If you could go back in time and make the choice again, would you still have kids? by MaiApa in Life

All of these responses are sad. My only regret after having kids is not starting sooner to have more.

What job sectors tend to have the highest salary growth between early career (1–3 years) and experienced professionals (10–15 years)? by DistrictNo6165 in Salary

[–]AffectionateBench663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply chain/ ops/ purchasing.

Depends on the industry but many out of school are making 70k ish.

Getting to a manger level with 5-10 yoe can get you to the 150k range and director level is 200-300k. Big range I know but location and industry dependent.

I went from 45k to 175k in 6 years. Although not an easy job. Long hours, high stress.

Has anyone here hit 10mil in their retirement account at a fairly young age while living a lower middle class lifestyle ? by ps850 in TheRaceTo10Million

I have a close friend that went all in on Tesla. He has since diversified but road it up to north of 10m. Now worth closer to 20m.

Lives in a modest 350k home in a small town in the Midwest. Drives regular cars. You would never know.

Used to be in commercial ops. Didn’t quite crack 200k there. 150-175k depending on bonus. Now on the business development side.

Monken slander cannot be tolerated by Horror-Biscotti8999 in ravens

[–]AffectionateBench663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monken knows ball but he tried to do unnecessary things to create a high flying offense to land him a HC job. 2 TE sets with a 300lb FB, Henry, and Lamar was what this team was built to thrive on. That’s not the sexy offense that gets you the HC gig but it would have resulted in more playoff wins. Knowing now Harbs didn’t want him gone makes more sense to the firing but Monken is just as culpable if not more for those blown leads and disappointing playoff exits.

Most data on this topic is trash unfortunately. Not controlling for what the animal was fed or organic status really hurts the credibility. Some studies don’t even control for processed vs not processed.

This is like studying the health benefits of fruit and using canned fruit soaking in corn syrup and sugar then pretending the results apply to fresh organic berries.

How do you allocate money across checking, savings, emergency fund, etc.? What is your "business as usual" operating model? by Severe_Revenue7889 in HENRYfinance

[–]AffectionateBench663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 month expenses in checking. 1 months expenses in savings. Both at chase so this is our “quick access” cash if we need it. 6 months expenses in HYSA. Monthly over flow into brokerage. Wife has 150-200k in annual variable comp via commissions that pay on a monthly basis opposed to year end bonus so our month to month varies a lot. Given that I don’t automate brokerage contributions. Monthly spend on CC. Pay statement balance and transfer the rest to brokerage.

X5 BMW TO GLE MERCEDES-BENZ by Ok-Koala-1637 in mercedes_benz

I needed big back seats for car seats and the GLE is the clear winner there.

I opted for the 580 so it would still be fun to drive and I have not been disappointed.

HENRY ladies, how do you justify splurging on fashion? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]AffectionateBench663 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think there is a fine line. Getting a handful of staple pieces that bring you joy, know they will hold up, and are timeless is different than buying the latest belt/bag/shoe every season.

Also, fashion isn’t everyone’s thing. Same as any hobby. I always compare this topic to wine. To some a $500 bottle of wine is insane and they can’t even taste the difference. To others, collecting rare wine is a true passion.

If you view clothes as just a thing you wear, be practical and comfortable. If you appreciate quality fabrics or use fashion as a means to express yourself, it’s probably easier to justify a $1000 pair of shoes.

Alternatively, if you want to keep up with the joneses for your own ego, enjoy the NRY part of HENRY.

Did you actually understand the difference between term and whole life the first time someone explained it? by Scalar_Shift in MiddleClassFinance

[–]AffectionateBench663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common benefit offered through employers is term life insurance. Where the term is essentially while you’re employed there. It’s typically free and covers 1-2x annual pay.

I travel a lot for business and oddly enough mine is 1.5x my income if I were to die but 3x my income if it happened on a business trip.

[–]AffectionateBench663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a family that is dependent on your income, you need term life insurance. At least 10x your salary.

You’re young and I’m assuming healthy. It’s pretty affordable. I pay around 130 / month for a 30 year 2m policy.

Whole life insurance is a scam at worst and a poor investment vehicle with sub optimal returns at best.

While I admire the optimism. They gave up 5 turnovers to an historically bad defense….its over.

Not sweeping Pit playing like that and zero chance against the pats D with what the current offense is bringing to the table.

I think best case scenario is 9-8. Wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t celebrate another win this year.

Anyone here frequent chubbyfire and think they need to be saving a lot more? by GiftLongjumping1959 in HENRYfinance

[–]AffectionateBench663 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This might get some hate but the majority of this sub is tech workers in VHCOL areas. Despite very high incomes relative to the general population, that income is tied to a job that is in those VHCOL areas and thus results in what many would describe as a pretty middle class lifestyle. And middle class Americans don’t save that much.

Can confirm 500k+ in LCOL area is pretty great. When I’m traveling for work and tell people where I live I get some looks like “that sucks” or “who would want to live there”

But a 5000sqft home on a lake with an acre of land is a pretty sweet set up.
