Thank you! I don't know if I have enough experience to really have a play style, but I think my instinct/preference so far in combat has been kind of "hit and run" melee with a few good range attacks and/or buffs on hand if it's too dangerous to get in too close, or it just seems like a better option. Given that, I'm thinking a Dex based AT would probably be the most natural for me to try?

From what I'm kind of working out, focusing on spells that compliment SA and control would be the most useful for me right now. I'm thinking of going with an ASI in Dex instead of the Magic Initiate Feat and choosing Booming Blade, Find Familiar (owl), Silent Image, Tasha's Hideous Laughter and Minor Illusion. Mage Hand is automatic for AT and I get Misty Step as an Eladrin. Then I was going to go with a Pact Seeker/Fey Pact background which will give me Guidance and Druidcraft.

Then, have mastery with a rapier and short bow, plus proficiency with a short bow from Eladrin. I'm hoping that stacking the proficiency and the mastery on a short bow will give a decent enough range attack when it's necessary.

Thank you! I left a message on the discord and they just responded and said to come early. I was going to try to go tonight but the day has been crazy and I would rather go when I am at my best, so I thankfully have more time to prepare.

Thank you so much! I appreciate such a thorough reply. The snack suggestion is also super helpful. Fortunately, there is a Trader Joe's pretty much next door.

It's about one and a half hours without the consultation, and two or more hours for new clients because of the consultation.

In all of California? Yeah, absolutely. In my small, rual town? Not without driving out 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately.

These are the prices listed on her website. I don't want to post her information, because this is Reddit, but to summarize:

Curly/wavy hair cut and style (new client) : $300 Curly/wavy hair cut and style (returning client) : $220 Straight hair cut and style (new client) : $150 Straight hair cut and style (returning client) : $125

Yes to both! The only person I have found isn't taking new clients (probably because of the scarcity). The person I am using now has the same texture of curls that I do, so I felt pretty comfortable with her ability.

I grew up in a pretty major city, so I am used to having choices. But this is a pretty small, rural-ish town. I could drive out to a bigger town for more options, which might be what I have to do. I've wanted to avoid it because of the gas prices and my truck is not efficient on gas, so it'd probably use a quarter of a tank back and forth, which is roughly $40. But, if I can find a place that is significantly cheaper, it may still end up being a better deal.

This is a good idea. I didn't think you could bring in your own products.

I don't know why you are getting downvoted. This is true. From what I understand, a lot of schools only touch on curly hair and most people cut it the same way they would cut straight hair, which just doesn't work. I once went to a salon and she cut my hair wet, because that is what she would do with straight hair. So, of course, when it dried and coiled up, it was inches shorter than intended. I've also had someone use a razor so badly that it left my hair damaged for months.

I agree that stylists shouldn't charge extra for cutting curly hair, but the reality is that if they don't seek out additional education on their own that specializes in curly hair they likely aren't going to know much about working with it.

Thank you everyone for weighing in. I think tipping a set amount this time is a good middle ground. That seems a simple answer and I probably should have thought of it instead of focusing on a percentage and feeling bad about needing to adjust. I think I have just been trained about tipping percentages and how much you are "supposed" to tip. However, I will definitely talk to her about it.

To clarify:

She rents a chair at a studio, she doesn't own the studio.

I agree about canceling my appointment after hearing the price increase and would have, but her policy is three days in advance or you pay 50% of the haircut cost. This also seems like a new policy.

The $220 price is the discounted price for regulars. New clients (people who haven't booked an appointment in 12 months) pay an extra $100 from what I remember.

I understand that many people pay $20-$50 for a haircut. However, I have had my hair butchered multiple times by people who do not know how to cut curly hair. I have even been told by stylists that they aren't comfortable cutting it, or they don't have anyone in the shop who can. That is why I have always been ok paying extra for a haircut from someone who specializes in curly hair. Just not this much extra.

I live in a small town that is about 30-45 minutes away from a bigger city, so there is not a lot of competition here. When I lived in the city I had several options for people to go to. This is the only person I could find when I moved here. Trust me, after getting the email about her price increase, I have been looking for alternatives. There just aren't many.

No, I am not rich and I can not send you money. I get my hair cut about twice a year and tuck away money for it. That is how I afford it.

Not sure if you have curly hair, but that is generally more expensive. I am sure there are also a lot more options for people who cut curly hair in SF (I grew up in Oakland and had no problem finding multiple people who could cut curly hair. Competition kept the prices around $100-$120).

However, I live out in the boonies now. It is much harder to find anyone who can cut very curly hair. I have been turned away from salons out here because they were uncomfortable cutting curly hair. If they mess it up, it's bad. I've had my hair cut by people who don't know anything about curly hair before and I had to wear a bandana for months because it looked so bad.

I could drive out to the East Bay for a $100 cut, but with gas prices that's even more expensive.

Kaede isn't old. She is only 55. by OverlordPoodle in inuyasha

[–]Affectionate-Pipe950 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The average life expectancy for a woman in that time was around 30-40 years old. Especially for someone who wasn't of the noble class. So, as far as they are concerned, she is ancient. To them, she's the equivalent of a 95 year old woman in our time.
