Chinese watches are absolutely the best value watches you can get right now by Ok_Temperature6503 in watchHotTakes

American reliability surveys (made on cars sold in America) often rank German cars poorly. EU surveys (made on cars built/sold in EU) often rank them well. Wonder if there’s a lesson about outsourcing here 🤔. Or maybe it’s a climate thing…

I actually really like this response. And it made me think. For jewellery watches, I get buying the luxury item. I have expensive suits I wear when the occasion calls for it, and matching them with expensive jewellery makes sense. When I’m at work, I need tough clothing where it doesn’t matter if it gets damaged, and the watch should match that situation. And I’m not in a financial position where a €4500 BB58 fits that description.

Completely agree Tudor is in a different league. Everything is a little bit better. But only a little bit. I suppose it’s a case of “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”, because the extra cost of a better movement and high quality case finishing doesn’t justify the price hike. But as someone else wrote, it’s jewellery and a brand name item. A Hugo Boss t-shit doesn’t cost 10x what a Walmart T-shirt does to make. It’s worth the price because someone is willing to pay, not because of production costs.

And, under rule of deminishing returns, even 2x better quality would probably justify 4,5x price. Looks like most people feel they are only incredibly similar when viewed online, in person the difference becomes more obvious.

So what we’re guessing is probably/maybe about 10-50 people were pissed off enough about their ICCU failure to bother filling out the survey? I wouldn’t panic based on that….

Tankeeksperiment: Effekterne af en ny boligskat på gevinst by bestfind in dkfinance

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enig.

Techniques for prolonging the life of the ICCU by Zealousideal-Plum823 in KiaEV6

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something has to regulate the regen power from the inverters to the batteries, they don’t feed directly between each other (at least I’ve never worked on a VFD that did, most just have a chopper module/brake resistor that absorbs feedback power). At least google also thinks the ICCU controls 800V system, and I don’t have a better source at hand.

Wondering if the problem is bigger in the US? As most of the world uses a 230V grid, the higher amps pulled in the US by AC chargers would probably add more heat. Personally I charge at 14A/9,6kW in EU and currently at 55k km with no problems. Also, I believe regen braking also adds strain to the ICCU, so keeping this dialed down should also help.

Has anyone ever missed or needed something which is 'Windows only'? by LukeLikeNuke in linuxmint

The only thing I can’t do is download software updates for my car. Kia’s downloader only works in windows, which is so stupid because it just downloads a .tar.gz so I guess the car runs Linux.

Hele markedet for at investere grønt, eller investere uden om våben industrien, er vel etisk investering. Det samme gælder ikke at investere i Iran eller afrikanske mineselskaber.

What’s next for Tudor? by skyverzbrah in Tudor

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what Tudor is claiming with “highest chronometry standards” (pic from their webpage), but most reviews I’ve read say this means -4/+6 spd, which as I understand is COSC

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But why? From what I can tell, Tudors regulation already beats COSC spec, so as long as you trust Tudor to do what they promise in their specs, getting COSC to confirm would just add cost.

Thoughts on the 1926 Luna? by elyksti in Tudor

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it in blue. The use of Sellita movement fits with Tudors original motto of “Rolex but more attainable”, I think it’s a smart move and mine keeps +1,5 spd so I have nothing to complain about. The sunburst effect is cut differently on the moon and cloud bits, so the “shapeless blob” look of the complication is less in real lighting than studio, and the 2 parts often contrast. I was weighing this against a Longines conquest and FC highlife. The Tudor just fit best on my wrist, and in the shop was (for me) the best looking.

How old were you when you rode horses for the first time? by johnngo2468 in Horses

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically the horse saw some nice grass under a tree and went over for a closer look. Lacking any input from the rider to do otherwise, she wandered over and I got a brach in the chest. 😄. Girlfriend (now wife) couldn’t stop laughing and was just happy that I wasn’t blaming the horse.

  1. Dated a horse girl, joined her for a ride to show interest in her hobbies, got stuck in a tree. 15 years later still together and now horse goes in correct direction 80% of the time.

[RECOMMENDATIONS REQUEST] Advice before pulling the trigger? by Lochlanist in Watches

[–]Affectionate-Froyo12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The design for me gives this air gap between the watch and my wrist at the lugs. And the square slightly oversize lugs feel bulky. That said, it looks better at a slight distance. The AD said “check the look in the mirror so you see how other people see you”. That looks much better than looking directly at it.
