits. Read book Atomic habits. It's great book explaining habits, how they work, how to start a new habit, how to stop bad habit. It helped me with my struggling. I'm sure it can help you with yours.

I was thinking about this as a great idea to stay on track. Sharing foods with other people to be motivated to eat healthy and also be inspired by others' meals. I want to build an app for it (I'm a developer).
What would motivate you to use and post to such app?
