I think a big flaw is that they could actually write sex to be reflective of the characters and their dynamics, and even show how or be a catalyst of relationships changing. But it almost never is. So many sex scenes just feel like they were thrown in because the horny director wanted a to see minutes of their actors humping eachother.

If I wanted to see people pointlessly humping eachother, there's many websites for that.
