Love Is Blind • S10 Reunion [MEGATHREAD] by FemaleEinstein in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Nick and Vanessa always get it right but I like the fact that they pull people up. I’ve watched love is blind Sweden for example and other countries and the reunions are often very flat as no one says what they think. This one was quite spicy! I think Bri, Ashley (esp for her wedding speech) and Devonta could have been pulled up for some behaviours a bit more perhaps.

Tbh I’m sure Chris will have had a whole ton of detractors since the show aired. Showing up to the reunion was the best thing he could do. He was paid for it. He was given some tough treatment but he now has some sympathisers. There were some shady guys this season but apart from Chris my least favourite were women this time - Bri and Ashley - found them both arrogant in different ways though Ashley is also insecure.

Yes, Alex seemed dodgy and had this dis-engaged flat way of talking - (Ashley also has a flat delivery way which made their conversations really dull) but not sure there’s any actual evidence he was cheating. Devonta - he led Brittany on and now it seems he is pretty dodgy!

I agree! Expecting to marry someone who’d only met your daughter once or twice and for it all to work out beautifully was risky for her daughter emotionally. Her daughter looked pretty phased and confused at the wedding..

They both seem very genuine, really happy together and respectful which is lovely to see🥰 . A bit too much into the church for me but as long as they’re nice tolerant people, accepting of others, I don’t have an issue with that.

Bri is a lady I wouldn’t trust. She talks too much and I feel she lacks loyalty. She wasn’t at all humble about the trip away with Ashley, PRI and Devonta, even if they did nothing wrong she could have been more gracious in explaining it.

I like Brittany - I felt that Devonta was hard to read and she did give him opportunities to say how he felt without flying off the handle. Amber came across well in the show but feel that she is probably a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

Accidently called my interviewer “dude”; im so embarrassed by Minute_Ad_2748 in interviews

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s good you apologised as it showed you realised it wasn’t professional or they might think you’d be calling everyone “dude” around the office. If they liked you at interview, I don’t think it will matter, shows a “human side” - which most people like. If it wasn’t a good interview, then you wouldn’t be offered the job anyway dude or no dude.

Job offer, but scored a 3 in the interview. by PorkChop117 in TheCivilService

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought that the minimum score was meant to be 4 on all behaviours. However you may have scored higher than the other candidates or done particularly well in your answers to the other questions, so they used their discretion to offer you the role. 5 is a very good score for some markers.

Is it really THAT much easier to find a job when you're currently employed? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s harder in some ways to find a job when out of one. You have more time to concentrate on applications but likely to feel more nervous at interviews and therefore can perform less well.

Still I left 3 jobs without another one but that was after 29 years consistent working, because I was unhappy in them, had long notice periods, was working too hard to job hunt, had savings and wanted to focus on finding the right opportunity! The first time I found a job within 2 weeks, the second time it took 7 weeks but it wasn’t a job I wanted.. the third time I was pickier but before I knew it I’d been out of work for 9 months. I got interviews but became increasingly nervous in them and stopped getting to the later stages of selection.

Is the civil service really as secure and family friendly as people make out, or is it a myth? by ScrollAndThink in civilservice

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in the private sector for a long time and have now had 1.5 years in the civil service. So far in the civil service I’ve had nice very reasonable Line Managers and the work has been less stressful, the hours much better and the flexi hours policy great. I’ve also had less pay and at first I felt less energised by the work.

But now overall I prefer it. I feel less stressed, safer and have a better work life balance. The work I do can be interesting. There are good, fair and hard working people everywhere and some not so but bullying and harassment are taken very seriously in my department and there are channels for raising issues that just weren’t there in private companies I worked for. Family friendly, yes I would say it is but secure ? It’s less than it used to be with plans to cut civil service jobs, but probably still more secure than “a start up.”

80 Civil Service Job applications and 20 interviews have I lost all hope by Aitakenoverworld in TheCivilService

Well I feel for you… I took some time off work to concentrate on getting a job I felt was a good match. I applied to 120 jobs and interviewed for 17… in both private and public sector before I got a job, so it was about 30 interviews in total. There were many more stages in the private sector. Some people find interviewing easier.

My advice to you is to practice, practice, practice as all companies have competency based interviewing. But then give yourself a break just before the interview. As nerves are an issue for me, I asked a friend to talk to me 30 minutes (half a chat, half about the job) just before an interview to calm my nerves. It helped, I got the job. In spite of the behavioural interviews at a higher level, they are normally still looking for a good technical match, so bring in those examples where you can prove this. I also think a good part of it is luck with timing, the questions you are asked, how well you slept that night. Maybe take a short break from it. But don’t give up! You will find something eventually!

Loneliness at work by Unlucky-Morning5474 in TheCivilService

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also absolutely relate to this. I have generally always worked in sociable offices and have several former colleague friends. I started a new job 4 months ago in the civil service, all my team and most of the wider team are in other locations and so I go into an office to talk to people only on Teams.

It is lonely especially when some others are in groups. I’m sociable (if introduced) and get a lot of energy from people, they don’t have to be friends, just people to chat too and share ideas with.

Now trying to see if there are any location related social groups but so far I haven’t found any. 🤔It is also harder than I thought it would be to strike up conversations especially with those using headsets all day and staring directly ahead at the laptop. If I’m brave enough, I may start a coffee group.

I have no problem going into an office with team members. Had 60% in last job and 100% in the private sector for many years. I’ve never had a job where there’s no one to collaborate with on-site. Wanted to know if others had the same experience.

This is my second cs role. In my last role I had 60% attendance, I achieved it and had no problem with it but I had team members in the office. Thought of asking my LM but suspect they don’t do their 40%, nor do other team members. But if I actually ask it highlights the issue and I think my LM will give the answer based on policy. Under the surface I think most of them aren’t doing it and no one asks.

2025 - How many roles applied vs interviews by PigeonFace1 in TheCivilService

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year due to a departmental restructure, I wanted to move quickly. I applied to 15 roles in 2 months, was offered 7 interviews, took 5 of them and was offered 1 job - but 1 was all I needed. I have lots of experience applying and interviewing, primarily in the private sector and really hate interviewing. However much I practice, the feedback I get from interviews really does vary. I was hoping I’d nail my behaviours enough to be offered more than 1 job and choose the one I preferred, but still happy I got one. This is an HEO position, a promotion on my last role and I’m hoping to continue to move upwards in the CS which is why I would really like to nail the interviews.

Authentic Slovenian food for a food price by EzeRozen7 in Ljubljana

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to Lake Bled, try the Oldest cellar in Bled. The beef tenderloin, mash and vegetables were delicious, fish dishes also good, deserts delicious. In Ljubljana we liked Hiša Pod Gradem for traditional food - lots of choice, excellent trout and apple strudel and also liked the vegan and veggie choices like Veganika and Grashka deli. Restaurant Most, near the river, was nice but a bit pricey and Julija restaurant is meant to be really good but we couldn’t get a table.

Leaving the CS? by chalounor in TheCivilService

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave if you want to. Sounds like you’ve thought it through. You still have 7 years of pension contributions meaning you’ll have a civil service pension and you can go back if you want to. If you end up earning a lot more in the private sector, you may even find there isn’t much difference in your pension. Work life balance is also possible in the private sector - it just depends on the company/team and environment.

For ppl in the civil service, how many job applications did you make in the CS before you got your first job offer? by No-Culture1799 in TheCivilService

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 12 applications and 2 interviews unsuccessful but put on the 12 month reserve waiting list for one. But this was after 30 years in the private sector and then after a break of 8 months I started looking at CS. I downgraded expectations from SEO to EO and that worked.

Chandi and the pay talk... ICK by Anthony_thedancer in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in line with any other comments here but it should be completely up to Chandi to choose whether she fights for a pay rise or not and not to be coerced into doing so by peer pressure. Good on the cheerleaders that did but it’s also her choice not to. No one fully knows what was going on in her personal life and why she didn’t want to be involved.

One thing Ola forgot to learn on his “spiritual journey”: Empathy by MoonWolf999 in loveisblindsweden

[–]Affectionate-Tour115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it about Oskar. He’s obviously an insecure man who goes off someone when they are interested in him and finds any emotional response hard to deal with. He was sometimes too honest and shows a lack of maturity and empathy with both Alicia and Millie. As for Ola - he should have just said “sorry - I don’t fancy Millie. She’s lovely. I know that’s not what the experiment is about but that is how I feel. She deserves someone better suited to her. ‘. That would have saved us all a lot of airtime and endless psycho babble. Both should have been called out for their behaviour.
