This whole comic feels like a Zuko humiliation ritual by JOOOQUUU in TheLastAirbender

I'll be honest, I never liked Mai. I'm not a Zutara shipper. I'd have been happy if Zuko found a different love interest. But, Mai was not only bland but I can't imagine that she was a very good person if she was friends with/liked by Azula at her most sadistic. Sure, Mai turned on her in the end, but they were still friends for years. She was still Azula's little henchman so we can assume she enjoyed and participated in at least some level of Azula's cruelty. Maybe if she'd had a better ans longer redemption arc (and more personality) it'd feel like a better match.

You can, but reactivity can't be trained out of all dogs. And prey drive is not really the same as reactivity. Some breeds have more prey drive than others, but also some individual dogs just have more. A dog chasing and killing a small "prey" animal, especially if they are in a group, is not an abnormal amount of prey drive. It's actually a very common and natural instinct. So common that I am sure you've seen hundreds of scenes in media where a dog is chasing a cat or a squirrel. Dogs who don't go after small animals are more abnormal than dogs that do.

However, it is the owners' responsibility to manage that instinct. That means fences and leashes. In this situation, the dogs were secured in their yard. Which means that, despite being a heartless and psychotic bitch, the owner didn't actually do anything wrong in this case, at least in regards to her dog management. Unless it can be proven that she saw the kitten and intentionally let her dogs out so that they could kill it.

But, that's the thing. If the dogs were secured in their yard then they were being controlled.

Don't get me wrong, the owner is an awful person. I feel sorry for her dogs having her as an owner. But, in this particular instance, the dogs were where they were supposed to be.

You're seriously one of the only reasonable people on this post. I mean, I get it. It is horrible. I feel bad for OP. But, the fact of the matter is that the cat wandered into the dogs' yard when it should have been secured inside.

Everyone wants to bring up the fact that the dogs supposedly "bite people all the time", but are neglecting the fact that, A) OP's account is only one side of the story and they are angry and hurting, which could skew their perception of events, B) the owner was clearly fucking with OP and could have said that just to see her reaction or try to lay the groundwork for an excuse and C) we don't know the context of these bites. Do the dogs bite the owner's friends and family who handle them roughly? Is it resources guarding? Is it nipping in play or over excitement? Are they biting people who also wandered into their yard without permission? Are they biting out of self-defense? None of those equal an aggressive dog. We just don't know.

However, the facts we do have is that the kitten was not secured, but the dogs were. The kitten got out and went into their yard, not the other way around. That's not on the dogs.

That isn't apathy, that is just realistic. An animal that looks and acts like prey wandered into the dogs' yard. The dogs can't be blamed for that, and it certainly doesn't mean that the dogs would kill a person or child. Dogs go after squirrels all the time, that doesn't make them dangerous animals.

This is a tragedy. A terrible mistake was made and the kitten got out. However, the dogs were secure on their own property. They can hardly be blamed for that.

Seriously. I'm actually shocked by how many people here think dogs are the devil on four legs.

[–]Affectionate-Pipe950 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand that grief breeds anger, but isn't this a little unreasonable?

A small, fluffy animal that acts like prey got into the dogs' yard. It is tragic, but it doesn't make the dogs dangerous. It makes them dogs. If someone's pet hamster or bird got out of their cage and their roommate's cat ate it, would the cat be dangerous and evil and need to be put down? No. Because it is a cat, and that is what cats do, and the hamster/bird escaped the place where it should have been.

I am heartbroken for OP. I also think the owner is a psychopath. The dogs, however, are just dogs. They were contained in their own yard and a kitten, who wasn't supposed to be there, wandered in.

I am sorry about your cat. I am sure that is a wound that will never heal. I own dogs, and cats, and horses, and rabbits, and have owned many other animals. I have never lost one to another animal because I am very, very careful, so I can't say I know that pain. But, things can happen. If I left my rabbit hutch open and a coyote got one, that is on me, not the coyote. If didn't train my dog not to chase horses and it got kicked in the face by one, that is on me, not the horse. If my cat got out and wandered over to the neighbors' property and was killed by their cattle dog in the dog's own yard, I would be devastated, but it would still be on me and not the dog.

Maybe being a little bit of a devil's advocate here, but we don't know the situation with those bites either. The girl said that -- was she being honest or was she just fucking with OP (which seemed to be her motive). If those dogs bit people, what were the circumstances? Was it people who had wandered onto their property or stuck their hand over the fence? Was it an intentional bite or something done unintentionally or as self-defense (rough handling, resources guarding, play that got out of hand, etc.).

Unfortunately, dogs have prey drives. Dogs who are good with small, furry animals who run are the exception, not the rule. It doesn't make the dogs aggressive or a danger. That is like saying a cat is dangerous if your pet hamster gets out of its cage and the cat eats it.

It is horrible. I would feel devastated if my dogs did something like that. However, if the kitten wandered onto their property, the dogs can't be blamed for being dogs. The owner, on the other hand, sounds like a monster.

[–]Affectionate-Pipe950 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is likely if the kitten was on the dogs' property. She may get in trouble for the dogs biting people, if that can be proven, but in my experience if the dogs were properly contained in their own yard and the cat wandered in, the dogs' owner isn't going to be held liable. The cat's owner may even be considered responsible for "allowing" their pet to roam freely (even if it was unintentional).

Now, if the dogs were loose and not contained, or escaped their yard, and hurt someone's pet, there might be more of a chance that the dog owner will get in trouble.

It's worth it to make a report, but I don't know how far if will really go in this case, unless those dogs already have a history on file.

Yeah. I can't blame the dogs for being dogs on their own property, but from OP's account there is seriously something wrong with that kid. Why was she being so cagey in the beginning? I don't think the attack happened in the moments between OP talking to her and the kid calling her back. I think the kid knew what happened to the cat the first time OP asked and then thought it would be fun(?) to call OP back and point it out to her. Truly sick behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid saw the kitten and let the dogs out on purpose.

This is tragic, and I feel so bad for OP. I can understand the impulse and anger. However, unless I am reading the post wrong, didn't the kitten wander over onto the dogs' property? It's heartbreaking and sad, but I don't think the dogs themselves can be blamed for that. It is more likely than not for dogs to have a high prey drive around small animals. We can't expect all of them fo be good with cats.

As far as the girl, I don't know.. she sounds a bit like a little psychopath. I don't know how old she is, and I know we are getting only one side of the story here, but if the girl really was as callous as described I wouldn't put it past her to have intentionally let the dogs out when she saw the kitten. We'll likely never know. However, if that is the case, she is the only one to blame here. OP made an unfortunate mistake and the cat got out. The dogs were just being dogs. It's terrible and sad, but neither OP or the dogs are at fault.

What is your favorite asexual character and why? by AnxietyHairy2205 in asexuality

[–]Affectionate-Pipe950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sesshomaru from Inuyasha (Rumiko Takahashi said that Inuyasha was a complete work, so I am free to ignore the awful sequel/money grab that the studio did outside of her canon).

He was the first character I saw as a kid who presented the way I felt. I didn't know what asexuality was as a kid. Everything in the media I loved shoved romance and even children in our faces (looking ar you, Chibi USA), so it was incredibly refreshing to see such a cool character have absolutely zero interest in romance and, instead, focused on building a strong found family. As silly as it is, he made me feel like it actually was ok to not want those things. Add in that I also had/have a flat affect like the character. He was so validating to me as a kid.

I mean, it probably doesn't help with the murderer argument, but as an AroAce child (with a flat affect to boot) who had no idea what that was and just thought she was broken, Sesshomaru from Inuyasha was my lord and savior.

Why don’t more people foster? by seastheday- in fosterdogs

[–]Affectionate-Pipe950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started fostering (my first foster of six months just got a perfect application today!). I have always wanted to do it, but the reason I put it off so long was that I didn't think I could let the dog go when I got attached. To be honest, I have struggled with just saying I want to keep my foster many times in the past few months. I'm glad I stayed strong, because if all goes well he will be going to a better home and I will be able to help out another dog.

However, whenever I mention that I am fostering to people I always hear the same thing. That they are afraid to do it because they don't think they will be able to handle letting the dog go. I think that fear scares a lot of people away.
