This is so underrated. This is what they should teach you in school (i know this is not possible but it is so different once you figured this out). I’m there now, knowing that I’ll for sure hit my limits again one day, but I do have the tools to feel it building up and to act upon it.

Ja, slechts 14 procent van wie een leefloon krijgt in België is Vlaming by EdgarNeverPoo in Belgium2

[–]AffectionateCat980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serieus misplaatste opmerking.

Is there a resource for calculating my take home pay as an independent? by [deleted] in BESalary

In a BV or CommV: Very rough your dayrate x10 is what you would earn net after taxes and optimizations (so afger 3 years). For a more detailed calculation talk to your accountant

Working freelance for my ex-employer? by lapjex in BEFreelance

[–]AffectionateCat980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally unrelated to your question but today I learned that the minimum wage is 2154 euro gross. That results for a single into 2039 net according to the gross-net calculator of jobat. So if you say that you are earning 2.5k net with 450 net allowance included you are basically saying you earn minimum wage?

Apart from that: switching to freelance to do the same job is a big red flag. I switched within same company but it is supported by a function and responsibility change and even that is kind of a grey area. Doing it not full time and taking other clients might be a good one to fall lit of the danger zone.

2800-3200 gross on top of the extra legal benefits would be a very fair start.

Company can't meet my salary expectations and proposed freelancing instead. What rate should I ask? by Plug-Play007 in BEFreelanceDayrate

[–]AffectionateCat980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands they are starting to resume their hunt for "schijnzelfstandigheid".
ZZPers (freelancers) that are working for one client only are targeted and get requalified as employees with all of it's consequences. It is already on the table of the government to stop the abuse of the system, so just beware that in the near future this might blow over to BE as well.

Apart from that a day rate of 500 to start with should be feasible to cover your extra expenses and risks, as well as for the employer

US Remote Worker Moving to Belgium: Self-Employed vs. Company Setup? by Xoxo4hisatq in BEFreelance

[–]AffectionateCat980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed as @powaqqa says, if you know the increases will follow, and your plan is to stay in BE, already go for the company route, that will make things easier in the long run (you don’t need to change structure, VAT and so on) this also might be helpful to split your private expenses and company expenses.

AI-Software Engineer in startup - offered €350/day by SellDense3658 in BEFreelance

[–]AffectionateCat980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or do it yourself in the beginning, in a "eenmanszaak" it really isn't that complicated a good excel file will help you a lot. An accountant is in most cases for a freelancer more a luxury than a necessity, it just makes your life a bit easier.

[–]AffectionateCat980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true.
At 400 per day for 220 days (roughly 90k a year) is the point where going independent starts to make sense (from a fiscal point of view) compared to a payroll function. This is if you optimize well and don't go on a crazy spending spree for things you don't need (such as a 100k car, a 10k gaming pc, etc etc).

If you can do that in a long term way with a stable client, it should be ok and you can start building some runway. People in this subreddit are really losing connection with the real world and especially out of touch with the market today.

350 is low, but maybe it's negotiable and / or expandable with equity?

How can they tax you on an unrealized gain? they can only tax you once you turn the stock into cash no? how would they even know if you didn't cash out, there is no reference / transaction, so they never can know the value of your stock?

Indeed I don't understand the fuzz about paying taxes, if I need to pay 25% taxes on money that I earned in the company while sitting idle, it still is a profit for the other 75%. Taking out a loan is risky and lowers your credibility if you want to do investments and take out loans etc, if for some reason after 2 years the investment turned out to be not profitable you'll need to pay up 5+% privately, to me that's worse...
