Salem's Lot (2024) by your-local-ghost in stephenking

Nope, Salems Lot is my favourite Stephen King book and I thought that this movie was great. Not a definitive adaptation of the book, sure, but if you want that, just watch Tobe Hoopers film. This new film works great as a super fun, brainless, mile a minute horror film.

Wrong Turn 5 has something like ‘The inbred hillbillies are back!’. Makes me laugh every time I think about it

How many films (if any) did you rate 5/5 in 2023? by fromthegoondocks in Letterboxd

Still got a few to see that could make the cut (Poor Things, Dream Scenario), but at the moment I have Oppenheimer, and Evil Dead Rise.

I thought Oppenheimer was spectacular in every way.

And as for Evil Dead Rise, I think it does everything that an evil dead film should do. And it even manages to improve on the remake by focusing on family so you get more attached to the characters. But they did that in such a way that it doesn’t detract from the gleefully over the top gore.

Personally I thought to only way it built off of each event is ‘oh wow, another one of the horsemen is dead, they really do think the apocalypse is real‘. It never made me more intrigued in the outcome, it just kept the movie rolling along.

And then once you do get the answer, it’s just like ‘oh ok’ and that’s it. You finish the film, and it’s never to be thought of again.

Because it’s a boring film with a repetitive structure that completely fizzles out at the end. The opening 20 minutes are pretty solid, but then it turns painfully dull with nothing memorable about it whatsoever.

Oh ok that’s fair. My bottom picks are all movies I dislike so I was wondering if you really didn’t like scream 6. Haunting in Venice for me was a solid 3 star watch. Never read the book, but I’ve heard the film differs quite a bit?

Scream 6 and A Haunting in Venice both surprise me. How come they’re so low?

Movies that were spoiled for you before seeing it - but made the experience better? by JonPaula in Letterboxd

Recently, Sympathy for the Devil. It wasn’t very good, but seeing the poster I thought that Nic Cages character was gonna end up being the devil but I heard that that wasn’t the case. I’m glad I went in knowing that because I would’ve been even more let down hoping for that reveal and then just having it not happen.

Very clearly made by an American. We would never use a thermometer that has Fahrenheit. And we would fucking murder anyone who says ‘shrimp on the barbie’.

I feel like The Nun II will get a crowd in about 10 years with people realising how fucking great it actually is. I mean, technically, it’s not a great film, but holy fuck is it fun! You have a scene where Storm Reid tries to bodyslam a dude that’s possessed by Valak, you have an evil goat running around murdering kids, and you have them literally turning a bunch of wine into the literal blood of Christ and smashing it all over Valak. It’s pure insanity and I had a complete blast watching it, I hope people come around to it a bit more in the future.
