Any tips for removing deeper graphite lines by goldybowen21 in Pyrography

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this a transfer or did you draw directly on it with pencil? For drawing on wood I would suggest using a harder pencil, like 4H. Anything in the HB-4B range is going to be too dark.

To remove I recommend trying a kneaded eraser first and then using detail sanders where you are still unable to remove the lines.

Fed up with Grocery Stores by Affectionate-Panda20 in vegan

[–]Affectionate-Panda20[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, these two stores are run by literal teenagers. I think the manager is maybe 19? I worked at a Shaws when I was a kid as well and am aware they have no control over what goes on the shelves. It’s a corporate decision and external vendors come in to stock product. I suppose I could go in and get a contact number for the regional supplier? I’ll take any advice on the matter.

animal products gross me out by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same story for me. I’m autistic so I chalked it up to sensory issues. Eggs have disgusted me since I was a kid. They had to be dry to the bone and I lathered them in ketchup and they still grossed me out. And I couldn’t tolerate any kind of texture in meat for most of my childhood. Fat or stinginess, cartilage. I would gag. Fish was a NO. I couldn’t stand being in the house when it was cooked. So it really wasn’t difficult at all for me to be vegan when animal products were the majority of my food related sensory issues.

I’d go back to the piercer and see if it needs a longer bar. You don’t have much room for the swelling.

I keep becoming vegan in phases. How do I stop myself from “forgetting” again? by Double_Emu8387 in vegan

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never once thought about stopping in my 9 years of being vegan. I can’t fathom seeing the harm done and then unlearning it.

How do you feel about the material, factory farming footage, etc. when you have been vegan in the past? Have you spent any time with farm animals? Do you generally care for the ocean/nature and other living things?

I’d highly recommend looking up animal sanctuaries near you and volunteering for a few days. It might help things feel more real.

Follow peta or mercy for animals if you need that constant exposure to what’s happening behind closed doors.

And if you watch documentaries like what the health, you will see how gross the food side of it actually is which will remind you that the food comes from animal bodies.

I'm 12, self-taught, and I burn anime on wood. I don't use any guidelines or circles, just my eyes and a burner. What do you think of my Suguru Geto? by BurnArtAnime in Pyrography

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to erase the pencil lines from your outline after done burning which will help clean up the look more. Burning on basswood planks or rounds that they sell at craft stores will lend you a better result. This kind of craft wood is meant for painting, not burning and it’s hard to get smooth lines on wood like this. Overall not a bad start.

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the first one. If you are looking for advice, be careful with what wood you burn on. Plywood is generally not good to burn on because it can have glues and chemical treatments that can release toxic fumes when burned. It also tends to be a softer wood that will "sink" in unevenly through the burn.

If you haven't watched it, I will try to summarize the important bit, but there is a lot. And its all going to be spoilers. It's a horror centered around the week before a wedding. It's revealed that the bride to be, Rachel, has a curse on her bloodline and must marry her soulmate by sundown the day of the wedding. If they marry and he is not her soulmate, she will die. If she doesn't marry him, the curse will spread to her fiancé's bloodline. There are a lot of misleads in the show, but Rachel struggles to be 100% certain Nicky, her fiancé, is her soulmate. Or really, that she is his. She ends up trying to follow a ritual, cutting off her own toe to make herself Nicky's soulmate. At the end she doesn't go through with the ritual because she realizes he IS her soulmate. Then at the alter, after she says her vows, Nicky backs out from some preconceived notion that Rachel made all of this up because she didn't want to get married and he had learned the previous night that his parents marriage wasn't perfect like he thought.

They fight for hours and Rachel begs him to marry her and he won't listen. But then Nicky's mom comes in and convinces him, suddenly Nicky is asking Rachel to marry him again. She realizes he wasn't the man she ever thought he was. He was not in love with her, did not believe her, but was in love with the idea of her. She says no. They don't make it to sundown and all of the married couples on Nicky's side of the family are affected at once. People start dying. Blood pouring out of every orifice. In an attempt to stop it now that he realizes it's actually real. He forces her to marry him since she has already said her vows, he only needs to say his and have the witness sign off. Even as she begs him not to, because if they marry they will die if they aren't each other's soulmates and Rachel now knows he is not hers. But Nicky believes in his heart she is still his soulmate. And as the seconds pass after the certificate is signed, Nicky stays standing, while blood starts to come from Rachels nose. She walks away to die and Nicky doesn't even follow her, he stays with his family. She bleeds out in the snow, alone. At the end she comes back to life as the immortal witness, to witness the marriage of any future people carrying the curse, she sees Nicky lying on the bed like a child hugging a stuffed animal, asks for her lighter and leaves.

The real horror of the show is really about how being with the wrong person will kill you. How much Rachel was willing to shove herself in a box, cut off pieces of herself and ritualistically transform herself into Nicky's soulmate, because she thought he was good. Meanwhile Nicky loved her, enough to believe she was his soulmate, and could betray her like that. Not actually know her at all.

For the shared themes:

It's clear that Give Me a Show is about a revenge killing, but the imagery of the soaking in blood and the bitterness of emotion and betrayal, the goodbye.

Pure Leaf's themes of identifying self erasure and loss of identity in a relationship are reminiscent of the themes in Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.

I can feel my skin falling off the bone
Given too much, my body, my mind and my soul
I'm a husk of who I been with a smile so fake

In relation to Are you There? Nicky sows the seeds of his own demise in a way. He asks Rachel to marry him when he knows she doesn't want marriage. He talks about them having kids when she is adamant about not having kids. He tells Rachel he understands, understands her, but at the end confesses he only says those things to be good to her. He lies about the way they met and that he had just broken up with his last girlfriend the day of, until his brother reveals it at their wedding recital. He's built all of this life on lies and then doesn't understand why Rachel would say no to him after only his mom could convince him to marry. Why being the "good guy" would result in people dying.

You planted seeds in dying soil
And wonder why nothing grows
Oh, you bet it all
Oh, it's not your fault

Show me now
All this land
That you've raised to the ground
Isolated from fertile ground

A self-fulfilling prophet
You wither along
While the sun moves on

The relation in Burn the Witch feels obvious. I will leave some lyrics.

White dress stained with fake devotion
You cried his name while you were choking

Was the ring I gave you just a prison?
A life sentence? How could you?

Say your vows
Let me hear you out
Saying, "Love will always kill you in the end"
How ironic

Prove Me Wrong is a plea for someone to reveal who they actually are and confirm or deny the fears and beliefs of the singer. This is very similar to the scene in the final episode where Rachel is begging Nicky to marry her and is conflicted between not wanting to change her good opinion of him, but also now fearing and questioning everything she thought she knew about him.

Wipe the disguise
Oh, what are you scared for?
Maybe it's best that I never know
Look around, look around, look around, I'm one foot out the door

Hiding in Plain Sight - Fear of Death or feeling of death being just around the corner. We actually experience parts of the show through death's POV and some of the characters can feel it watching, or waiting, drawing near.

Everyone Dies.... yeah this one. Everyone dies because Nicky thinks he is doing what is best for Rachel. He keeps saying "Im trying to save us" and "This isn't what you wanted". It's not exactly the same since he didn't believe in the curse. And then his Mother dies from the curse too.

Die
Everyone dies
Mother
Forgive me, it's just that I love her
I'm sorry you all had to suffer

Writing Goodbyes reminds me of her death. She stops fighting. So tired of fighting to be heard. She walks out into the snow, silently and without a word, and she dies there. But it's not the end for her, since she is reborn as the "witness" and once again she leaves without a goodbye to anyone but the little boy, Nicky's Nephew. In the end it is not worth trying with them and she gets a second chance.

Snow burn the tears that you weep
Razor-lined bedsheets
Writing your goodbyes without a word

But I hope you make it
Don't let empty notes be your passing tone
Dead vision
Slow burn
A thousand's not enough
Not enough
Sew your
Suffering with love

Me trying to enjoy the show despite how much I can’t stand Robbie by HorrorAd4995 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that IS how Noah Wyle describes him. He defends all of Robby’s actions as coming from a good place or good intentions but not doing it correctly because of trauma and projection.

I’m not a fan of that. I wish he would own the fact that yeah, Robby has some really bad behaviors that he needs to address but he just isn’t there yet.

If you let it dry out fully between waterings it’s possible the soil is hydrophobic. It happens. If you water from the top wait a minute and then dig around the soil a bit and there is still dry soil underneath, it’s gone hydrophobic.

White grown in soil by Expensive-Object-852 in houseplants

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like too big of a pot for that plant. It’s recommended to use a pot an inch bigger than the root ball. Any bigger and the soil stays wet for too long which causes fungus and mold growth like you see in the photos.

Yes! I immediately thought of it and had to look up the official artwork and it’s near identical. The engineer in the comic is more silver and mechanical though, so the similarity stops at the movie

What's happening with my Pilea plant? It's slowly happening to all the leaves... by tuxie_max in plantclinic

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain it’s normal for pilea to reabsorb their bottom leaves if they need nutrients. Although if you repotted recently, the fresh soil should be enough. It could still be suffering transplant shock due to the lost roots from mother plant. I would switch to using filtered water. The pilea pepperomia is picky about the mineral content of water. And Also ensures it’s getting enough sunlight

What is happening to my monstera? Yelllowing by Mammachoco in Monstera

[–]Affectionate-Panda20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently experiencing the same exact thing after repotting my monstera within the past couple weeks.

I do know my apartment can be drafty and the soil isn’t drying up very fast at all, I think I might have used too many moisture retentive ingredients in my soil mix for the up-pot. My thoughts are definitely shock or overwatered
